Q: Is it just me or are the Cottages smaller? My Donkey is now bigger than my Cottage! (FarmVille Freak Scott)
A: Yesterday many FarmVille Freaks noticed that some of their buildings were significantly made smaller.
With Tuesday’s updates, the Cottages and Green House were scaled down.
Here are some comparison pics below:

Hmmm …
I didn’t notice my cottages being any smaller… but i’ll have to go back and look at them.
Wonder if they are doing that, instead of allowing us to increase the size of our farms. *POUT*

UPDATE:
I just checked my farm and doggone it!!!! My cottages are smaller. So much for all the landscaping I did… I have to do it all over again. GRR!
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
i dont mind, as long as they don’t change fence sizes, that’ll really mess me up.
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:25 pm
i noticed that a few days ago…
can we have pics of the smaller greenhouse?
btw,
i still don’t understand the upcoming FarmVille Farmer’s Market…
can anyone explain that to me?
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:27 pm
I think they made the avatar smaller too
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
psht, zanga you are lame, stop making things smaller. just give us a land upgrade to 26×26. my person cant fit in the house anymore, where is he suppose to sleep?
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Does that mean that the French Farmhouse may be made bigger? Or the provencal pots smaller?
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
no i don’t like this ..
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
The Farmer’s Market, from what I understand, will be (hopefully a building with purpose, as we have too few of those) a place where you can sell / auction your own items. So, say you buy a couple mystery boxes and get a duplicate of a rare item. You may only want one of those, so what are you going to do with that other one? Just let it sit in your storage, wasting space? That’s what we have to do now. Hopefully with the Farmer’s Market, we will be able to set a Coin Price on that item, and our neighbors will be able to visit our market, see what we have for sale, and purchase it. This is just what I’ve gathered from reading and I have no idea if it is true, so hopefully some of this will actually come to exist in FV. This game has such potential to be amazing, we’re just lacking those major updates.
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
Greenhouses look the same. At least they match the scale of the other buildings a little better now.
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
Don’t like at all….all of my friends have noticed. We’ve all been wondering if this was a glitch, or, if it was on purpose? If it was intentional….well….would have been nice to have a warning or something…especially for those of us that have done extensive landscaping and/or themes. The Cottages, especially, look more like little Doll Houses now….or, childrens Play Cottages. (Including the new Maison….the Flax goes above the roofline when placed next to the door! Beautiful new building….very poor scale!) Very poor call on FV’s part to change the scale on the Cottages without warning. Unless of course, this was a glitch…in which case, seriously hope they correct before too many farmers modify their farms!
Would also like to add that FV has a good thing. A Number One rated game….will really be disappointed, to say the least, if they bring the game down instead of up. While Alice in Wonderland is cute…..is it really Farming? hmmmmm……don’t want to see FV look too much like some of their other games….you know….toooooooo cutesy? I hope you all know what I mean………..I have more adults playing than children…so, I suppose it depends on who they are targeting their audience towards??
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
OH! I was wondering why none of my flowers or decorations seemed to fit as well anymore! I moved all my cottages around but the space just doesn’t look as full because they’re not just smaller in footprint – they’re also SHORTER!
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
I don’t think my head will even fit through the door to my cottage anymore.
Now what am I gonna do?
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
IT are smaller..!!!…..I think it’s better .. more space
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
I don`t mind them being smaller since that will take up less space, however my problem is that now my mail box etc. are almost as big as the cottage!!!! its really not proportioned properly. and of course the fact that i had to re-arrange everything was very very annoying
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 10:52 pm
I don’t find it THAT big of a deal. xD
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 11:09 pm
I think since golden eggs have been laying these cottages a lot lately, everyone has tons of them on their farm, so its kind of a good idea to shrink them. More room for other thngs.
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 11:23 pm
First, let me say that I’m a fan of FV. However…
I’m disappointed in the scaled down version. The reindeer now tower the cottages. It looks rediculous. I’ve always hated the scale of a lot of the things on the farm. It looks too off. Like the horses in the stable compared to the horse outside of the stable. Same with the cows and most other things. You would think that the person living in one of the houses on this game would be opening their doors to a 12 foot chicken. I don’t really care what size they want something to be, as long as everything else is scaled up or down to look cohesive with each other.
That’s just my $0.02
Posted on March 17th, 2010 at 11:27 pm
if they want to make one thing smaller they should make everything smalller!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 12:24 am
I agree Geo! It’s all not proportionate! The cottages are way too small now, they look dumb in comparison to other things. Even landscaping doesn’t fit right anymore. Things were just fine. Instead, they should have simply offered more land! DAmmit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so mad @ this. Really!
But as mentioned before, I’m still venting, I’m even madder that my green shamrock house I bought for 34FV shrunk too. I would like a partial refund! The Maison does look too little too. I think it’s all screwd up. Not happy here.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:01 am
compared to this, the bakery is really giant – looks so stupid – are they more like garden sheds now
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:12 am
dont mind ive already sold all my cottages anyway as i dont have any room.. come on zynga expand the farms
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:26 am
I know what everyone means about the house being so small my stone mail box is bigger then the windows… doesn’t look right…. the door is small.. someone said Alice in Wonderland i mean its cute but not for a farm….FV just needs to keep it simple… even that bread cart is bigger then the house… so i hope they fix it…
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 2:17 am
I agree with everyone and I hope they change the size of the bread cart I want to put it on my farm but it is not drawn to scale at all. They fixed the bistro table hopefully they will correct everything else. I am a little upset about my shamrock farmhouse after paying 34 fv cash.
A warning on last weeks FV podcast would have been nice because then we would have known it was coming and it would not have to been such a shock that we were forced to fix our farms. Now our storage will be even more full as we try to accomodate.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 2:56 am
The log cabin is definitely smaller as well. And I’m betting some of the other buildings suddenly shrank too. Quite upsetting. Let’s hope it’s a bug and Zynga will fix it. UGH
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 3:10 am
The cottages are too small for my taste. No..I don’t like the smaller cottages, but …now that I stored the smaller cottages (because they are way too small) I “do” like having all the extra space.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 4:11 am
omg i don’t like! i spend my 8 hours of sleep on a farm layout and have to redo it a million times to get the perfect one and then my cottage change size and everything is wj63or5vyc53orbfyru4beit3vdmc. GAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 4:12 am
I really hate this change.
I had to buy a couple of new cottages and decorations in order to get my farm back to normal! (well, to look appropriate again)
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 5:47 am
Alice in Wonderland indeed. Looks stupid.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 5:58 am
Err, no. It looks stupid.
The huge scaling discrepancies are one of the most awkward things in farmville, and this just made them much worse.
I -did- like them changing the footprints of items that were too small for the space they took up. I liked that better than I like new expansions, even, because it made decorating/landscaping easier. But this fits neither of those bills, and doesn’t seem useful at all, rather the opposite of what they should be doing.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 6:16 am
What they really need to scale down is that carrier pigeon house. It’s so huge!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 6:31 am
The cottages are so tiny that I have already sold off several and am getting rady to sell off the rest of them. They are un-usable. Too bad, I have had a minimum of 2 pink cottages on my farm since I started. The farmhouse is also visably smaller, (might now do as a cottage replacement.) The maison is very pretty but so, so small. What a dissapointment. Here is my issue and new resolve:
I have spent over 100 real USA dollars on farm cash this year. (That is fine with me, I don’t smoke, drink or spend money on drugs.) However, I spent 37 FC on the shamrock cottage which now is just as useless as the other cottages!
Farmville should realize that many people play this game because they like to decorate. Period. If these people cannot make a pretty farm, they will cut back on the decorations if not discontinue play and go back to decorating somewhere else. I am resolved to NO LONGER SPEND ANY REAL LIFE MONEY TO PURCHASE FARMCASH. I will make due with what I have and the farmcash that I earn. My joy is gone.
Yes, I would have posted my thoughts at the official FarmVille site, but couldn’t figure out how to post. Hope someone from FarmVille moniters this site!

