A Penny For Your Thoughts….A Column of Complaints by FarmDecorMaster
Howdy Farmers!
I know that a lot of you might not know who I am, and there would be good reason for that. In December 2009 I took a hiatus from the beloved Farmville and FarmVille Freak, and I was able to resist my addiction for over two years. A few weeks ago however, while sitting around bored at work, it called out to me. I thought to myself “Hey, why not. I’ll just see what has changed, and see who is still around. I will not get addicted again.” Right?? Wrong! I was blown away by the changes, everything was different. After about 50 pop-ups telling me the things I missed, I became curious. I started indulging myself, and fighting to catch back up to the curve. Now after a month or so after my return I am ready to write again.
I thought for a while about what I would write about. I could no longer write about things that I was good at in Farmville, because obviously, I am still way behind. So I decided I would write my complaints, at least for now, on the changes that Zynga made to the game since the I last played. My main complaint is….Yep, Farm Coins!
I chose the title, because spending coins on my thoughts, would probably be worth more than the disappointing things there are to choose to spend coins on in the FarmVille Market. If anyone can remember the Villa, it was the desire of almost any player. At a whopping 1 million coins, it was very far out of reach for even the most addicted players. Everyone would pinch every Farm Coin they had, meticulously choosing crops with the most yield to eventually reach that goal of 1 million coins.
Two years later, and a million coins is like pocket change. I just came back, and getting to 10 million coins took me only a couple weeks. I browsed through the market, looking for things to spend my coins on, and to my surprise there was nothing. I suppose I could have bought 10 Villas and took up prime real estate on my farm-worthless. I am sure the majority of players have their farms set up to maximize return, avoiding the uses of big buildings which have no purpose, or a myriad of random decorations from the many “events” FarmVille has had. The funniest part I found, was that Zynga put animals for a ridiculous price, presumably to give people something to spend coins on for a return. Why I would want a bunch of pricy Pheasants on my farm is beyond me other than using them for their obvious XP yield.
In my opinion, over the course of the last two years, they have consistently lowered the amount of items purchasable with coins, and replaced them with Farm Cash items. It was sneaky enough where people would take a while to catch on, or get addicted enough to fork out the cash for the “must have” animals they release. With a new “theme” every other week, that is a lot of money to be shelled out and I’m pretty sure Zynga is making there monies worth. Enough so that it’s become common to not get any special Limited Edition items without spending your actual money. The fun is going to eventually be sucked from the game, and it will become more of a chore than it already is.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Farmville. I look forward just as much as anyone to logging on and checking my farm. The ideas that Zynga incorporates are quite ingenious (for the most part) to think that this game is still going, is impressive enough in itself. My biggest complaint is the worthlessness of a currency. They could remove the coins from the game, and besides the inability to purchase seeds, it would hardly affect anyone at all.
I look forward to writing again soon, Happy Farming everyone!
What do you think? Are Farm Coins worthless? Would you like to see more items be available with Farm Coins?
Very late last night emails started seeping in about a possible FarmVille expansion similar to the English Countryside except this time being a “farm by the sea”.
Several FarmVille Freaks, such as FarmVille Freak Wende, were invited to take a survey about FarmVille while they were playing FarmVille. Some of the Zynga survey questions hinted to this new possible expansion and referred to the farm by the sea as “Lighthouse Cove”.
Some of the questions asked what types of items you’d be interested in harvesting (lobsters, clams, etc.) in this new farm near the sea and if you would be willing to pay Farm Cash for early access to this new destination farm via an “express ticket” to travel there by boat.
As you know the English Countryside is wrapping up and its storyline and quests are set to end on August 31st 2011. However, the farm is always yours to keep. This would be the perfect timing for a new destination farm and we are curious to see what Zynga has in the works for FarmVille.
Very interesting, indeed!
Please note, this information is user-submitted and survey related. Zynga has not confirmed this information so at this point we can only speculate. Stay tuned.
What says you FarmVille Freaks? Would you like a farm by the sea? What ideas do you have about this possible destination farm expansion?
With the recent release of the functional FarmVille Craftshop, many farmers were left feeling somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed.
Yes, we had all hoped to craft useful things for our farms that are needed to keep our farms running smoothly, but no one expected the recipes would require so many Bushels, take 24 hours to make, and be limited to one recipe per day.
While the concept initially sounded good, taking 24 hours to craft a nail seems sort of ridiculous doesn’t it? We definitely think that there is room for improvement and we want to hear what FarmVille Freaks have to say!
What would you do to make the Craftshop better? How would you make it more useful and worth the effort?
With Sunday night’s FarmVille updates, four new trees entered the FarmVille Market. Many farmers were surprised to see that the Giant Gorse Tree (a Level 1 Tree) was listed for 10 Farm Cash, when it should have been 5 Farm Cash.
