FarmVille Issues Update on “lllegal” Sheep & Pig Breeding

FarmVille Mike's Black & Yellow Pig

FarmVille issued a statement a few minutes ago on the official FarmVille Blog addressing “illegal” Sheep and Pig breeding.

If you currently have “illegal” Sheep or Pigs obtained or “adopted” from your Facebook News Feed (or from a neighbor) such as Flashers, which have not yet been released into the FarmVille Market, these animals will no longer breed to produce the same type offspring.  For now, this means that specific patterns such as Star and Flasher Sheep will no longer produce Star or Flasher offspring. However, if and when illegal breeds are actually officially released in FarmVille, then these animals will be able to breed again.

The types of patterned Sheep and Pigs that are allowed include the following:

  • Sheep: Plain, Striped, and Spotted
  • Pigs: Plain and Spotted

Please understand that most of your neighbors who have these “illegal” animals on their farms did not obtain them through hacks nor or they cheating. There is no need to start a FarmVille witch hunt! The spreading of these unreleased animals was so rampant due to legitimate breeding, sharing, and adopting.

Since so many farmers have these “illegal” animals on their farms in which they obtained through legitimate methods, they will be able to keep them and will not be punished. What FarmVille is doing is trying to prevent continued breeding of animals that they did not intentionally release. They are in the process of patching the original methods (hacks) of how these animals were obtained before they were then bred and shared.

From FarmVille:

“Howdy farmers!

We wanted to give an update to everyone regarding certain kinds of disallowed sheep that have been available in FarmVille as well as a similar issue that appeared with pigs this past weekend. Certain types of sheep and pig colors/patterns not yet released have been improperly distributed in FarmVille; we are currently going through the process of making sure this practice stops.

The steps that we have taken are:

  • The methods by which players were able to breed unreleased sheep and pig colors and patterns have been closed.
  • Players who bred sheep and pigs using illicit methods have had their animals revert to their original base colors and no patterns.
  • Pigs and sheep acquired from feed posts (but at some point were generated using illicit methods) will get to retain their unusual colors and patterns. However, attempts to breed with these pigs or sheep will result in default colors and no additional pattern inheritance. Should we release these additional colors or patterns legitimately then players will be able to breed that animal in the appropriate, correct manner. This is not an implication that you or your neighbors have done something wrong. This is a breeding restriction of colors and patterns that as of yet have not intended to be released.

So what’s currently allowed to breed and what’s not?

  • Most current colors are allowed but the “flashing” colors are definitely not.
  • Currently Allowed Sheep Patterns: Plain, Spotted, Striped
  • Currently Allowed Pig Patterns: Plain, Spotted

Again, the intention is to stop the distribution of colors and patterns that are not currently intended but not to punish our players who have acquired these animals legitimately. When we do release these colors or patterns, you’ll be able to breed with them just as intended.

Happy Farming!”

What do you think about this, FarmVille Freaks? Do you have “illegal” Sheep or Pigs on your farm? How does this change your view about breeding?

So what happened to FarmVille? Zynga explains.

FarmVille Sad Cow

In the past few days FarmVille has been fairly problematic. Some farmers have not been able to access their precious farms. Others have not been able to breed Sheep. Good news, some of these issues have been fixed and most farmers experiencing farm lockouts should now be able to visit their farms again. In the meantime, Puppy Hunger and Withering have been disabled until everything is completely resolved.

So what happened to FarmVille? In a statement released today via the official FarmVille Blog, Zynga addressed the FarmVille issues and explains what happened. It turns out that breeding some specific Sheep may have triggered one of the problem. Read below for all the details.

From FarmVille Official Blog:

“Here’s some information concerning players unable to play FarmVille, which are essentially lockouts for all intents and purposes:

#1 lockout first started around Wednesday night following an update, and more than likely involves an attempt to breed one of two sheep (the red-and-blue polka dot sheep and the Birthday sheep appear to be culprits at this point). It has nothing to do with “illegal” sheep or anything like that (as far as we can tell).

