Zynga Stands Strong About FarmVille Donations for Haiti Earthquake Relief
In the past few days Zynga has been accused of misleading players regarding the FarmVille Haiti Earthquake Relief campaign.
A Brazilian newspaper and blog claimed that Zynga did not give all of proceeds to the charity. Gawker.com also investigates the same claims. However, there seems to be some confusion surrounding the controversy that has to do with misinformed outlets with very little FarmVille experience.
As a FarmVille player it was clear to me that with the first Sweet Seeds for Haiti campaign (prior to Earthquake) that 50% of the proceeds would benefit Haiti, as it was precisely stated by Zynga. With the second campaign for Haitian Earthquake Relief (after earthquake), Zynga promised to give 100% of proceeds to benefit Haiti.
Purchasing the virtual good of the White Corn seeds was the way in which FarmVille farmers donated to the Haiti Earthquake relief. Upon purchasing or donating, you were given the option to choose the amount you wanted to donate for your seeds, with a minimum purchase of 25 FV$ or farm cash.
Saying that Zynga promised to give 100% and only gave 50% is a misconception of words and an apparent lack of FarmVille knowledge, as there were two completely separate FarmVille Haiti donation campaigns.
You can read one article about the controversy including Zynga’s response here:
Gawker.com – ”Scam-Trafficking Games Company Insists Its Haiti Charity Was Not a Scam Too”
What do you think? As a FarmVille Freak were you confused about the donations for the FarmVille Haiti Earthquake Relief campaign?

I agree with the above post and feel like I have been posting all day about this defending Zynga! I love that they were donating money to Haiti before the earthquake!

no, i was not confused at all. it was very clear that the first one was 50% and this last one was 100%

I feel the information provided by Zynga for the Haiti campaigns was completely clear, concise and NEVER misleading. I contributed to both campaigns and I applaud Zynga.

Zynga doesn’t really “donate” anything, the money come from the FV players who purchased the sweet seeds. The company also gets big tax cuts because of this phony “donation”.

Agree with the post. I was under no illusion about the 1st campaign. Was fully aware that 50% of proceeds would got to Haiti, and the other 50% to Zynga’s pockets. For 2nd campaign, am firmly of the belief that Zynga forwarded the full amount donated by its players towards the Haiti earthquake fund.
Misleading? What misleading? More like some people are quick to skim information and sensationalise half-truths.

Whether or not theyr promised 50% or 100% shouldn’t be the issue. I want to know how much MONEY they gave for the second campaign. Surely over 1 millions since the power bar was a reward for surpassing that.

I really hope Zynga did the right thing and donated what the promises. Yes, I knew they said they were gonna donate 50 the first time and 100 the second, but did they actually donate that amount? I sure hope so. However, how do we really know? I believe that this is why a lot of people will not donate to charities, b/c they don’t know exactly where the money is going and for what or even exactly how much of it. The fact is that those who donated did it out of the goodness of their hearts so even if Zynga did not use it for what they said, which I don’t know if they did or not, then this will come back on Zynga if they were misleading. I feel like the ones that donated will be blessed regardless of what Zynga used it for b/c they donated believing it was going for a good cause. I think now that Chille has had an earthquake they need to do the same donation thing for them. Yet, what I am afraid of is that with this neg. publicity that they will not want to do it again. I am gonna give Zynga the benefit of the doubt until I know for sure one way or the other and I will continue to donate til I know one way or the other, what I am mad about is what Zynga has done with Fishville that should be more of a concern right now than something that has not be substantiated.
