Zynga Responds, Recent Subscription Rumor is Not True!
Yesterday on FarmVilleFreak.com we posted an email we received from a fellow FarmVille Freak claiming that Zynga’s FarmVille would end it’s beta days and start charging a subscription service fee to play. Some of you wondered why we would post a rumor like this on FarmVille Freak even though we never claimed it to be true. Instead of validating this rumor, we have dispelled it by getting an official Zynga response.
Email reads below:
“ ATTENTION: Zynga has announced that as of March 31, 2010 FarmVille will no longer be available in it’s Beta version. The game will be available for a subscription fee of $5.99 per month and will include additional levels above 70 . . . “
On Monday, Zynga responded to this rumor and verifies that it is comletely false. Repeat, the rumor is NOT true! In an article posted on CNET , Zynga denied the move to subscription at the end of March.
Currently revenue from FarmVille is based on the purchasing of virtual goods. Although, not every player purchases farm cash and many users enjoy playing the game for free. A big move like this would end the days of playing for free and would also possibly lose a considerable portion of the 75 million internet farming community.
So what do you think Zynga’s next step will be for life after FarmVille Beta?

Farmville Freak was mentioned on Cnet! Whoo Hoo! This is the place to be for Farmville news for sure! Who else could have gotten Zynga to fess up the truth.

They will do what they did with Mafia Wars, keep it going until people stop playing & if they do delete everyone farms after the beta I bet all the people in the beta would receive something from playing it like free fvcash or items from the beta or they can keep all of there items they payed for.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 1:50 pm
I am happy about that.

good heaven they will not do that, if they would do that they would lose millions of players and that would be a major blow for them
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:26 pm
Well obviously..
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:28 pm
You almost gave me a heart attack!!
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:32 pm
I dunno, I kind of liked the idea that there would be higher levels…I am at level 70 and there is really just nothing to look forward to. Ive done all of the acheivements except the new one.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:35 pm
OK if they would do this farmville would loose so many players and I bet none of my friends would pay for it .But do you think that it’s a little unfair that all the new animals and some buildings can be purchased only with FV cash? So I really hope there will be a feature to exchange our coins with cash like 1000 coins=1 cash that would be great
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:35 pm
I think there gonna make higher levels anyway..
I heard there thinking of doing it in the future. They will. Just hope they will soooon!
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 2:58 pm
I dont trust them one bit, they wouldnt have signed with MSN if they didnt plan on doing this. Why would they be giving us all the opportunities to use extra XP from the valentines and from the eggs and the XP from farm helping? Why would they want to help us level faster if they were staying beta? Its all a ploy to keep us “addicted”and for the ones who are high level an opportunity to level even higher and entice them with a maybe not so annoying game minus the beta format. I was one of them that they messaged “we feel your level was harder so we have decided to level you up” BUT WHERE WAS MY FV DOLLAR FOR THAT LEVEL after I worked the 75% of it?We already know they have been working on getting away from facebook and they are “testing” alot of elements for the game. I personally think they would shoot themselves in the foot if they did it because I really think they would have to start from square one after they lose a huge percent of their audience, but that has not mattered to them up until now anyway. I guess we will see in the future (near) and it will be interesting to catch them in another lie after he swore to the press they were not changing. (im sure he meant.. we are not changing ON MARCH 31).

Pay to play? Thanks God! One quick way to get out of this addiction!!!!
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Woo! That’s awesome because I would have stopped playing for sure if I had to pay.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Obviously! That would have been disastrous if they did try to make people pay to play. I would feel bad for all those farmers that randomly buy farm cash, because if you would have not been willing to pay the fee, you would have been out of the forgone money you already invested in this game.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 4:04 pm
It’s quite amazing at what people will BELIEVE, even though it is VERY obvious that what they are reading is a LIE made up by some lonely loser craving attention.
I wish someone would do this:
Make some website claiming that breathing air/oxygen will kill you, and in order to survive…you need to STOP BREATHING!
How many people would die from this? I’m betting a few would.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 4:13 pm
I’m so glad as i have already paid way more into this game than i would normally on any game, in fact, this is the only game i have paid real money into and would not appreciate having to pay even more. I love the animals and trees.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 pm
when does the new mystery box comes out
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 5:21 pm
“So I really hope there will be a feature to exchange our coins with cash like 1000 coins=1 cash that would be great”
There already is (for anyone below level 70.) It’s 950,000 coins=1 FV cash.
Here is how that works.
Accumulate 1M coins.
Clear a 4×3 plot of land.
Buy villa.
Level up (congrats–1FC! Villa=10,000XP)
Sell villa, reaping 50K coins profit.
Voila…950,000 coins=1FC.
BTW this is a great way to use extra coins if you have no use for them and plant profitable crops. I buy and then resell one about every two weeks or so just to burn through my extra coins.