While we were attempting to identify this issue, lockout #2 occurred on early Thursday morning. This was something that went way beyond our control, and was wide-reaching enough that while the initial lockout was resolved by late Thursday afternoon, the effects of the root cause are still impacting Zynga at this very moment. Those who got locked out because of #2 should be able to get back in (though obviously because the lockouts look the same to you, you have no idea if you got hit by #1, #2 or both).

We have #1 fixed (we believe), but because the echoes of #2 are still impacting us, we haven’t been able to publish it and fix everyone that’s affected. We hope to do so in a short while but things can change (unfortunately, as you may have already seen).

Meanwhile wither and puppy hunger will remain off until this is all resolved. We are very much committed to getting everyone back into FarmVille as soon as possible, and we appreciate everyone’s patience in this matter. Thanks everyone, and we hope to get you back to your farms soon!” (Source: FarmVille Blog)

FarmVille Gift Box Upgraded! Sorting, Searching, & Selling Improvemnts

FarmVille Giftbox

Remember when we could only keep a measly 30 items in our FarmVille Gift Box and then 50 and later the 200 limit seemed like a lot?

FarmVille Freak DarkFarmer's Gift Box Upgraded

Well those days are long gone and due to the frustration of many farmers’ overflowing Gift Boxes, Zynga has upgraded FarmVille’s Gift Box by adding a new sorting feature, a search button, and selling options.

In a way similar to the FarmVille Market categories, the sorting feature allows you to find items much easier than before. Another big change to the Gift Box is its new ability to sell multiple items at once. If you have multiples of one item, then you can now choose the amount that you would like to sell. These are simple changes, but quite time saving and an overall improvement on the Gift Box. Thanks, Z!

(Note: Currently this feature is slowing rolling out throughout the day, so hang tight if you still do not have access.)

FarmVille Let’s Build Feature

FarmVille Let's Build

Constructing endless FarmVille building projects can be quite time consuming and tedious. Thankfully Zynga has added a new feature to building that will speed up the process and that I’m sure  every farmer will be happy to hear about.

With this new feature, all you will need to do is click on one of your building materials from your FarmVille Gift Box and then simply click on one of your highlighted incomplete buildings on your farm. If you have more than one building project that requires the same materials, you will be able to pick which building you would like the materials to be used at by simply clicking on the highlighted building of your choice. If you have several one type of material you can use as many as you want on that specific building project in one click.

Let’s Build!

(Note, as this feature is slowly rolling out you may not have access at this point, but soon will.)
Pro Tip: As FarmVille Freak Dab-a-roo suggest, if you do not have this feature yet, you can try to trigger it by using one of your existing building materials from your FarmVille Gift Box.

FarmVille Anti-Pause Slowly Rolling Out!

Mon ,04/04/2011

FarmVille Unpause English Countryside

You asked for it and thankfully Zynga responded! The number one complaint about the FarmVille English Countryside was the awful pause feature that meant only one of your farms could be active. Goodbye, pause! Our voices have been heard and in an update that is slowly rolling out to all farmers, you will now have the option of choosing whether you would like to use the pause feature or not. Hooray!

Whenever you play FarmVille after this update is available to you, you will be greeted with the menu below that gives you two travel options.

FarmVille English Countryside Travel Options

Travel Options

  • “Pause one farm”: Pause one farm while I am visiting another farm.
  • “Play both farms”: Keep both farms growing no matter where I am. WARNING: Crops may wither!/li>

FarmVille Keep Both Farms Growing Notice

FarmVille Pause One Farm Notice

Pretty much the only thing good about the pause feature was that you didn’t have to worry about crops withering on one of your farms. However, many FarmVille Freaks felt as though this was an oversight and that they were more than willing to handle two active farms and all the prosperity that comes with it. Of course the lucky and proud owners of Wither Rings will not have to worry about keeping track so diligently.

The official FarmVille Blog confirms the Anti-Pause rollout. (Source: FarmVille Blog)

So what will you do? Will you pause one farm or play both farms? Take our poll below.

