That’s not a buckskin horse. A buckskin would have a black main and tail, as well as a black dorsal stripe (a stripe that goes down the middle of the horses back).
~Garnet
Horse owner in real life for 30 consecutive years.
to Garnet: good for you! I don’t believe the folks in LA have ever seen some of the things they present as correct. A little research, please. thanks for setting things right.
Love the sweeping long tail. Thank you phonejack for not saying….first!!! Now THAT is something to admire! someone who’s first and doesn’t play that juvenile game.
actually this version would be considered a buckskin. there are buckskin paints even. what you describe w/the dorsal stripe is a “dun”…i have a dun in real life. and my good friend has a buckskin paint. there are diff variations of bucksins can’t wait till this one gets released – i’m buyin it!! (horse owner in real life too for 44 years
fr the Amer. Buckskin Registry Assoc where my horse is registered: BUCKSKIN: Body coat some shade of tan, from very light (creme) to very dark (bronze). Points (mane, tail, legs and ear frames) are black or dark brown. Dorsal not required.
Love the look of this one. I agree with Garnet not true to life but love the new breeds they release. I am a Country Western, vehicle loveing kind of gal. They could have done so much more on the Western scenes for my taste, but would only probly be FV cash anyways. Tired of everything I like being cash required, would like to have an option for everything. Guess that is too much to ask for, since they have to make the real cash for playing. I thought Facebook started out being here for the Service peoples families and that is why it was free. Guess that went by the wayside or I was misinformed. Well, anyways I like the new horses, especially the black and grays, both of them. That cream pony is really cute. Looks like a misdirected version of the Clydsdale, very cute, but more like the horses on Farmtown.
This looks like a great horse! Remember that this is still unreleased, although I love and Trust Farmville Freak, the name may be wrong. I agree it looks like Dun instead. I also agree with the ideas for more dogs, especially ones that are for coins instead of cash. I have four dogs right now, two for cash and two for coins, since I got some farmcash for my birthday from my parents. At least in each different theme they have released at least one building per release (multiple releases, one for each) which satisfies me enough. I plan on getting this particular horse when its makes it appearance though!
I love all the horses put out. Would like to get them via coins instead of FV cash. Would like to be able to produce the foals of the horses and cows. If everyone could get one with coins we could have calfs and foals of the breed we put in our stables and nurseries.
could be a buckskin. The dorsal stripe is the genetics of the Dun horse. buckskins can have a dorsal strip but then they are called dunskin not buckskin, however they are commonly known to have the agouti gene which distributes black to the points of the horse, ie black mane tale and legs. However other factors can change that as I just had a buckskin born with an alomost solid blond mane. genetic tested to be a buckskin by ucdavis gentic lab in california. And the black in their mane and tale can sunbleach to a dark brown. The white on the legs and face is a gene that has not yet been discovered. it is a dominate gene and covers black, but there is at this time no way to test to see if a horse will throw this color on their foal or where it would be located at.
definatly want one for sure!
Love the horse! My Mustang is colored more like a Buckskin though. We have a Buckskin mare in real life and she’s colored more like the Mustang than this horse. I agree with Lizzie, Debby, Erin, and Garnet. The horse is a Dun.
Bah, dorsal stripe or no dorsal stripe, that is no buckskin. Buckskins are yellower in colour – the colour is named after the resemblance between the horse’s hide and tanned deerskins.
That horse is a dun. A buckskin can also be a dun (as a “buckskin dun”, if it is a yellower coloured horse with a dorsal stripe.
There’s confusion partly because the American Quarter Horse association used to incorrectly define them.
And yeah, lots of us real life horse people here, lol.
doesn’t look my real life dun. no dorsal stripe. sure looks like a lot of buckskins i’ve shown against.
Amer Bucksin Reg Assoc : * DUN: Body coat some shade of tan, from very light (creme) to a dull or smutty brown (earth tone). Points, dorsal stripe and other dun factor markings are dirty black or smutty brown. There are many shades and variations in the dun color. Dorsal stripe required.
