Reports From FarmVille Live

Posted on April 17, 2010 11:03 pm by FarmVille Freak Dr. Green Thumb

Today’s FarmVille Live event turned out to be underwhelming according to several FarmVille Freaks. The FarmVille Live event was announced via FarmVille’s April 16th Podcast. The event was described as a promotional event that would offer lots of swag and an opportunity to be on camera. You can read below for some reviews from people who attended the event.

Were you able to make it to FarmVille Live? How was your experience?

“I took a ride over, only to find it was a bust. It was just a small storage shed with a few live farm animals behind a fence. We were there at 12:30, and there were fewer than 100 people. No giveaways, no nothin’. There was a line of people waiting to be “interviewed” about what they liked about FV. Uh…sorry, but no. I took 3 pics. “- FarmVille Freak TibbieMom

  1. gultus Says:

looks like they used the event to publicize other zynga games too. Look at the barn it has Cafe World written on it.

  2. farmergirl Says:

    wow, it does look lame.

  3. hi Says:

    VERYLAMEVERYLAMEVERYLAME

  4. farmergirl Says:

they could’ve at least dyed the animals different colors to liven it up, maybe handed out some free seeds :P

  5. Rob Gould Says:

    There’s a waste of a weekend

  6. Lola Says:

    lol okay fail

  7. Idk Says:

    boooo :P

  8. jo funny.onion Says:

Very disappointing. At the very least they could have had a baby tiger and 300 blue hay bales. Sheeesh!

  9. FarmGoddess Says:

Based on the video, this event does look kinda fail, with the exception of those baby goats. c u t e .

  10. Coronado Says:

Was sad i couldn’t go even tough i live 10 mins away , but it looks really boring

  11. em Says:

I never realised how boring farmville really is till you see something like that were people are just gawking at animals and a bloody barn… If they were trying to promote fv that was an epic fail.

  12. Rob Gould Says:

No real Farmville fans were there, they were to busy farming.LOL
Was anyone from Zynga or Farmville even there?
It looked like there was an animal handler and that’s about all.
Were we expecting anything from a company that has problems w/ half their games?

  13. farmergirl Says:

honestly, they lie to us about the game, we shouldn’t be surprised that they would hype this up. what swag? just more empty promises, this time in the real world, not just the virtual one :) i hope nobody drove for hours to get there.

  14. Rob Gould Says:

What city was this huge flop in?

  15. Nesha25 Says:

Wow! I thought I was missing something big all thw way over here on the east coast. They could have at least handed out a few $10 farm cash cards to the younger gamers who play. Or have the kids take a pic with some farm animals or have a bunny for them to pet. Come Zynga, with millions the of gamers yall have you could show your appreciation a little more. :(

  16. leiam Says:

i would like 2 o their im an animal love so that wouldnt be a total waste of time and did anyone see the brown bunny in the background possibly future farmville brown rabbit

  17. marty Says:

I was also there around 12:30. I talked to one of the farmville staffers who was handing out the release forms. She said that as far as she knew the only swag was available only for those who were interviewed on camera. I also heard that the wait for interviews was already over two hours.

In addition to the cafe world sign on the ‘barn’ they had a ‘poker table’ set out along one side advertising znga poker.

Fortunately, little kids are harder to disappoint and there were a lot of small children admiring the baby animals, but the kids were all in the mall anyway.

Kinda glad I had other reasons to be in Milpitas. Would have been a wasted hour to go over there and come back just to be disappointed by Zynga.

  18. leiam Says:

dam i suck at spelling the o is supose 2 b go and lov is supose 2 b lover

  19. l;alla Says:

i really wish they give us free game cards

  20. Yaniv Sims Says:

wow people the jealousy in this thread is just overwhleming !!!
i think it was very nice to go out and meet new people and everything

go to a shrink to solve your endless hostile feelings !

  21. samANDanne Says:

Well I wouldnt of gone to that if they payed me :\ Woo, a tool shed in the middle, with a couple animals. You can tell that was planned within a hour. And its only like 25% farmville, they have more ads for their other games than farmville :\

  22. Jade Says:

They didn’t promote the event for long enough a couple of days is not enough to let people plan their weekend. A ton more people would have gone if they offered an exclusive item or animal for going.

  23. Sarah Says:

Lame? What did you expect? Its a farm!!

  24. Beka Says:

They could have done a lot better if they’d invited FFA or 4-H to attend the event and help them. They could have made it into an education event. And you should ALWAYS have something to give away at events like this… REAL seed packets with FV written on them would have been an awesome, and simple idea. It would give people something, AND continue to advertise.