A Real FarmVille Freak Preview of Traveling to the FarmVille English Countryside

FarmVille English Countryside

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit Zynga today, take a tour of the facilities, sit down with several high level employees (design and game production) all led by FarmVille Community Manager Grimwell. This is one of the many perks FarmVille Freak has because we have chosen to work with Zynga in our approved fan site partnership. The most exciting part about today is that I saw FarmVille English Countryside live!

Zynga employees said that they listened to their community and what they heard most was that farmers wanted a second farm, a fresh canvas, new challenges and new FarmVille experiences. While other ideas for other locations were rolled around, Zynga settled on the English Countryside. After seeing it today, FarmVille English Countryside seems like a natural step away or a vacation from our original farms. Zynga has carefully crafted a new kind of experience that taps into many game play aspects farmers know and love.

FarmVille English Countryside is very different from what I anticipated. What I am able to present to you today is a fresh look into the upcoming FarmVille English Countryside, with some inside scoop!

Traveling to the English Countryside

First let me be very clear, you will not need to add more neighbors, pay 47384738738 million coins or pay any Farm Cash $FV to explore new adventures in England. One day (release date is still unknown but coming sometime “soon”) Duke’s airship will crash onto your farm. Then, you will need to help him repair it, stock up some supplies and finally have a send off type party. This party will function very similarly to the New Years Ball. There will be several levels of guests and as soon as you have achieved the highest level, off to the English Countryside you will go!

When you are arrive in the FarmVille English Countryside you will meet several other characters. FarmVille English Countryside is story line or quest driven. Each character will present different scenarios and tasks for you to accomplish in which you will receive rewards. We have done a few quests in FarmVille for rewards, but rewards in FarmVille English Countryside seem very very worthwhile.

It’s important to know that participating in the story line is voluntary, it’s a choice that you make yourself. You do not have to take part or interact with the characters.

The quests will require no energy!
The FarmVille English Countryside is not energy driven at all like FrontierVille or Treasure Isle. It’s just good ol’ farming!

But more about that in my next post: Farming in the English Countryside! Check back soon for more posts about my adventure to Zynga! There is lots more info coming!

FarmVille English Countryside Pattern Sheep

In case you missed it, yesterday Angus the Sheep Breeder from the FarmVille English Countryside shared with us a teaser of new sheep.

From the picture we can see that there are all sorts of possibilities with these new patterned sheep.

Finally, the FarmVille Sheep will get a little love on the farm. Since the beginning of FarmVille the sheep have been neglected with no real place to call home and seek shelter. We already know that the English Countryside will have a Sheep Pen and new breeding capabilities. Yay for the Sheep!

Want to breed sheep with spots, stars, crazy patterns and wild colors? Come to the English Countryside to learn about your new Sheep Pen!

FarmVille Freak Greenhouse Guide

FarmVille Greenhouse Completed

An exciting new feature, the FarmVille Greenhouse along with new crops was released tonight! It will slowly be rolling out to all farmers. Note, that the Greenhouse was previously referred to by Zynga as the Glasshouse in past podcasts. Due to this name change, the old Greenhouse (a decorative building with no function that is available in the FarmVille Market) is now called the Glasshouse. The Cube Greenhouse that is available through iMobile-devices only is still just a decorative building and is not part of this new feature. Now that we’ve cleared up the naming confusion let’s get on to how this new feature works.

FarmVille Greenhouse Notice

The Greenhouse is a constructible building that you can use to create new FarmVille crops. As seen in the picture below, up to 10 new crops (with Crop Mastery) can be created. The Greenhouse is a multi-level constructible building with three construction phases similar to other constructible buildings. With each construction phase, the Greenhouse will change physical appearance. The bigger your Greenhouse, the more seeds you can produce.

