FarmVille Biplane Flight Cost Formula
This week the FarmVille Biplane was introduced. The Biplane can be purchased for 30,000 coins and will instantly fertilize your entire crop with Insta-Grow. While the first flight is free, additional flights will cost varying rates of farm cash depending on how much time is remaining until your crops are ready to harvest.
There is no set price as it dependent on several factors including what crop you are growing, the time remaining, and how many plots you have.
FarmVille Freak Ingeborg hypothesizes that there is a formula used to calculate the cost of Biplane flights. Here is her thoughtful explanation described below. Thank you for sharing with us FVFreak Ingeborg.
“Hi,
I know the calculation for costs on the Biplane:
- 2000 first hours = 1 FV$ (farm cash)
- +1 FV$ for every additional 1000 hours.
- Use 24 hours for 1 day, not the 23 hours Zynga usually uses.
→ Example: 100 plots of watermelons =9600 hours= 9 FV$. If they are 50% ready it’ll be 4800 hours= 4FV$
It’s a theory, but it works every time I checked! A lot of people keep asking on the forums how to calculate the costs and I can keep answering but i think it’s more effective if FarmVille Freak makes a post about it!
The exact formula will be : (X*H*P)/1000-1= # FV$ ( round up! )
in which:
X= Number of plots
H= Grow time of the crop in hours (Carrots=12, Watermelons=96, Peas=24 etc.)
P= (100-percentage of the crop)/100. This means: if a crop is 50% ready P= (100-50)/100=0.5
If the crop is freshly planted P=1. If a crop is at 90% ready P=0,1Happy farming

It’s a neat idea. I used my free flight on a crop of watermelons and got the first two mastery levels out of it with the help of a bushel from the farmer’s market. But I wouldn’t pay FV cash to do it again.

I’ll just wait until we can get the instagrow in eggs. The fuel was super hard to get at first, but now I have over 1,300… I’m sure when they see that no one cares instagrow will start being given away.

I used it about 8 times today, and it only cost 1 farm cash per go – for raspberries and blueberries. It was 1 farm cash each time, that was all.

i have 444 plots and when i went to use the plane a second time it told me it would cost 40 fv cash. i was planting wheat i think. how is it some of you are talking about 2 or 3 fv cash?

This formula doesn’t work. I just checked a 14% grown crop of daffodils – a 48 hour crop – on 373 plots. The formula calculated 16FV$ but the requested cost by querying the bi-plane is 23FV$.

Hi,
It’s wonderful to have the Plane introduced by FV, I love the Plane – first flight is free – it was Gr8 Experience to have crops harvested instantly – but second time I clicked on it n did not know my FV Cash ie 2 FV Cash wld be gone. I was happy to see crops Harvested instantly though. But one does not have sufficient FV CASH as it is.
We have to spend 30,000 coins to buy it – n if have to pay FV Cash each time, I wonder who can afford this ? We get 1 FV in AGES !! How can we afford to USE this Plane – Farm Ville must do something abt this issue – else it’s gonna ROT around in one corner of the FARM.

Eric – the formula above states X=plots.
The plane comes in handy for mastery only or to reduce the chance of withering. I can’t play during the weekdays and have roughly a few hours each evening to play so all my crops have to be 16+ hour crops. With the plane I can do the shorter crops and get them out of the way (esp. since the mastery on ghost chilis is 9000)

Firstly, Ingeborg is a GIRL’s name…(Nordic origin), please correct original introduction.
Secondly, Eric, Ingeborg noted that this formula includes # of plots.
Thirdly, I hope when no one buys instagrow, that it will show up in Mystery Eggs or Mystery Gifts. In the meantime, it’s a neat decoration and looks good next to my Hot Rod Tractor, Seeder and Harvester!

Based on this formula, (assuming I have 450 plots…not even a full farm planted) if I plant watermelons and use the plane immediately, it will cost me 43 fv cash to cause “instagrow?”
Hardly worth it IMO… another terribad release DYNGA..
Either make it avail for coins or figure out why the game is so choppy and dookie.

My complaint is Zynga didn’t say you couldn’t use the insta-grow on co-op jobs. They initially counted the crops, and then, a few hrs later, deducted them from our total. That’s not playing fair, Zynga.

I noticed that it doesn’t matter how many plots you have planted. it is one fv cash for every 2 hours. So it you plant all strawberries it will cost 2 fv cash, because it is a 4 hour crop and you 1 cash for every 2 hours you want to speed up. If it is a 16 hours crop like peanuts it will take 8 fv cash. But if you plant 3 quarters of you plats with something short like strawberries and then the other quarter with something long like watermelon. It will only charge you the 2 fv cash because most of the field is strawberry.

