FarmVille 3 Spring Eggs Possible Spybot/Virus NOT true!

Posted on March 28, 2010 9:11 pm by FarmVille Freak FarmGoddess

UPDATE:  After investigating some external links provided on Facebook newsfeed, from our experience none of them contained viruses. We cannot confirm that any of these links themselves caused a virus. Of course it is a possibility that could happen, but we believe this is a rumor that is 100% NOT true.

UPDATE #2:  3 Spring Eggs Links are no longer working.

Some FarmVille Freak users have reported that after clicking on a Facebook newsfeed of what they thought was a link to the 3 Spring Eggs Gifting, it turned out to be a virus, not related to FarmVille. These links were re-post “ads” provided by other Facebook users, not affiliated with FarmVille.

Our intention of posting this on FarmVille Freak is to inform  you and bring awareness that there could be a possible virus with malicious parties posting fake links. We are NOT confirming this rumor as true and are waiting on an official Zynga response.

The important thing to remember, is to please be wary of any links that you click on especially by those provided by non-FarmVille related group pages. Do not install any unknown applications after clicking on links.

Not all the 3 Spring Eggs links contain viruses, the ones that originate from FarmVille are legitimate links to the Gifting Page. Legitimate  FarmVille links should begin like this:       http://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/gifts*

Note: This possible virus is NOT associated with the 3 Spring Eggs links that we posted on FarmVille Freak earlier this week.

Here is an explanation of the “bad” 3 Spring Eggs links as experienced by FarmVille Freak William,

“Good Evening,

Last night, my wife and I were playing FarmVille. She clicked on a post that advertised that you can send three Spring eggs at a time. When she clicked on it, my computer froze and I lost internet connectivity. After running SpyBot, it found several instances of spyware (FunWeb Products) associated with the spring egg application. SpyBot easily removed the worm and I was able to resume farming.

Sending FarmVille 3 Blue Spring Eggs on Facebook (Click to Enlarge)

The curious thing is this. The application author is ______. When the request finds itself in your request page, it passes itself off as being from FarmVille. When you try to block the application, a warning will pop up and ask you if you want to block FarmVille. So there is no definitive way to block the thing. Perhaps you might want to warn your users to this.

In opposition, a response from FarmVille Freak Calyr Elf:

“The application author is Rawand.

Rawand did not create any application. He just posted links that used the FV application. It is not a new application. If you look at the links he posted, you will see they come from FV.

The guy is being villified simply for posting FV links……people are going crazy with all kinds of weird talk. I even heard people make up wild tales about him. He’s just a guy that was trying to do a nice thing for everyone, and people go nuts….sheesh. Let me repeat….he did not create an application. He merely posted links to a FV app.

Now…..on the other hand. If you get 3 spring eggs and it does not take you IMMEDIATELY to the spring eggs section, after you click on it. If instead it takes you to a page asking you to install a new app, THEN IT IS FAKE. But that’s not what is happening to the vast majority of people who are crying fake. Most people are simply using the real genuine FV app, but they fear it is fake. I have a feeling that FV is going to avoid this problem in the future by NEVER making something available for the newbies, and that’s a shame. But I digress….

NEVER agree to install a new app….you never need to do so with FV. Once you install the FV app, that’s it…..you don’t need to install others to make something from FV work. (at least not at present, and FV would certainly make plenty of announcements if they did in future.) Just DON’T INSTALL MORE APPS! BE SAFE!”

FarmVilleFeed  also confirms this rumor as false, read here for more information:

  1. timgallaway Says:

i have used that link millions of times and nothin has happened like that!!!

  2. francis Says:

    really… that’sshocking

  3. Shannon Says:

I knew it! That was my very first thought… too good to be true!

  4. James Says:

farmville has announced in their forms that there is no virus.. its all fake, the eggs are real though. someone believing it was a virus because of that name just sent a message to fvf and they posted it. i have reasearched it… it is definately not a virus.. the 3 extra eggs show up in my basket, and there are even links on here for the eggs… a direct link from farmvilles facebook application.

  5. Raquel Says:

I have used a couple of times and nothing like that happened to me either. my pc has a good anti-virus, firewall and internet security. After i´ve seen all the post about the subject, i checked to see if i had any suspicious program running underground, but nothing unusual happened in my pc.

  6. Loulou Says:

I have also used this many times…. I ran anti virus and spybot comp is working fine and have been using it for 2 or 3 days now!

  7. toebee84 Says:

I have clicked on that exact link. Spybot and Malwarebytes both confirm there are no viruses or spyware/malware on my computer.