I’m not sure if im going to get this or the White Appaloosa.I missed the first Appaloosa and i wanted to have one,but this horse is really awesome(although not as awesome as the Morgan, which was my fav)….
I like it. Although having horses myself, yes a buckskin would have a black mane and tail. And thier body color does range from a light cream to dark. Can there are a lot of variations to the body color.
A dark dun would have black mane and tail along with the dorsal stripe down the back.
Some have black legs with with the striping from the knee up.
A red dun has also has a red doral stripe and can have anywhere froma light red mane and tail to a dark red or brownish mane and tail. They can also have the the dark red striping above the knees.
Both colors can also have the primative markings or striping on the shoulders and along the neck.
I have one of each. My stud is a Dun. IF you want to get technical he is a Zebra Dun due to all the primative markings. And my mare is a red dun with the same primative markings but in a darker red shade.
Anyway.. This is just a game so call them what ever you like. Heck you should get a horse of a different color just like on the old version of the Wizard of Oz.. One that changes color all the time..lol
j have many in my stable but all i get are foals from the gray, brown and ponys when i take these out all i get is cash or xp how do people breed more than one horse a day as i have tried everything on the blogs, i have white stalion and the mini please help
thanks , will be getting this one, wizzard of oz horse is a good idea
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ONE!! I’ll get one! So much better than that second appaloosa thing. The color isn’t accurate for a buckskin on this one but he is very pretty anyway! I’ll get him! !!!
And hopefully they will also offer those black and white and red and white spotted STALLIONS pretty soon! THAT would be SUPER!
i have maybe 10 different horses in my stable but since i don´t have a stallion and can´t produce foals, i get reluctant to buy new horses…. do you all have stallions in your barns?? how can you produce so many foals??
I’m sorry to say but this is not a true Buckskin as for I was taught a Buckskin has a black main & tail & they also have a black strip running down their back. If ya’ll are going to call it a buckskin at least make it look like one as a Buckskin is a very beautiful horse. Thank You & have a nice day!!!
Who cares what this is a dun or what! I just love to play FarmVille and get all the horses I can. I will try to get this one if and when they release this one. I think it is a might fine looking horse!
I dont know the difference between the types, just named it what it was called which was just buckskin. As for multiple foals a day, put a horse that you want to breed thats over over %34 in empty stable, stable will become ready, add stallion, harvest, remove horses, repeat. Its not rocket science, since horses are on 3 day rotation and buildings are one, any horse over 34% will make building ripe.
I don’t think it super important to the real life likeness i just like that they are coming out w different ones to add to the game. they have come up with some really awsome stuff now if they would just make the gifts u can give availble in the store for the players to but would make it all that much better cuz i have a tick about numbers on items.
Martha – Facebook was not created for the benefit of service people but for the students at the University Zuckerman was at – it just spread from that.
As to the horse colour/breed – well there are many variations and the standards in different countries are different
Its a horse in a game that has just given us a green horse with horns for heaven’s sake – can it matter
What’s all the fuss over whether or not it’s a dun? It’s not a dun. It doesn’t have the dorsal stripe. Enough said. They never said it was a dun. It IS a buckskin, that is the name of the color, not the horse…. jeese! What, is there a bunch of kids on here? All this fighting! The name the horse is coming out with is ‘buckskin’. There is no where on facebook or zenga for that matter where they have to make any animal, person, thing, plant, etc. that is true to life. You want true to life? Then what are you doing here? The rest of us love what the programmers are doing. With all the complaining, if they happen to read these little tidbits, they would stop creating. Is that what you want? I for one do NOT want that to happen. One thing is the same as in real life…. if you complain all the time and never give any compliments, people feel their efforts aren’t good enough. So if you are a child, then ignore my post…. you’ll grow up soon enough. BUT for the rest of you…. especially those that espouse to 30 and 40 years of horsing experience. GROW UP!!!!!!! I play games to get away from the pressure of everyday life, I don’t need to come on here and listen to a bunch of arguing. Sheesh! You sound worse than my grand kids!