Dying the animals colors would have been dumb. But it would have been nice to see sheep there. Maybe not a baby tiger, but there are other exclusive items such as donkies, or deer, that may have been more do-able.

They should plan an event for Eastern States Expedition. They would fit in very well there.

  25. stephanie Says:

    wait whats swag?

  26. Skip Says:

Yes, it was lame. Yes, it was last minute. Yes, it could have been handled a lot better. But I have to believe it was a last minute idea just to test the waters and see what would happen. First of all, sorry Milpitas, but it’s just about the last place on earth where you’d want to launch any kind of campaign. Second, there was too little lead time for anyone to take it very seriously. And third, there was no ‘event’… just some people going on camera.

I’m betting we see those people on a commercial, and I’ll bet the commercial looks like there were thousands of people at a huge event.

    Just a guess…

  27. LaurFarmer Says:

swag is another word for “free stuff”, essentially

  28. Orange Tabby Says:

I read all the comments, but didn’t see what they actually DID give away in the “swag bags” that people got. What was in there if not Farm Cash or seeds? FarmVille bumper stickers, and junk like that?

  29. Henry Says:

I wouldn’t have flown out from Colorado for that, but the goats look adorable! I noticed the brown bunny too–probably the one they were SUPPOSED to release on Easter.

  30. Sarah Says:

I came to the event. I live in San Jose, CA only 5 minutes away from my house. The live event wasn’t really live, it was more of a petting zoo but most animals we’re not to be touched or fed. They should have sold goat food for us to feed but nope. Most people at the mall we’re teenagers just shopping, none of them cared about farmville. They should have made this event at a real farm or a market place, not a shopping area.

  31. Drew Says:

im shocked.. Farmville is so huge and that it was a bust is such a disappointment! I think they should have one in Philly. Maybe give out tshirts or even some farmcash

  32. Trouty Says:

Apparently no swag at all, well a cube of post it notes for those who were interviewed. LMAO. I guess Zynga got an out of sync error when watching the ‘How to impress your customers’ video.

  33. JacksonJawbreaker Says:

To the two people all excited about the brown rabbit seen in the video, it has already been released a long time ago.

  34. farmer_chris Says:

    So disappointing……

Maybe next year they should give away esclusive items and FarmCash and BUMPER STICKERS!!! :D

(Yeah, I would fly all the way just for Bumper stickers XD)

They should have more exotic animals next time too.

    -Farmer Chris

  35. SuperAwesomeFarmerT Says:

Some of you people cannot be pleased. What did yall want a circus of animals in the mall? Zynga is a company that is trying to make money like everyone else in this world and yall want everything for free and extravagant. Grow up and stop complaining about ever little thing Zynga does.

  36. Sealy Says:

yeah it was totally no good, not enough interaction, and where was lex? LEX where are you?

  37. TODD Says:

I was at this event standing directly behind that girl on the bail. Im gonna tell you it was the lamest thing ever and to top it off broken leg Zynga dork as we call him was hella rude . There was like 100 people there it was stupid.

  38. StrawberrySupreme Says:

I give them props for trying this out, but I hope their Marketing team really learns from this. Pretty sure they’re capable of bigger and better things.

But seriously, I’d like to see some Pygmy Goats in FarmVille, now.

  39. GUCCI Says:

Is this mall in China town? Did you see the Chinese Cowboy at the 2:30 mark LOL!

  40. DerekCorn Says:

They shuold at least have giveaways.. for example, Farmville key chains or stickers, stubbie holders

  41. KABEYGPATSKED Says:

    that sucks.

  42. Taurigal Says:

That was a good try, Zynga. I know what it takes to put something together like this, and it turned out nice. Kudos! Unfortunately, I think people were expecting a little more due to the build up before the event. Where were all the things that make Farmville so great? Where was the ability for attendees to display their creativity, their skill in farming, their neighborliness? A few active participation games, with Farmville items (both virtual and actual) for prizes, might have helped. You needed something that drew people in, just like the online game does. After all, you can’t love Farmville just by watching it – you have to play it. And just for the record, how many of those goats escaped via the hay pile/mountain? And I hope the mafia didn’t show up, looking for their tractors. All in all though, it really was a good try Zynga.

  43. Jerry in Milpitas Says:

I was there too. I thought the set was probably a left over booth from a video games business show. Very little interaction with the crowd who came there to see Farmville in the flesh. I couldn’t tell the Zynga people from the animal wranglers (rented animals BTW). That guy who was speaking on camera didn’t seem to know anything about Farmville or the setup there …. was he a hired actor??? He did a bunch of takes to get it right but I still don’t think he belonged there.