  8. EllenK7 Says:

I used that link with the author (Rawand Bradosty) and nothing happened to my computer. Also, the 3 eggs gift worked…. multiple times even. I’ve even sent them to my friends, and they had no issues either? Who knows…. I’ll use FarmvilleFreaks.com just in case though

  9. Christina Says:

The 3 eggs links were created by Zynga for players you have been playing for 7 or less days. But anyone can use them. The requests or gifts showing up are legitimate. The links on the newsfeed are not necessarily so. However, most people I play with have not had any problems with the newsfeed “ad” for the links to 3 eggs at a time. The person credited with creating the link is a FarmVille player himself. I think there is a possibility that a vulnerability was exploited on this person’s computer and coincided with clicking on said newsfeed link. Happy Farming!

  10. francis Says:

look at this photo– from my account.. I have found it on my farmville gifts page

    http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8148/newpicturewj.png

  11. Melissa Says:

I”ve used the 3 egg link dozens of times and my computer is just fine…

  12. Juan Says:

So someone disguised an application to look like a 3 egg gift was sent to you? But doesn’t Facebook confirm that you want to add applications? I don’t see how this person could have had a virus installed unless they explicitly added another application which would be hard to do on accident since facebook takes you to that blank page that asks again about adding the application.

    Something fishy is going on…

  13. X Says:

well you got your first mistake
it is by clicking the fake application w/c sends 3 eggs at a time
if you didnt click that post,
maybe you can still accept those 3 eggs
    withouth any virus though

  14. Calyr Elf Says:

I am kinda wondering whether Farmville has started the rumor that it is a virus to stop its use. They (FARMVILLE) originated this 3 spring eggs themselves, as a way for newbies to get a better head start. They never meant for it to be used by anyone else except newbies. Once the guy got the links from a newbie friend (or a newbie account that he created) it flew all over like wildfire.

Farmville tried deleting posts in their forum, to prevent its spread. What they thought would be good for newbies is now all over, and they are NOT happy about that. So….perhaps they started this “virus” rumor to prevent people from using it.

The app IS FROM FARMVILLE….it is not a virus. It will not crash your machine, but since FV crashes so dang much anyway, it is possible that it crashed right after using this. That puts it under the heading of just one more glitch in the FV system….nothing to worry about.

If spybot found anything on your machine, it was there before you used the 3 spring eggs. Since you were scared about the app being fake, you naturally ASSUMED that it was the spring eggs that did it. It didn’t.

Like I said, I think FV is creating the rumor in order to avoid taxing their system with too many people getting too many gifts thanks to triple eggs, lol.

  15. X Says:

@ juan , based on what i observed on the picture
the “VIRUS” start on the fake application
    the farmville request was real.
the fake application was destroying the encrypt or code
of the gift request thats why some reported of getting virus

NO NO NO to those fan page, groups , apps w/c interacts with your acct
    specialy farmville

  16. matt blank Says:

yes this is a case of a fake app luring people to click onto the app with the promise of 3 eggs. if you just use those links that say apps.facebook.com/ONTHEFARM you will know it’s from farmville. don’t use links or apps from a 3rd party as they’re always fake and unauthorized. stick to the real thing and you’re good to go!

  17. Elizabeth Says:

The links on the facebook post are the same as the ones posted on farmville freak. I’ve clicked them many times. They work just fine and I haven’t had any problems with my laptop.

When you first get your spring basket, the notification says that new farmers can send more eggs. These links are probably the ones that apply to new farmers, so I think they’re legit :)

  18. X Says:

just dont trust those fake app.
dont install apps w/c you think can cause virus

  19. marlon Says:

I think that he links are true because of this: (from my account)… see the http://www.____________.com in the picture

    http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8148/newpicturewj.png

  20. Calyr Elf Says:

One more thing; someone said: The application author is Rawand Bradosty

Rawand did not create any application. He just posted links that used the FV application. It is not a new application.

If you look at the links he posted, you will see they come from FV.

  21. Huntsvillain Says:

That note was posted at http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=380161747343&id=100000524721323&ref=nf over 24 hours before FarmVille Freak posted the links, and I used the link dozens of times as did a bunch of neighbors. It works every time.

  22. X Says:

    @ calvr # 21

    its from rawand
the person who shared the link was the one who is being protected
in other words, they hide the name of the one who shared the link
its blackened or should i say bluened. right.

  23. Sam Says:

I agree with Calyr Elf. And what’s up with the weird stories about him? Sheesh! Call me crazy but I think it’s because he’s a Pakistani. He was just trying to do something nice for everyone.