This was an unintentional error and the price of the tree was incorrectly listed. Since then, the price of the tree has dropped and is now 5 Farm Cash. However, if you purchased the tree for 10 Farm Cash when it was incorrectly listed, you can get a refund by contacting Zynga Customer Support.
From FarmVille Freak Moderator Lexilicious via the official FarmVille Forums:
“Incorrect price is listed for the giant Gorse Tree
Last Update: 6/6
Description:
The price for the giant Gorse Tree is listed as 10 Farm Cash. The price should be 5 FC.
Status:
This issue is currently under investigation by the FarmVille Team. We will be compensating users who purchased the tree for the incorrect amount in the near future. ” (Source: FarmVille Forum)
Did you think that something was fishy about the price of this tree?
There have been some pestering problems on the farm lately. While some farmers are currently experiencing difficulty harvesting their crops by being unable to harvest, there are some other lingering problems that Zynga is working on or has already addressed so that farmers can get back to work on their farms. Zynga Customer Support has reported these issues below as either addressed or still investigating.
FarmVille Bugs 6.1.2011
The following issues have been addressed:
Cornflower and Aster Co-op Jobs for Quest Credit: We removed these tasks from the quests so you should be able to progress to the next quest.
Harvesting Chicken Coop Quest Credit: Issue was fixed on 5/2/11.
Sheep Breeding: We have received reports from players indicating that an unusually high amount of White Sheep are being produced when breeding. As white is a color, it is possible to produce white sheep when the feature is operating normally. Additionally, please note that pattern inheritance comes from the father and the offspring have a chance of inheriting the patterns. We are investigating player reports to determine if more white sheep are being produced than anticipated. Please know that this process is not an easy one and will take time for us to address.
Pig Pattern/Color Inheritance: Similar to Sheep Breeding, players have reported receiving a high number of Plain, Pink Pigs. The feature is currently working as intended and Plain Pigs are a possible result from Pig Breeding. Pig Pattern inheritance is also a chance inheritance from the father. NOTE: If you are breeding color changing Pigs, the offspring will be plain pigs as we have not released this pattern in the Market yet.
Loading: Some players were unable to load their farm on 5/25/11. We have fixed the root cause of that loading issue. If you are still having issues, please clear your cache as well.
Love Potions: We understand that some players feel that they have wasted potions on breeding as the result is not what they expected. We have shared this feedback with the FarmVille studio. If you are accepting love potions, please make sure you have room in your Gift Box. The Gift Box limit is 500.
Royal Wedding Tent issues: We apologize for any troubles experienced with this feature. The Friend invite list not populating has been fixed.
Friends list not populating when sending free gifts: Issue appeared to mainly affect Internet Explorer 9 users and has been resolved.
Sheep Pen locked on Home Farms: Issue has been fixed.
Playing both Home and English Farms: Players can grow crops on both farms simultaneously. Option is provided when you travel from one farm to another
These issues are still under investigation:
Pig Breeding: Unable to breed Pigs or Limited Edition Pigs, like Pumpkin Pig, on English farms.
Gift Box: Lambs are locked in the Gift Box.
Bushels: Bushels received from harvesting are not appearing in Bushel Inventory.
Out of Sync Issues: These issues are ongoing and may have different root causes, which we are investigating.
Have you experienced any of these problems on your farm?
FarmVille issued a statement a few minutes ago on the official FarmVille Blog addressing “illegal” Sheep and Pig breeding.
If you currently have “illegal” Sheep or Pigs obtained or “adopted” from your Facebook News Feed (or from a neighbor) such as Flashers, which have not yet been released into the FarmVille Market, these animals will no longer breed to produce the same type offspring. For now, this means that specific patterns such as Star and Flasher Sheep will no longer produce Star or Flasher offspring. However, if and when illegal breeds are actually officially released in FarmVille, then these animals will be able to breed again.
The types of patterned Sheep and Pigs that are allowed include the following:
Sheep: Plain, Striped, and Spotted
Pigs: Plain and Spotted
Please understand that most of your neighbors who have these “illegal” animals on their farms did not obtain them through hacks nor or they cheating. There is no need to start a FarmVille witch hunt! The spreading of these unreleased animals was so rampant due to legitimate breeding, sharing, and adopting.
Since so many farmers have these “illegal” animals on their farms in which they obtained through legitimate methods, they will be able to keep them and will not be punished. What FarmVille is doing is trying to prevent continued breeding of animals that they did not intentionally release. They are in the process of patching the original methods (hacks) of how these animals were obtained before they were then bred and shared.
From FarmVille:
“Howdy farmers!
We wanted to give an update to everyone regarding certain kinds of disallowed sheep that have been available in FarmVille as well as a similar issue that appeared with pigs this past weekend. Certain types of sheep and pig colors/patterns not yet released have been improperly distributed in FarmVille; we are currently going through the process of making sure this practice stops.