The equation was spot on! Tried it with calculator and then checked it by clicking on bi plane. Easy peasy! Thank you for the formula. Yes, I know it all bites to have to spend cash, but when has anything worthwhile NOT cost cash on FV? No way I am spending 23fv on my half grown watermelon, but nice to know what it would have cost. Best to stick to crops under 12 hrs..they are cheap!

I will probably just use the plane one time. The only time I can see that it’s useful is when you do co-ops and they’re pretty lame. I want better rewards.

Since it costs FV$ to purchase fuel, and you should really need the fuel to fly a plane….. it would make more sense to me to be able to either collect the FUEL or purchase FUEL to use the plane. Besides, I have nearly 1500 gallons of fuel, and I will never use it all……..Maybe if they gave us more SPACE I would have room for more plots so I could use my fuel!! Cute plane, but it’s just taking up space that I don’t have enough of in the first place!

Not true, Janis. I was 18 watermelon crops short for the mastery (96 hour crops) and I seeded 9. Used the plane and charged me 1 FVC. With the Farmer’s market bushel it all worked fine.

Katie, No you can NOT sell the plane and buy a new one to get another free flight. I thought of that right after I harvested, so I did sell mine and bought another one, but when I went to use it ,it said it would cost 38 FV cash. My plane is now a 60,000 Fv cash decoration.

there are to many neat things but they cost farmville cash. i am not buying anything in that sense. i have 2 kids that play and a sister and cant even afford to get my kids dogs back because it costs farmville cash .. need to change the rukles f the game some. it is fun but not to spend my money being a single mom i need groceries first!

Katie – no I wondered that and tried it, having got two planes from co-op jobs. Only one free flight on first one.
Janis – that doesn’t work I’ve done 240 plots of sugarcane – 8hr crop – for 1FV.
No-one needs to do maths for this. Plant what you want, click the plane it will tell you the cost. If you don’t like it then don’t accept, you can leave the crop to grow.
I did the watermelon and yellow melon mastery’s when I got it, had not hing on any of them at the start. First payment was 23 FV, that wen down for each crop, to about 10FV I think.
Since then I have done several other crops long and short term. The price varies but as I say you don’t have to accept.
It is great for the co-op. Using it on carrotts with 2 others who clearly also used it we had gold in 2 hours.
Generally I shall use it for crops that take longer than 2 days and/or have very high numbers needed for mastery.

If ewe are working on a co-op, ewe can finish it almost immediately and gain coins and XP real fast. This needs to be considered.
If ewe also look at the cost of coin, it could be a good way to train FV $ for coins if ewe are saving for that manision.
One of my stratagies is to be sure to plant a crop before going to bed and use the plane the next day so that its use gets cheaper overnight.

This seems to work… I tried to insta-grow 513 plots of brocoli & lavender (both 2 day) as soon as I planted them and it said I need to buy more farmcash. I have 22 and that wasn’t enough.

i loved the free flight but tried it on peanuts and i had 7 fv cash wouldnt work, i wont pay to use it but someone said if u sell it then do the peanut butter job and get a free one each time u can get a free flight each time, dont know how true it is but im gonna try it , i got my first one for free

If we can buy the plane with coins, why can’t we fuel the plane with coins? I have over 11,000,000 coins – what am I supposed to do with all of them?! The way I look at it is this………..it’s a game, #1 most of us have been playing it for free for who knows how long. To have to pay for something here and there if you don’t want to do it……..Don’t!!!!!!! And if your frustrated with some glitches that happen as they do in any video game, quit playing!!!!!! Video games aren’t free anyway, go buy one and see if it’s perfect. Ya you could get lucky but there more than likely will be glitches. Farmville is a game to be enjoyed and played for fun and meeting new friends. Why do so many people have to complain and gripe about it. If you don’t like it….quit playing!!!!!!

My calculation is easy:
Example:
400 Plots
Strawberries grown (4 Hours)
400 x 4 = 1600 / 1000 = 1.6 FV (round up to 2FV)
—-
400 Plots
Watermelons grown (96 Hours – 4 Days)
400 x 96 = 38400 / 1000 = 38.4 (round down to 38FV)
I have mastered 6 crops in the last 2 days and formula has been spot on.