  • Level 1 Greenhouse – 1 Seed Tray
  • Level 2 Greenhouse – 4 Seed Trays

FarmVille Greenhouse Explanation

Some of the new FarmVille hybrid crops include:

  • FarmVille Straspberry
  • FarmVille Purple Tomato
  • FarmVille Long Onion
  • FarmVille Sun Poppy
  • FarmVille Double Grain
  • FarmVille Whisky Peas
  • FarmVille Fire Pepper
  • FarmVille Squmpkin>
  • FarmVIlle Red Spinach
  • FarmVille Lilac Daffy

FarmVille Greenhouse Crops

Everyone will receive their Greenhouse frame for free. Upon entering your farm, you will enter into Placement mode. Then you can choose to immediately place your Greenhouse on your farm (if you have enough space cleared) or if not it will go to your FarmVille Gift Box if you want or need to place it later. If for some reason you do not receive your Greenhouse or you accidentally delete it, it can be purchased in the FarmVille Market under the Buildings tab.

You will need to inlist the help of your FarmVille neighbors to construct this new building for free. There are a total of three phases and each phase will require more bricks, nails, and wooden boards (See below for the building requirements per phase). The items needed can be found several ways: as free gifts, in Special Delivery Boxes, can be collected off Facebook newsfeed as bonuses, or can be purchased directly with Farm Cash. If you want to purchase building materials using Farm Cash, the cost is 1 FV$ per part. Remember, as each building phase is complete, the building becomes larger and more grand, but it will also increase the chance of producing new crops.

Greenhouse Building Requirements

  • Phase 1 Building Requirements: 4 Bricks, 4 Nails, and 4 Wooden Boards
  • Phase 2 Building Requirements: 15 Bricks, 15 Nails, and 15 Wooden Boards
  • Phase 3 Building Requirements: 20 Bricks, 20 Nails, and 20 Wooden Boards

FarmVille Greenhouse Expanding

Once your Greenhouse is complete, you can view details by first clicking the building on your farm and then clicking the “Look Inside” button from the menu. This view will open up the Greenhouse menu. The first Nursery tab displays the tray level as well as slots to place your seeds to experiement with. Different seed combinations will produce new crops. Clicking the “Place a Seed” button on Slot 1 and Slot 2 will show you a mini-Market display that displays 20 regular crops.

FarmVille Greenhouse Seed Genealogy

Simply place a seed in each slot and see if your combination works! Entering the correct crop combination, will tell you what the new crop will be and you will be deducted the cost of the crop. You can find the cost of the crop listed under each crop. However, if you enter the wrong combination of crops you will get an error message. Experimenting with new crop combinations can be time consuming because typically each experimented crop will take 3 days,  but don’t worry – your FarmVille friends can help you speed up the process! By clicking the “Ask for Help” button you can recruit your neighbors to help you reduce your experimentation time. Each friend that helps you will reduce the amount of time by one day.  Also, if you’ve got Farm Cash to spend, then using Farm Cash to buy your way through is another option. The cost is 2 Farm Cash for each “friend” that helped, for a total of 6 FV$ to bypass the growth stage.

When experimentation is complete, the clock timer is replaced with an image of a new seed packet. Simply, click the “Harvest” button and you will be rewarded with the new enhanced crop. After each completed experimentation, you will get a total of 50 seeds of that new crop. The crop seeds will go directly to your FarmVille Market seed inventory similar to giftable Limited Edition seeds such as the Black Roses . As a bonus you will be able to share this new crop with some of your friends as well.

Expanding the Greenhouse will introduce new seed tray levels for you to experiment with. Any combination of special crops can be experimented with.

The “Seed Genealogy” button displays the genealogy of all the special crops that are available to experiment with. It also shows you the mastery of the crop whenever you mouseover the crop’s image.

FarmVille Unreleased Visit England Sign

We’ve heard the rumors that FarmVille would be having an English invasion soon and now FarmVille Freaks are reporting that they must be true as they have started seeing billboard notices for the FarmVille England expansion on their farms!

We first heard mention of a possible English expansion through a hint on the official FarmVille podcast.

From what the FarmVille notification states, visiting England will offer farmers, “a whole new way to play your favorite game”. Perhaps, another farm in the English countryside?

If you’re not into advertising free billboards on your farm that may be an eyesore for your farming paradise, don’t worry, it can be deleted.