My cottage is so small. It’s very bad..
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 7:55 am
I’ve noticed that my cottages got smaller aswell. But what I was wondering is, when you buy a cottage from the market now will they be small? or will they still be the same size?
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 8:00 am
Also, I keep my mastery signs in front of my cottages and they are pretty much the same size! Which takes away from the appearance of the cottages! -Very frustrating!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 8:09 am
I agree exactly with Noel Marie. Well said. Except that I’ve got a much worse habit & have spent way more. Zynga should cater to people who love to decorate their farms, & take their needs & concerns into consideration more.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 9:04 am
The scale is wrong now. Bigger farm..same size buildings…and by the way….can you enlarge the bonsai plant I bought…I always lose it ..sooooo small
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 9:49 am
Additional thoughts: I agree with the FVCash spending, too. I’m level 53, have been playing for several months. Not only do I buy FVCash, but, buy for my neice and sometimes friends as well!!!! Won’t be doing that as much either unless Zynga acknowledges this travesty to the buildings we’ve all PAID for……………………………A little of my joy is gone, too! Daffodils and Wagon Wheel go up to the Second Floor of the Maison! It’s pretty awful. Just no words………And, the fact that I haven’t seen anything on Zynga’s forum acknowledging this as either a Mistake or on Purpose almost makes it worse! They’ve left us all in la-la-land wondering what the hec happened.