I agree the Mustang is more the colourings of a Buckskin in real life but what horse is farmville ever right with LOL pink mane ponys, purple mane ponys, blue ponys, alien horses and so on seriously i don’t think farmville are ever true to life or even try to be tho WHEN ARE WE GONNA GET A PALOMINO TO KEEP ON OUR FARMS! that wandering stallion has been teasing me forever.
Darn it – I have just rearranged my horse paddock to include my Carmargue and Mini horses!! Gonna have to upgrade it again, sighs – need another expansion soon!!!
I love all the new horses, no matter their color, but we could really use some different colors for the stallions, black and white is getting boring. We also need something better for the nurseries, they produce very seldom and most of that is black horses! Let’s have more true to color foals, and what the hell are those nurseries busy doing? PLEASE get rid of that!
Farmville’s just gotten too greedy, the bits take forever to load, and it’s just so complicated now. I only check my farm occasionally to accept gifts and get foals etc. Zynga sucks now.
Easy there Marstn…people are entitled to their opinions and whatever else they want to say so long as it isn’t offensive. Who’s fighting? Chill out and go back to enjoying FV rather than freakin over what folks are sayin on FVF. Btw, love FVF! So glad I’m fan cause I love seeing all the unreleased stuff like the Buckskin. Gives me something to play and save for.
As to the whole “buckskin/dun” argument – I have a third option.
How about, that’s not a true horse color at all?
Buckskin is the result of the cream gene (C) on a bay basecoat. Bay horses have brown coats with black manes and tails and black points (feet, muzzle). All horses are made of essentially two colors – black and red (which usually comes out brown). Cream affects only the red areas, diluting their color to a yellow (with one copy of the gene) or white (with two copies of the gene).
In favor of buckskin – black points (remnants of the bay coloring).
Against the buckskin – how about the fact that the mane and tail are brown? Darker brown, but still very brown. Also, the body color is lighter, but not really approaching “buckskin” (even dark buckskins).
In favor of dun – black points.
Against dun – absence of a dorsal stripe, neck shadowing, zebra barring, or any of the other traits that come along with the dun gene.
Equally, the horse could be bay, although again, the mane and tail aren’t dark enough.
Good try though, Zynga!
(BTW, my background on this – I’ve studied equine color genetics for the last three years, have a degree in Animal Science, and I’m going for my master’s degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Equine Management.)
Not a buckskin. Mustang is more buckskin. Dark legs and 4 white feet? Not a bay. More of a sorrel. Come on Farmville…….with all of the beautiful breeds and colors that exist it’s not that difficult. I won’t buy this one….way too far off.
Does anyone have the white horse with the red mane yet? I really want one to add to my collection but its not for sale yet though have seen it on my neighbours farms.
Since we “horse people” are voicing opinions, I’m a Paint person and I’d like to see an Overo. Why is it when people make Paints (or pinto’s – non registered) they always make tobianos? I’m guessing FV will have lots of breeds sooner or later, but a variety in each breed would be nice.
I love the Buckskin Stallion. I can’t wait for it to be released. I keep checking the market and I’m scanning the feed’s to find out when it will be released. I want a stallion, so I can breed. I don’t mind paying the 26 FV for him. I have bought all the horse’s that they have, but I missed the White Stallion. I wish they would bring him back, I really do. I played the Mystery Game twice, looking for the White Stallion and then I realized that it is stocked with Wild West stuff. OH well, got some nice stuff.

I have a REAL** BUCKSKIN PAINT- Buckskin is NOT THIS COLOR – its a creamy brown, almost like a caramel or tan-ish color….THIS IS NOT A BUCKSKIN.
Posted on August 23rd, 2010 at 2:12 pm

I’m guessing FV will have lots of breeds sooner or later, but a variety in each breed would be nice.

lovely……i need one

Though it looks NOTHING like a buckskin, its sooo adorable!
a buckskin would have a more honey colored coat and dark brown/black points. {Usually
}

This has been released in China. I have seen others posting Buckskin foals. I can hardly wait to get one in the US farmville market.