Okay, I have to admit that I don’t mind the plane. Considering if I have a specific time designated to play on the computer I can “hurry up” my crops and get it over with.
What I don’t like is not knowing for sure how much it will cost. I think they should come up with something more concrete where this is concerned.
What I am getting very, very sick of is the incessant pop-ups. Seriously, Zynga? Do you have to give me three billion pop-ups for every single action? That is one thing that ruined YoVille for me.

Tried the free flight, then harvested the Tulips, plowed and replanted the tulips and tried the plane again, having 6 FV and it said not enough cash.
This sounds like the work at home scam that is on the web. “I made $6,568 last month by working at home and you can get started for less than $10.00.
Scam, THE THING COST ALMOST $400 TO GET SET UP, THE POSTAGE TO SEND IT TO YOU IS LESS THAN $10.

Cute plane BUT I won’t buy fuel for it. Why can’t we have a way to “earn” farm cash? Or receive it in eggs or gift boxes. It’s really unfair that those of us who choose NOT to spend our hard earned money on a game are getting screwed!!! There are so many things I would like to buy but can’t because I refuse to spend real money to play.

I just did a P & J co-op and we all used the biplane. It counted the plots we did. Finished it 7 hrs 36 minutes. It was the first flight so it was free.

to #67 (Alberta)–the quickest and easiest way to get fuel is to collect the assorted items needed for a collection. whenever you see someone posting a collection grab what you can. I always try to coordinate posting them together with some of my neighbors so that we can collect off of each other, and therefore hopefully gain the items that we need. I often have 10 or more collections at once and that makes for a LOT of fuel!

You will only get ONE free flight with the bi-plane.
The first plane I bought from the market and used the free flight & sold it.
The second plane I received for the new co-op job. No free flight at all & sold it also.
The third plane I purchased from my market again & still no free flight.
So it is just ONE free flight per account.

This whole biplane & market stalls are really kind of irking me. I mean, I’ve got 30 masteries so far, and 28 of them were done without the market bushels, without the biplane, they were done by planting plots, 1 by 1, and harvesting them. I’ve got so many masteries because I’ve worked hard at them, and now- lots of others are going to get all these masteries and worked at least half as hard. Quite upsetting.

Guys, if you haven’t noticed, within the last month or so Zynga has given out 36 FV CASH (If you were lucky and actually bothered to do it) oh and two withers each worth 10 FVC so basically they’ve given us 53 FVC!!!!!!!!!

I have been wondering, if someone started playing farmville for the first time today and immediately bought expansions with Farmcash, and immediately started harvesting using the biplane (using farmcash) and bushels, how much farmcash would it take to do all the masteries this way?
Basically, now that you can “buy” your way to elite status in a matter of a couple of days, what would the pricetag be?
It wouldn’t be any fun to do it this way, but I bet the dollar amount would be staggering….. and interesting to know……

I’m not certain, but I would be willing to wager that there’s more to the equation than just time. The level of the crop also has to come into play. Wheat, for instance, likely costs far less to grow than Red Wheat. I don’t feel like testing it myself, but anyone with more ambition than me care to try?

Oh good Lord! I didn’t buy the plane yet, and now I’m glad I didn’t. Something that complicated isn’t what I want on a casual game…thanks but no thanks…I won’t be buying a plane…

We shouldn’t have to pay farmcash, it should just be like however many crops you want to harvest times 40. So 300 crops would be 12 000 coins. Seems reasonable. But im not paying any more than 1 farmcash per flight when i can use fuel and get fuel by eggs, collections, and fertilizing.

Thats why i used my free flight in conjunction with a bushel to plant a 4 day crop and get mastery in one go (watermelons), ten minutes instead of 4 days, first time id planted them to, had 451 plots, needed 450 so it was close

I think the plane is wrong.I worked hard to get a mastery in artichokes and a neighbor got his in 2 seconds. Sort of like buying a gold medal. A mastery sing will cost about $ 2 F V or 9000 hrs of work

I like the plane for its aesthetic value. I have 4 already, and will have more in the days to come. I plan on building a small airport on my spare farm, with greenhouses as the hangars. It should be cool!

Its strange I don’t experience any kind of issues with the game – never lost gifts and it always seem to be working perfectly I am at level 42 – I think people should stop complain and bitch around because this game is very popular and imagine all the work it takes to fix things and satisfy customers and besides the game is free as well. So accept and be happy that farmville is going to make level above 70 and 100 -

i planted some yellow melon..and i try to biplane..it…it did not work cause i don’t have enough farmville dollars and it was asking for credit card…i did not come to use credit to play a game,so this game as to be for farmville cash only…I now have only 4 farmville dollars,so how much would i need to grow my crop with biplane.

when you harvest your chickens you get eggs to post to the feed for your friends to collect, not you. you get eggs by asking people to send them to you. it takes 4 of each item, 4 eggs, 4 olives, 4 truffles, 4 milks to move up by 5 in the tent.