I will speak with the FarmVille team about this issue as soon as possible. I understand your frustration and I appreciate your patience with us during this time.

The issue being the smaller cottages .
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 10:16 am
The cottages should be renamed “play houses” to match their new size
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 10:32 am
Here’s a few pictures of how totally SiLLy these shrunken, scaled-down buildings look now:

Amazing…just amazing that they did this……….Especially amazing to all those that may have actually PAID FV Cash for the Maison…..ooops..I mean La Petite Maison.
sigh…..big big sigh…….

DISLIKE!!!!!!! My Leprechaun Gnomes are now as tall as my Maison!! STUPID CHANGES!!!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 11:32 am
This is one of the worst decisions that Farmville has made. Everything looks ridiculous now…the goats horns are above the maison roofline, outhouses are bigger (in proportion) to the cottages, the blue gnome comes above the rooflines, the animals are all out-of-proportion to the houses, and the flax looks like trees next to the cottages. The size of the breadcart is ridiculous, too. It’s bigger than the flower shed and fruit carts. Now, I like good, fresh bread, but if I eat all of that, I definitely won’t fit through any of the cottage doors! Why don’t they leave things alone? They need to put the cottages back to their original size! I agree with Ash that the cottages now look like playhouses.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Wow, now I’m really pissed. This is wrong. What an epic fail!
It’s true, if things are so disproportionate, there’s no point in decorating and therefore no point in spending money. CHANGE IT BACK, FV! Puhhhhhhhhh Leeeeeeeeeeeeze. Just change it back. I know you read FV Freak.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
Pls re-scale the pigeon carrier and the bread cart. They are bigger than the buildings in our farm.looks really weird!!
The cottages are fine being smaller…more room to plant trees and landscape around it.Re-scaling it bak will again spoil my whole landscaping.:(
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
In response to Noel Marie ( comment 31) and Trish (comment 33) I too spend some of my own money on farmville cash . . . . and looking at some of the decorations available for cash, it doesn’t represent value for money at all. 17 fv$ for a picnic basket for an example? The feed troughs & outhouses’s, things like this should be avalabie for coins, too high a price when people spend their own money on here!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Yes they have changed the sizes but if you have a mini green house it has not gotten any smaller and that goes for the rest of the buildings…yet.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
Meanwhile, my holiday lampost is ENORMOUS….I don’t know when that happened…it used to be the same size as the regular lampost.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
I must agree with the posts that say the cottages are too small. My farm is an entire community. The proportions were hard enough to deal with before this “update” happened. Barns are too big, accessories are too big… the French buildings are impossible to use in a “downtown” setting. The new maison is completely out of proportion with the barn. It will never work as a winery! Try adding the French Quarter Mardi Gras buildings to a downtown or a neighborhood! GAD ZOOKS! Something needs to change!! Rotating buildings, adjusting sizes, redoing proportions… something to make it more fun again.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
IM SO SICK OF ZYNGA BEING SO GREEDY!!!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK FOR THE MAISON BARN I BOUGHT AND YOU SHRUNK. IT ALL LOOKS RIDICULOUS NOW!!!! THIS WAS THE LAST PUSH I NEEDED FROM THE ZYNGA GREED MONSTERS!!!!! I bought alot of fv dollars and now you change what you originally sold me?????? YOU WONT GET ANOTHER DIME OUT ME NOW…….IM DONE!!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
I thought my sister went and rearranged my houses…. LOL
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 2:07 pm
I have no problem with the cottages shrinking but everything else should shrink too. For example the fences. It used to be that if you fenced in the cottage it would leave a small opening right in front of the cottage door. Now one fence piece is almost as long as the entire cottage. Please pick one scale and keep it.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
I think it’s a good thing. The cottages were not a good preportion related to other buildings for example the Bed & Breakfast. The one story cottage was bigger in footprint than the B& B…they looked silly next to each other. I think the cottages should be smaller. But they did something a little weird and you can’t put flowers right up next to them in the front anymore. That is a bummer…will have to make some changes for that. But that’s not a huge deal.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 2:10 pm