The steps that we have taken are:
The methods by which players were able to breed unreleased sheep and pig colors and patterns have been closed.
Players who bred sheep and pigs using illicit methods have had their animals revert to their original base colors and no patterns.
Pigs and sheep acquired from feed posts (but at some point were generated using illicit methods) will get to retain their unusual colors and patterns. However, attempts to breed with these pigs or sheep will result in default colors and no additional pattern inheritance. Should we release these additional colors or patterns legitimately then players will be able to breed that animal in the appropriate, correct manner. This is not an implication that you or your neighbors have done something wrong. This is a breeding restriction of colors and patterns that as of yet have not intended to be released.
So what’s currently allowed to breed and what’s not?
Most current colors are allowed but the “flashing” colors are definitely not.
Currently Allowed Sheep Patterns: Plain, Spotted, Striped
Currently Allowed Pig Patterns: Plain, Spotted
Again, the intention is to stop the distribution of colors and patterns that are not currently intended but not to punish our players who have acquired these animals legitimately. When we do release these colors or patterns, you’ll be able to breed with them just as intended.
The FarmVille English Countryside has been live for a few days and available to almost everyone. Since we’re all having fun in England, enjoying the new features, and finally experiencing it for ourselves, FarmVille Freak is curious to know what you think! Where do you stand when in comes to English farming?
First, let’s recap a few key notes, both good and bad, about the FarmVille English Countryside.
Available to farmers Level 20 and above.
Brand new farm in the English Countryside acting as a second farm with a complete fresh start.
Exclusive new English Countryside crops with Crop Mastery.
Exclusive Sheep Breeding with endless offspring.
New Crafting Building, the Pub, offers new recipes and new Crafting Mastery.
You will need to re-build (or purchase) new buildings with purpose including storage, animal housing, and vehicles.
English Countryside is quest driven.
Quests are optional and offer rewards such as XP, Farm Coins, and even some Farm Cash! There’s also other rewards such as free animals and buildings with purpose like the Pub.
There is a Pause feature that means you can only work on one farm at a time. If you are active in the English Countryside, your original home farm will be paused and visa versa.
Storage is not transferrable from one farm to the other.
Items you buy in the FarmVille Market will only exist on the farm you place them on.
Gift Box offers a small loophole to get “existing items” already in your box on your English farm. Notice that some items from Gift Box are exclusive to home farm.
Collections are exclusive to your home farm and do not work in the EC.
Your monetary accumulation or bank including Farm Cash and Farm Coins is the same for both farms, meaning you have one bank account for both farms.
Fuel Supply is the same for both farms.
We have to give props to Zynga, from a technical perspective the transition to the English Countryside has been fairly smooth. Of course there are a some players experiencing issues, but that’s understandable considering the EC is such a huge feature.
Even though grass may be greener on the other side of the fence with lures of richer soil and more XP, many FarmVille Freaks reluctantly remain “on the fence” about the English Countryside because of a few issues. A handful of diehard players refuse to travel to England or have given up farming there because of the abandonment of their home farms caused by the pause feature.
Pause Feature
By far, the biggest complaint is the Pause feature. Why’s that? Because as dedicated farmers we want it all. We have a ravenous appetite for more land and now that Zynga has given us more land with a new farm, our precious original farms that we’ve labored and toiled over aren’t “working” and thriving as we’d like them to when we’re away in the English Countryside.
What are your thoughts, FarmVille Freaks? What do you love about the English Countryside? What do you hate? What would you change? Take our polls below to leave your feedback.
Ever since traveling to the FarmVille English Countryside, farmers everywhere have reported finding a mysterious blue Police Box in their FarmVille Gift Boxes. Although, no one seems to know where it came from or why we have all been given this curious little decoration, perhaps it’s just Zynga’s way of making us feel a little more secure on our new English farms. You know, just in case we need to make an urgent call for help!
The Police Box along with the Aviator Outfit and Butler Gnome are prizes that you can get whenever you hit milestones for guests attending your Bon Voyage Party leaving your home farm. These items are not available for direct purchase in the FarmVille Market.
FarmVille English Countryside Police Box
Before modern communication technology such as cellphones, British Police Boxes were located throughout England for the public’s usage in contacting police and also for police to use as a mini police station. Today, you can still find some British Police Boxes scattered throughout England, but most have been removed.
In FarmVille the Police Box is just a decoration that you can place on your farm or into your storage. It has a resell value of only 90 Farm Coins.
Many FarmVille Freaks are speculating it’s a nod to the insanely popular British television show Dr. Who. The show has bragging rights as the longest running science fiction television show in the world! The main character, the Doctor, travels through space and time in his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) or a 1950s Police Box.
What’s your theory? Why did the Zynga gods gift us this mysterious Police Box decoration?