@ BIG FARM STUD … yes you do get eggs for yourself when you harvest a chicken and post to feed. you get one to share via the post and your egg favour count goes up by 5 automatically. Same for every other ingredient you harvest.

well, it worked for me, but here you go a little simpler…….
the # of plots times the hours left for crops to grow equals……
then subtract 2000, then divide by 10000.
My example was I planted cotton which takes 3 days, so 72 hours.
I have 317 plots SO 317 plots times 72 hours each makes
317 x 72 = 22,824
because the first 2000 hors cost 1 $fv then 1 for every thousand, we subtract 20000
22,824 – 2000 = 20,824
then divide by 1000 to see how many 1 fv dollar I need
20,824 / 1000 = 20.824 so 21 fv dollars plus the 1 for the first 2000 hours makes 22 total.
A little more explained though I don’t know about simpler. I tried

Well, unfortunately i just discovered how much it would cost after planting 480plots with yellow melons and watermelons.
It sucks. The message onkly states “you do not have enough FV cash for this…”
I dont´t know hou much it will cost, but it is more than the 41 fv cash i have. Why can´t it use fv coins???

do not bother with the biplane. it is probably the dumbest addition to fv vehicles if not the dumbest thing that uses fv$.
what i did do was this:
bought the biplane the first hour it came out.
just today, i planted an entire field of yellow melons: 500 in all.
then i used the biplane to instantly grow them. it is cool to watch the plane buzz around. make sure you shrink your farm so that you can see everything birds eye to see the plane buzz around.
then just as the message that i have one bushel of melons, i go into farmers market and use that one bushel for personal use. now mastery is x2.
in one harvest, i mastered yellow melons (which would have taken over a week).
i then sold the plane and repurchased it for 30k coins (i have close to 9 million so 30k is nothing). i click the plane to instant grow and an applet pops up to say that it will take $4fv to grow instantly.
so, selling the plane then rebuying it does not ‘reset’ the plane to get its free initial instant grow. so…i just deleted my second plane since it is useless to me until they change their fertilization protocol.

The biplane is a great example of something that’s pretty cool, and doesn’t cost Cash. It costs 30,000 Coins.
The biplane can also be acquired for free, without paying 30,000 coins. You just have to put in the effort to win the Gold on the Peanut Butter & Jelly Co-Op challenge.
To do this, you have to decide out who’s going to grow peanuts and who’s going to grow berries.
That’s a great opportunity to practice a little bit of real-life interpersonal skills such as communication and courtesy, and, it takes a little bit of math. How many people does this co-op job take?
After you’ve used up your one-time freebie, more red biplanes can be sold off for 1500 Coins.

So far, I’m unable to say if the formula is accurate, but given it will prove to be, I will make use of the plane for the following:
As I have a window of about 7.5 hours per day for accessing FV, it is nearly impossible to do 8- and 10-hour crops. But if I let them grow for a few hours, I can get them ready for just 1 FV-$, which is IMHO a reasonable price.
Example: 10-hour crop on 548 plots is 5 FV-$. Waiting for about 6 hours 24 minutes gets them to 64%, the remaining 36% should cost 1 FV-$ if the formula is accurate.
Math: (0.548*10*0.36)-1=0.9728

I purchased a second bi-plane but I was not allowed a free first flight. So don’t be fooled by that. I have helped out on several co-ops with the use of my free flight and then letting the crop grow for a while. You still have to pay the fv cash but it’s a lot cheaper when the crop is closer to being grown.

Farmville is becoming such a stupid game now because of all the **** they nickel and dime you on. You want golgi berrys? Go the 7-11! You want to use the bi-place? Buy FV cash… you want any cool buildings? Sorry you can’t afford them! This game isn’t fun anymore. I’m beginning to stop playing it as much because i can’t do it anymore. They MUST HAVE updated the price, because I kept records of how many plots I could seed with various crops for 1 farmcash. I just e-mailed Zynga because changing the price midstream is really not ethical in my opinion. Especially when I just bought a bunch of farmcash to get me to the higher levels quicker now that there is an incentive to get there. This calculator no longer works… (it used to though).

Sorry your formula didn’t work for me.
I had 29 FV$ and opted for the corn based on your formula as I want to unlock the posole corn.
I planted 400 plots of corn (72 hour crop) the Biplane says it requires 47 FV$ but your calculation said 28$. So I waited to morning and they are now at 13% and the plane wants 42 FV$.
Looks like I will have to wait longer.