The Bed & Breakfast and Pagoda seem smaller too!
It could just be me, but I totally re-arranged my farm last Saturday and there is considerably more room now!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
lol joanne, your an idiot, you could’vr built one for hardly any coins..
you guys are the biggest frickin whiny bitches i’ve ever seen haha..
again, its FREEE entertainment and im sure they are working on scaling other things also to give people more room for stuff..
one step at a time..
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Mostly it’s the lack of warning/notification. Is this a Glitch? If so….we all sit tight till it’s fixed. If it was on purpose…..a notice would have been nice so everyones farms could be ready. Isn’t that what the Podcast is for? yes, it’s a Free Game….and, yes…they are a company which I respect quite a bit (would love to work for/with them!—but alas, they are on one coast and i’m on another! LOL) . Zynga has designed quite a good game—Award Winning…—and has quite a huge fan base. Making improvements is one thing……but this was lack-a-daisical at best and poor planning on their part….unless it was, of course, a Glitch. A Glitch…hey…that’s ok…I think we can all survive that as they are very good at fixing their software really. And, even as a Free Game…I’ve spent over $100 real dollars playing this cute little game. Huge advocat of the fact that when you average the cost of going to the movies, renting a movie, buying a play-station-type-game, eating out at a Fast Food place…well….you get the point. Huge inconvenience for everyone…the “not knowing”….and, for those that did spend real money on the game…..well…these are the “paying” customers that bought something and then *PooF* it’s something else.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 4:44 pm
To be fair, it’s not really a “free” game if you have to spend real world dollars while you’re using it. Zynga is making money because we spend it to play the game — that ain’t free. I hope they address the Incredible Shrinking Buildings issue. I don’t think many people are happy with it AT ALL (including me).
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
I had 3 cottages in storage (since my farm is mostly used for planting stuff), checked the new size, laughed a little bit and sold them… The thing they really need to scale down is the huge red barns. I have 4 of them plus 2 tool sheds and they take up a huge amount of space!
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
They’re probably in the middle of scaling down everything, which will take a little while. I appreciate the scaling down – once everything else is scaled to size, they won’t have a doll-house feel to them.
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
they better not scale down fences… all the people (like me) who stack fences and haybales and whatnot, would be SCREWED if that happened… the scale of things is a little off, but the shrinking buildings is just unacceptable
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 8:30 pm
I used this analogy to some friends today, and, they got a kick out of it. Sorta feels like this:
Let’s say I go buy a 2010 Honda Pilot and park it in my driveway.
Then, tomorrow morning, it’s gone and in it’s place is a Volkswagen Bug.
p.s. If you have finished La (petite) Maison…..and also have a Moose…place the Moose in front of the building. It’s a Tragic hoot………pitful…..
And, if they are planning a massive “ReScale” I think we should be forewarned….
Posted on March 18th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
Hey y’all!! Zynga has made the following statement (copied from the Zynga FarmVille Forum, #73)
Lexilicous has posted an update:
Hey guys,
Sorry for the delay, things have been a little crazy around here.
I finally managed to get some information from the developers about this issue.
The cottages being shrunk was not an intentional change. We will be reverting the cottages back to their original size very soon.
Please know that when the cottages return to normal size, any items you may have placed next to them might get overlapped.
If this happens, simply move your cottage and you will be able to access the items underneath it.
Should there be any additional information you need to be aware of, I will make sure to let you know.
Thanks for your patience, everyone.
Posted on March 20th, 2010 at 8:53 am
ok i agree. this is all really stewpid. 1 my carrier pidgeions are huge. 2 my cottage is shrunk. 3 maison is yes pretty but it looks like it was made for a lepercon. 4 alice in wonder land?!?! are u kidding? i think we’re all too old for that but it is cute. 5 horses are bigger then the one’s in the stable. please farmville please fix every thing
Posted on March 25th, 2010 at 5:51 am
Haahaahaa!! Now the human doens’t fit the house anymore! And the animals are way too big now! It’s kind of a mess really…
I like the idea of makeing things smaller but I do hope the shrinking is done to animals also.
