Sweet Seeds for Haiti v.2: More info on the Cause
I like that Zynga is donating some of their monster profit from Farmville to a charity to support a good cause.
It is their company so they can chose who they would like to benefit from these charity events, but I would also like to see include other charities as well.
The first part of the Sweet Seeds for Haiti (Sweet Potatoes) was a success and over $583,000 was donated to impoverished children and their families in Haiti.
Official word from Zynga:
“During the month of October, more than 234,000 permits were contributed by Farmville farmers to help children and their families through the Sweet Seeds for Haiti effort! That translates into more than $583,000 donated to Haitian children and their families.
Thank you,farmers.
Where our contribution will go and how it will be used
With a population of just over ten million people, Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere and the 7th poorest in the world. Fifty-four percent of its people live on less than one dollar a day; 80% live on less than two dollars. Zynga’s mission of connecting the world through games is enhanced by our opportunity to support the health and education of these children and their families.Since unemployment in Haiti is so high (estimated at 30-50%), micro-loans such as those provided by one of our recipient organizations, Fonkoze, become critical to survival.”

why dont they give all of the proceeds to haiti then rather than only half

but THEY aren’t donating THEIR money. players who spend the $5 on fvc are donating their money and farmville is taking half of it. i think it’s slightly misleading for them to say otherwise.

i think maybe they should make it so that people who dont have mad farmville cash can still do this to help people. make it so that you can use like 200,000 coins or something like that, this was everybody gets a chance to help.

I’d probably do it if I could get a mastery sign in the week they provided the seeds.

we do have choices, to chose either to purchase or not, there is no obligation to buy anything on farmville. i have donated, but only because i wanted to support the cause, i didnt have to, but i did and glad i did so. ok so the other farmville cash content is unfair to those who cant afford it, but at the end of the day its a free game, something materialistic and virtual at that, costing nothing to play. ironically though and unfortunate, emotion filters money these days and vice versa (this is zynga’s aim), and thats the beauty of social gaming. scam or not, you have a choice, do not let your emotions get the better of you with any form social media, otherwise your going to end up in a messy state of mind.