Big issue with me was lack of giveaway stuff. Some kind of identifiable handout items were needed badly.

Pretty much a non-event. What was the point? Anyway I’m of the same viewpoint as that sulky turkey.

  44. UNICORN1 Says:

@Yaniv #20, Not sure if you are intelligent enough to notice that you are complaining about people complaining “kinda the pot calling the kettle black” eh?? These farmers have a right to be disappointed, from what I can see thats just Zynga way of using the people who play there game for advertising, someone mentioned a release form, no doubt that means that with a lot of editing they would be using the video to make more money. MARK PINKUS AND ZYNGA ARE JUST GREEDY BASTARDS!!, THEY DON’T NEED TO CHARGE FARMERS FOR FARM CASH, BECAUSE MOST OF THEIR REVENUE COMES FROM THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS THEY HAVE ON LOGGING IN ON A MONTHLY BASIS AND HOW LONG EACH PLAYER SPENDS ON THE GAME, WHY DO YOU THINK THEY HAVE ALL THE CROSS PROMOTIONS WITH THEIR OTHER GAMES. HECK THEY GIVE YOU A SEAGUL THAT IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOU A “TREASURE” AND IT GIVES YOU 8 COINS, WHEN I SEE SOMETHING THAT IS LIMITLESS IN ZYNGA STORE FOR 8 COINS OR LESS, I WILL CONSIDER IT A TREASURE. SO YOU CAN DO ALL THE ASS KISSING YOU WANT, BUT EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINION ABOUT THE GAME AND EVENTS, YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT YOU READ, STOP READING THE COMMENTS. FUTHERMORE PLS, LOOK UP THE WORD “JEALOUSLY” SINCE I DON’T THINK IT APPLIES HERE.

ps: EVEN IF SOMEONE NEVER PURCHASED A $1 OF fVC THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE ANNOYED CAUSE WE THE ONES PLAYING ARE THE ONES THAT MAKES ZYNGA MONEY SO THEY SHOULD BE KISSING OUR ASSES INSTEAD.

  45. Jen Says:

This was lame. They only let certain people in who “fit their desired demographic”. If you weren’t picked you got nothing and could do nothing but look over the fence.

  46. L.D. in San Jose Says:

In response to the comments made about Farmville Live, April 17th.. I was there, I was interviewed ( and in response to previous comment, NO I am not an actor) and I did get a Farmville T-Shirt. I wanted the hat, but they had already given them away. I have lots of pictures, including one of the t-shirt. I agree, they should have been passing out tokens (fv cash or coins) to redeem, like the farmville cards, but only gave something to those they interviewed. The set up was as good as you could expect, being in the center of a mall. They did have ALL of the Sygna game logos posted all around the scene as promotion. The employees were very, very friendly, considering they were being mobbed by those who wanted to be interviewed. I personally, had to stand next to one woman (who you can see in the orange t-shirt in video) who did nothing but complain about and to the employees the entire time. It is no wonder they did not interview her, it was suppose to be an enjoyable experience. I arrived at 12:15 and was walking back to my car by 1:30 with t-shirt in hand, I was happy. Thanks Farmville.

  47. Yu Ma Ma Says:

They advertised that there would be “swag” available for those who attended. Those of you who attended and didn’t get anything need to file formal complaints with the State Attorney General’s office where Zynga held this FAIL. Slapping Zynga with a few hefty fines for false advertising will put a quick end to their scamming. Those of you who got burned need to show some guts and file grievances. Most State AG’s don’t put up with scams like this, and they’re more than happy to bitchslap scam artists like Zynga around for screwing over those they’re elected and sworn to protect.

  48. April Says:

I don’t really appreciate zynga having a poker game and advertising a poker table when the event seemed like the draw was the children with the petting zoo…

  49. VW Says:

I went there to check it but was so disappointed with what it turned out to be. Luckily I only drove 10 minutes to get there. and hey I was surprised to see myself in the video above :D

  50. Ashley K Says:

I drove and hour and a half to get there with the promise of challenges and free swag. I decided to get interviewed to get a shirt, so I did not leave empty handed. It seems it was not well thought out and could have been so much more fun. They could have at least had a drawing for free farm cash. Its not like it costs them a thing. Thet wanted free promotion from their fans. I am sure a lot of people left disappointed. I was one of the first people there and I still had to wait my turn after the different “demographics” went before me, one after another. Oh well. At least I got a shirt. :) Maybe it will be better next time.