And yeah, I’ve been using his link tons of times and it works fine. I have 300+ eggs because of it :D

  24. X Says:

    @ #20

    its really true
it happened because he is a new farmville user
    remember the podcast?

or in some other cases, maybe they were just rotating the gifts page again

  25. Anonymous Says:

Rawand Bradosty is a guy from Pakistan (just becuase his a Pakistani theres no need to be racist) he’s just trying to help i used his links for spring eggs valentines and pot of gold and i still dont get any virus. and i have the best virus detectors Norton, Spybot

  26. Caroline Randell Says:

I’ve used the links and they are the SAME as the ones given here earlier….

Poor guy… it means that from now on no-one will ever dare to put their name to anything just in case they end up vilified….

  27. james99 Says:

    i got 3 eggs

  28. May Diva Says:

Have had no issues with the 3 egg link !!

  29. Alfandi Says:

ohh…I see in Farmville freak..,My friend gift me three spring eggs
    I ignore his gift thank you…save me….^_^…!!!

  30. JO funny.onion Says:

I have access to my children’s accounts and gifted eggs between all of us from the 3 egg links previously posted on farmville freak.

All the links worked and multiple eggs have been distributed between us all and we have had no problems whatsoever in giving or receiving and there are no virus’s or spyware issues.

I only clicked on the 3 blue and 3 purple eggs each time so can’t confirm the other colours but am very happy with the links that I used and very grateful to the person who found them and shared them with us.

  31. Mickey Says:

I received and send about 200 3egg gifts with no problems….

  32. Mickey Says:

… only strange thing that yesterday i had unlimited requests, so i returnd almost all gifts

  33. X Says:

@ alfandi : you sHOULDNT ignored it
    let me get this cleared:

THE REASON WHY SOMEOTHERS SAID THAT THE 3 EGGS CONTAINS VIRUS BECAUSE THEY INSTALL SOMEOTHER KIND OF APPLICATION W/C AFFECT THE DISTRIBUTION OF 3 EGGS. IF YOU DIDNT INSTAL THAT APPLICATION, YOUR SAFE FROM WHAT THEY CALLED “THE VIRUS”.

  34. X Says:

@calyr elf w/c (added the post above)

WETHER ITS FAKE OR NOT, THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING SAFE. LET US JUST NOT INSTALL THOSE APPLICATION, JOIN GROUP OR BECOME A FAN OF THOSE WHO PROMISED EGGS, FARMCASH AND ANYOTHER ELSE W/C CAN EASILY ATTRACT PEOPLE.

  35. daysz Says:

I think they should read the links 1st, be smart it and dont be quick to judge.

Im glad that person make that notes, now already reach 700ish, i know it maybe not that much but still i like it it has double up the gifts :D
    so i love it

  36. Lynn Says:

Well- We all know that the posts for the “farmville free gifts” thing with the supposed yellow cow are not true. Why on earth would you click on this thing?

AND, if you’re posting here/reading the topics, you already know about the 3 egg links and don’t need to click on something bogus like that.

The links that were posted in a previous entry work, I have been using them since the guy posted them as a comment. Don’t click on the app thing that is posted on your wall feed & everything will be fine.

  37. MooMooMoo Says:

As far as I am concerned, I have had no problems with the 3-fers.

My feeling is that this is another of the ridiculous rumors, just like “don’t click OK” so that more people can grab off the feed.

    Sheesh!

  38. Marta Says:

    Hi guys,

    I’ve used all the links.
It never asked me to install any kind of applications. And i’m NOT having any kind of problem or virus on my 2 pc’s. So..ill keep using it.
If it add asked me to install anything i’d known immediately that it was fake and simply would have blocked it. It doesn’t, or at least the links that got shared with me just don’t have any kind of problem.

I do agree with some of you: DON’T install any applications, especially the one’s you don’t know were they’re coming.

And really? insulting the poor guy that was trying to help? thats absurd, please grow up and take the responsibility of installing programs you don’t know anything about.

I agree with MOOMOOMOO: another ridiculous rumor like the OK button (YES! ZYNGA HAS DENIED IT) lol.

play nice guys, there’s no reason to be like this..or try having for 3 weeks like me a farm that doens’t save to see whats really annoying lol.
    :)

  39. LukeR Says:

when i do it no virus comes up and the 3 eggs are real i tell all my friends to use it and they do so i get 3 eggs it 1

  40. mannalon Says:

you farmvillefreak yourself has posted those same links as what that guy rawand posted in his facebook note he shared. ive benn using it and it’s not a virus. just links to zynga itself. rawand guy is cool and just trying to be helpful so please don’t accuse him. he has no app to install. just links the same farmvillefreak.com posted here.