@Erica
So..do you have to buy a Villa every time.?
You buy a villa then sell it.? then you get 1 Farm Cash.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 6:15 pm
I have nearly 3.5 million coins and it would be fantastic to be able to exchange some of those coins for FV cash. Yes 1,000 coins for 1 FV cash? Sounds good to me!
Am very happy we are not going to be charged to play, otherwise I would have to opt out.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Surprised you have not made any mention of the outage at FV.com which refers one to FV on FB. Claim is scheduled maintenance and has been down for at least 3 hours. Wonder if this has anything to do with some changes coming tomorrow, given that almost all the specials expire today/tomorrow. Any guesses? yip yip woof…
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 7:31 pm
it really shud b 50k coins per cash ..more reeasonable
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 7:43 pm
I have been so close to purchasing farmcash for a certain virtual item but up till this moment have yet to pay. If they make it subscription I will definitely stop playing. Then the temptation would be gone. BTW, I one for bringing back the pink pony. Even if they got rid of all the glitches it would not be worth paying a subscription fee. To many other games to play for free.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 7:47 pm
i too am level 70 now just doing the mastery then after that , i have no clue. now since ive work my butt to have to pay ya right i think not. good on zynga for not following the greed train just the gravy train lol
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 7:59 pm
MooMooMoo-
If you try to send gifts it tells you that you can’t and to try back tomorrow at 3pm. Maybe it will be down longer.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 8:19 pm
Good grief, this rumor again… only slightly different? The exact same PM message has been floating around, spamming FB users for months only replace Farmville with Facebook and how FB is suddenly going to start charging by the month. I think I’ve seen 3 different versions of it now and people STILL fall for it.
I googled it and that spam junk has been floating around for better part of a year in one incarnation or another.

Yeah, I dunno. I kinda hope they go to subscription only for after level 70 players. I mean, if it’s only five or so bucks a month…’s pittance. The hours of enjoyment FV gives fully justify the money. If the fee leads to more a more stable game…have at it. If you really don’t have five bucks to throw at something you spend hours doing…that time should be spent looking for a job.
I’m pretty sure they’re working their way towards something like this…as they should. It’s a business venture. It should be turning a profit. It was never meant to be a public service.
Posted on February 22nd, 2010 at 10:30 pm
I don’t think subscription is the way to go and Znga knows that. The game plan is to get people buying items with FV cash and their recent moves confirm that. I’m level 39 and already there is little incentive for me to level up …the ribbons that are left are ‘They of Mystery’ which requires FV and ‘Egg-cellent Discovery’ which is determent by an algorithm and not by my game play…my farm is saturated to a point where I start selling off stuff, I don’t want or need everything x 500. The new items introduced are mostly for FV cash and by upgrading players to higher levels, they are cheating them out of the already little FV cash that can be earned.
In my opinion, Zynga is going the FV cash way…. soon everything but the basics will require a credit card.