The formula is not correct. I just planted cucumbers which is a 24 hr plant. I have 466 plots. According to the formula:
(X*H*P)/1000-1= # FV$ ( round up! )
in which:
X= Number of plots = 466
H= Grow time of the crop in hours = 24
P= (100-percentage of the crop)/100. = (100-0)/100 = 1
(X*H*P)/1000-1= (466*24*1)/1000-1 = 10.184 (rounded up to 11)
However, when I clicked on biplane, it said that it would cost 16 farm cash. That’s a big difference. Does anybody have a formula that actually works?

THE PLANE IS A BIG WASTE OF TIME, SPACE, FV CASH AND COINS…unless you got the biggest land and plant yellow mellons (528 coins per plot) spend the 30,000 coins and get a whole lot more!!! thats the best use for it….hope it helps.

ok one thing i think everyone needs to understand is….. This game, altho “free” and addictive. is designed to make people want to do things faster. yes you can do most everything without paying for your FV cash and stuff. however, the people who make this game, WANT THEIR MONEY!!! it stands to reason that they are going to make it so that something that is so convenient is going to cost something that is not easily available. hence FV cash is what it costs. i read a lot about people complaining that they make it difficult for those who dont want to spend their real money on the game. thats the point!!! they want you to spend it. thats how they stay in business and keep creating new things for us to all enjoy. the people who DO pay are making it so that people who DONT pay can have new items…
life isnt free and if you cant afford it, then dont do it. but dont complain about the fact that the makers want to earn something for their time and effort in producing a game that is readily available to play for free if you decide to wait instead of wanting things now.

This isn’t quite exact, as sometimes the calculated figure doesn’t quite match what Zynga want to charge, but it’s close enough:
(X*H*P) / Z = C
X= Number of plots
H= Grow time of the crop in hours
P= (100-percentage of the crop)/100
Z= 280 . This is the closest I could get to the constant without much more time and experimenting.
If C is less than 1, but more than 0, then C = 1. If it’s above 1, round to the nearest integer. So, if C = 1.4, round down so C = 1 . If C = 1.5 , round up so C = 2 .

blue berries can make you some money so you can grow up to 168 of them and that more than you had before

hi .. i have 629 plots .. i planted grapes … now i have 21 hours to go …
when i applied this formula, i got 629*21/1000 – 1 = 12.2 = 12 (rounded off)
but when i clicked on the biplane, it said it would cost me 45 fv cash

That’s with the old formula which no longer works, and the time it estimates seems to always be rounded to the nearest hour. Using the formula I posted, my estimation is that you checked at about 12-13% growth which would be:
629 * 23 * (100 – 12) / 280 = 45.45
or
629 * 23 * (100 – 13) / 280 = 44.95
Rounded to the nearest integer, that would give 45FC.

@everyone that says that it’s ok to pay money because the game can’t be free: FarmVille has millions of users and visitors to the website. Do you know how much money they make from advertising? You have no idea.
The point is that they always want more and more money and they will ruin the fun.
I agree with the paid things. But they should make them available for free, just to be harder to obtain. Do you want it fast? Pay. Don’t want to pay play longer, do more things in the game.

I think there might be a minimum cost of $3, because when I plant my ghost chilis (163 plots x 6 hours = 978) and then try to biplane them immediately, according to your equation it should only cost $1 but instead it costs $3.
Actually, come to think of it, this didn’t work for my wheat either. About 200 plots x 12 hours = 2400, but it cost $9 to biplane them immediately.

I was heading to bed and didn’t want to wait for my crop to finish. It only had about 30 minutes to go so I figured I’d let the plane handle it… I clicked Instant Grow and the dialogue came up showing the total cost would be 43FV$. This new window was new for me since it used to only apply to crops, but now trees are included. I knew immediately that I was going to spend 43FV$ so I read carefully and saw that it only wanted 1FV$ to finish the crop! I was relieved and decided to go ahead and just apply the Grow for my crops, NOT the trees.
I clicked the CROP option.
43FV$ later, my entire farm is ready for harvest
I’ve now learned there is a green checkmark that is ON by default, that must be unchecked before clicking anything else. I was so upset, things like that make me want to burn the place down and leave the farmer strung up in the barn.

I am so pissed because of this plane fast grow crap and it does produce my melons full grown and ready to harvest then it says my farm is out of sync then I am back where I started. Fix the dam thing already. I know how to do programing so do even think it takes along time. Just do it.
