The Llama and Alpaca are two new animals surfacing in FarmVille that seem to be causing some confusion.

Although the Llama and Alpaca closely resemble one another, there is a difference!

The white FarmVille Alpaca is currently only available through the Royal Blue & Pink Ribboned Mystery Box and is not purchasable in the FarmVille Market. It is noticeably more furry than the Llama.

The not-yet released FarmVille Llama is tan colored and is visably different from the Alpaca. The Llama was sent to us by a FarmVille Freak and was spotted in FarmVille on someone’s farm.

Here is a comparison pic:

So what is the difference between the Llama and Alpaca in real life?

“The llama and alpaca are only known in the domestic state, and are variable in size and of many colors, being often white, brown, or piebald. Differentiating characteristics between llamas and alpacas include the llama’s larger size and longer head. Alpaca fiber is generally more expensive, but not always more valuable. Alpacas tend to have a more consistent color throughout the body. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, alpacas were not bred to be beasts of burden but were bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items, much as wool is. These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles and ponchos in South America, and sweaters, socks, coats and bedding in other parts of the world.Commonly unknown, llamas do not have eyelashes. However, their cousin the alpaca does.”                        (Source: Wikipedia)

Do you think that the FarmVille graphic artists got this one right?

  2. john Says:

when are the new crops going to come out? They said that in one of the podcasts not to ong ago the one with the penguin.

  3. ZmanArt007 Says:

I think they look waaay too different. Besides size, build, and eyelashes, llamas and alpacas are basicly the same in appearance. I think the farmville llama looks more like a deer.

  4. farmgoddess Says:

I agree. I think the “llama” looks more like a deer! :)

  5. trevor Says:

but if you look at this pic it does look kindof similar to a llama

  6. dara sanglap Says:

i hate that alpaca because i like the llamas i wish i ill have a many many many llamas is that giftable animal :) or buying a fv cash :( ??! :*

  7. Stephanie Says:

That llama needs a bit more fluff on it’s coat. Like a smaller puff version of the alpaca.

  8. Sy Anders Says:

Alpacas are also less tameable than Llamas, but are about 20% stronger. Also, the Llama drawing looks more like Bambi with his horns cut off than even a cartoon Llama.

  9. Jezebel Says:

I just got two alpaca and I love them! I’m glad they are alpacas because I don’t trust llamas. At all.

  10. wsbsteven Says:

I thought of this episode of dirty jobs when I saw them.

  11. Polly Says:

The Llama does look just like a llama cria.

    Found a picture – http://contentment-farm.com/db3/00225/contentment-farm.com/_uimages/BabyLlamaMay06002.jpg
Looks the same apart from the darker head

  13. Ingexe Says:

i have two alpacas too they are very beautiful but i dont like lamas

  14. melissa Says:

Loved the Alpacas… cutest thing ever, but they are SO SMALL IN FARMVILLE! Almost like a cat size wth =/ and also too pricey, 16 FV cash for a giftbox and you don’t know for sure if you gonna get one, I think is crazy, not fair!. I really hope that they come out from golden eggs soon, just as the donkey thing was.

  15. James Dalen Says:

FamVille’s Alpaca is stupid. The most common type is not furry or white, it’s almost the same as a Llama.

  16. Brandon Says:

The llama is fake. Look at it’s shadow, it’s sketchy and out of proportion. All the other shadows for farmville animals are basic, blocky shapes.

  17. Emma Says:

Please (!!!) make the llama twice as large as the alpaca. Many people that I introduce to my alpaca and llamas are shocked at how much bigger a llama is.

It’s wonderful that you’re including them in the game. I’m excited and can’t wait until I have some on my FV page!!!

  18. Sue Says:

The ears on the Alpaca should be smaller and yes they come in many colors – 22 currently recognized colors for alpacas, along with several multi-colored. I own several alpacas in at least 5 different colors. The llama looks like a baby in comparison since adult llamas are much larger than alpacas. Otherwise, the artist did a fairly good job capturing the likeness of the animals.

  19. therlo Says:

yes, so I go for a mystery box and get a frickin jack in the box. Wtf? I sold it and am out the 16FV. What a crap gamble.

  20. dboy Says:

i, having 395 farmcash…. am perfectly happy with my 7 new alpacas and 9 grey geese not to mention my animal statue

  21. kiki Says:

Come on if you don’t like how the llamas look fine, don’t get ‘em when they arrive
I personally love how they look! Can’t wait for them to be released

  22. Carole Says:

What am I doing wrong? I have bought at least 8 mystery boxes but keep getting the Jack in the box, the giant bell, and the welcome gate… But on the bright aide I did get a couple of they of mystery ribbons…. :)

  23. Shannon Says:

OMG. I want a Llama, they are my favourite animals! <3 LLAAAAAAAAAAAAAMAAAAAAAAAAAA

  24. chicky2424 Says:

Who in world does not know the difference between an alpaca and a llama!!?? WTF?

  25. Jet Says:

Hello, i believe this so picture that is believed to be a llama is not a llama at all but a close relative of the llama the Vicuña. It looks like a llama bu is deer-like as in the picture above. here is what the Vicuña looks like just as the picture in FV. http://www.tropicalbirding.com/tripReports/TR_Argentina_Dec2006/Vicuna.jpg

  26. Marianne Martinez Says:

I’ve always thought of llamas as white, and alpacas as multi-colored or brown. However, I love both of them. As someone of Peruvian descent, and having seen them in Machu Pichu, I can’t wait until they release the ‘llama’ on FV to replicate Machu Pichu on my farm :) and while we’re at it, can I get a Peruvian flag, too :)

  27. caliwisco Says:

i want to get a damn alpaca, but i don’t want to waste my cash on the mystery box and get something stupid..

  28. Baardaap16 Says:

the alpaca looks good but the llama looks like a crappy horse