Sheri said, “I am at level 70 and there is really just nothing to look forward to.”
Sheri, I’m also at level 70, and I’m having LOADS OF FUN helping others in the FarmvilleFreak Forums (giving the gifts they request, fertilizing their crops, feeding their chickens, helping them with barn raising, etc.) I’m having more fun now helping others than I ever did when I was “leveling up.”
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 6:38 am
Hi all, anyone know if you still get FV after level 70? cos I am not
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 8:26 am
people simply posting “first” without a relevant comment is plain unnecessary and annoying
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 11:36 am
Zynga might not be charging, but it appears that Facebook is gearing up to force you to buy “credits” for gaming, etc….
Anyone know anything about that??
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 11:36 am
Get over it Therlo. It is an internet in-joke, a “meme,” a kind of “secret handshake.”
I’ve been to internet/software conventions where the first person up is only allowed to say “1st.” It can be really hilarious.
Seriously, what are you, like 80? Do you go around yelling at kids to “git off yer lawn” too?
This is a freaking game. Let kids have their fun.
Cranks like you are just plain unnecessary and annoying.
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 11:37 am
Oh, and #38 get! LOL
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 am
zynga is worth 3 mld $, and if they charge to play fv the price of zynga would be a LOT lot smaller..
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 11:59 am
it’s not a rumor… it’s true, Zynga denied but they are lieing about it…
just like they have been ripping people off money and saying it’s not them that it’a a third party company and that they are not responsible…
well it’s on your web page zynga so you are sponsoring it…
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 at 9:24 pm
I would pay the subscription fee, but if we were required to pay it then there should be no farm cash so everything should be for coins
Posted on February 25th, 2010 at 1:06 am
We already have to spend FV cash on alot of the new released items in the market. Theres is aways a new app to play that is free. Farmville is very fun and addictive. So was My heroes ability and that died very fast due to no updates a year ago. While Farmville is free i will continue to play but i am waiting for the day they want even more money out of me and then its over. I will move over to something else free, like the rest of the world also will do. Oh there will always be fans and there will be a small 10,000 that will pay. A short fall from the millions playing now.
I don’t think they will risk losing too many people. Cafe world is slowly dying… Petville is slowly dying….Don’t make the same mistake as other apps have over the years Zynga. You are not that cool to charge to play. The game isn’t that good. Its a great free game which i love don’t get me wrong, but people are fickle and when people do leave the games they leave in droves. Out of my 30-40 friends only 10 are active users. Out of that group only 2 people have purchased FV cash to buy extra items. You do the maths.
So for the time it remains free. Woo hoo Farmville freaks. We Rock!
Anyway it must be time for something new to pop up that is free and with better programming.
Again – Don’t be greedy Zynga!!! You make enough money from the people that don’t mind buying FV cash on a whim. Don’t make us do anything.
a Farmville freak.

I would probably play it if they were to say something like $5.99/per month and 20 Farm Cash included each month. Or give another incentive like that.. Not just new features but give those who decide to stay and pay a bonus for being loyal.. Also, the majority of those that voted say they won’t play if Zynga charges, but so many say they are FV Addicts – if this is true, you can probably only count on 1/2 to 3/4 of those “NO!” answers being accurate. Many times I have said that I “would not, absolutely positively (absotively positutely he he) pay” for something that was free previously, but I can be a sucker just like everyone else. If i enjoy something enough, I will pay for it. You pay for the video games on xBox, PS, Wii, etc. Maybe with that in mind, if Zynga were ever to consider charging, they should do a one time fee – unlimited access based – option (as an alternative to the monthly, yearly, etc) charge for like $20 or $30. That way the loyalists don’t feel they are getting robbed for being loyal and sticking around. Oh well, those are just my thoughts. I’ll get off my soap box now…

Oh and forgot to say I agree with Klinton #31 up there – It’s a business venture, was never meant to be a public service. Granted they should make it worth-while for the farmers but they started and continue this effort as a business, an effort to support their families etc. People don’t just sit down and write tons of html, java or whatever code for fun. Well some do, but not for an elaborate gaming experience like this. People that write gaming codes for this extent of elaborate game play, they go to college to learn it, or read tons of expensive manuals, or spend tons of hours/months/years hands on developing their abilities. They have vested interest in what monetary value their skills bring forth. (They aren’t the popular stereotype people – they are not a whole bunch of girlfriend-less geeks that spend 24/7 on their computers and do all of their consumerism online.) They are people just like you and I, with husbands/wives, children/pets, brothers/sisters, houses, cars, bills, credit cards etc. They get paid to do it and if Zynga doesn’t bring in money some how, their employees start going with out a pay check and the next thing you know, they’re getting laid off. We may say “don’t be greedy Zynga!” but we should also consider saying “don’t be greedy Neighbors!”

Hey i have a doubt……Do we get FV CASH after LEVEL 70 or not
Posted on July 26th, 2010 at 4:24 am
that’s a bit mean for the people who arent old enough to PAY for farmville but like it don’t you think?
-
i’m old enough and i’m not against paying for games i enjoy either, but Zynga do to many nice things for cash only customers and screw the free ones. It would be better if they just made everything so it can be bought with either cash or fake currency….but not so it costs like 100000gold for something that costs 12cash like in cafe world, that **** sucks
Posted on April 2nd, 2011 at 2:03 am
Um… DUH! Its obvious after reading the email that its not true..lol.. Did you not see where it plainly says:
“and will include additional levels above 70 ”
Everyone already knows that the levels go above 70 lmao.