  41. Shemek Says:

I have used a couple of times and nothing like that happened to me either.

  42. DerekC Says:

Bottom line? People are whining idiots who don’t know how to use the computer. Its all the Farmville Seniors who only know how to use farmville, and other computer freaks that are afraid to use google. Its all bull. If you are clicking a link that is directing you to apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/*, then you are going to the farmville app. I use links all the time, and practically knew some of them by heart. This link: http://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/gifts_send.php?gift=easter_item_## <– with the two numbers at the end WILL bring you to farmville, no matter what. Even it is a farmville error page, it will bring you to the farmville app. As far as i am concerned, you cannot change the text for a link. You can fake a picture for the website address, but as long as you are navigating to apps.farmville.com/onthefarm/*, you are safe. Is that so hard? Why do we need to even explain this?!

  43. DINGUS Says:

The actual sending of the eggs is not a virus. The link that takes you to something that tells you how could be, but probably isn’t.

  44. ActiveFarmer Says:

I hope its not virus! I really love those 3 eggs!

  45. CyanKat Says:

Ive used this many of times and have had no problems as well. I was told there was rumor of links being a virus. A link isnt viral but what u do AFTER u get to the link can cause one to acquire a virus. I searched the net for it and here is something i found from another site.
people claimed that Nortons by Symantec has reported it to be a virus. this simply shows Symantecs response to this rumor.

    http://farmvillefeed.com/wp/farmville/3-egg-virus-untrue/

IN the interim, this poor guy who tweaked Zynga’s link is being crucified as a hacker another word being thrown around with negative connotation. Although its true that one can never be too careful particularly in such a public venue such as facebook, people should really learn how to research this stuff before spreading rumors. Just imagine if u were Rawand and was just trying to be helpful. just saying …

  46. Barnabas Szélyes Says:

plase help me my foal collection I have got grey or brown foal plase help me

  47. JWood Says:

I have used Rawand’s link several times and it is NOT a virus. It takes you to the Farmville gifting page you access through the game. I ran Spybot after seeing this and found no spyware on my computer. This is a hoax.

  48. Katie Says:

so far I haven’t run into any problems, but I’m glad I read this before I go home and start playing farmville (I’m at school and it’s blocked here)
so thank you so much farm freak!

  49. Amanda Says:

I have been using and reposting this link for almost a week now..and every time it has worked! Who doesnt love getting 3 eggs instead of just 1!!!

  50. nate diggity Says:

LOL @ all the internet morons STILL getting PWNED by the fake apps….. HAHAHAHAHAAHAH

  51. Lee Says:

I’m so tired of FV and their anti semitic ways….They think by re-naming items like the holiday tree and spring eggs that we’re idiots?..I’m done playing their games..

  52. Nicole Says:

I’ve had no such problems. Been using this link several times now, and it’s worked completely fine.

  53. Risa Says:

I’ve used Rawand’s link and no problem whatsoever!

  54. Lana Says:

Well, I”m NOT a liar, and I’m not making it up- and I didn’t click on any applications, but I got malware from clicking on rawand’s link. My friends and I have been sending the 3 eggs back and forth with no issues, but the first time I clicked on the link from rawand’s page I got malware called ‘antivirus soft’. Was a pain to get rid of. It comes from Pakistan and is basically just an annoyance- it won’t let you open up IE or do anything- it tells you you have a virus and need to purchase antivrus soft to get rid of it. But antivirus soft IS the virus.

I have no idea if Rawand or whoever is the cause of this or if it’s somehow attached to him through no fault of his own, but I am 99% positive it DID come from clicking on that link. The link IS legitimately from farmville, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have malware attached to it somehow.

I have friends who have been using that link with no issue, so I think this is a ‘your mileage may vary’ thing, but I’m telling you that i did get malware from it!

  55. annie paul Says:

used that link dozens and dozens of times. absolutely no virus.

  56. MrBB Says:

I’ve used several times and always 3 eggs are in the basket.. no virus .

  57. mango Says:

    antisemitic?what an idiot u r….

  58. jayden Says:

I did it about 100 times and I didn’t get a virus, soo this guy is talking BS

  59. Chenko Says:

I don’t know if that is the same linh, but my friends sent me 3 spring eggs an it works…that happened 2 o 3 times

  60. farmy Says:

why are people mad at farmvillefreak for letting us read the full story? do some of you not understand what quotes mean?

  61. Heather Says:

I use Rawand Bradosty page daily with no issues. Everyone I know does too. People are so quick to assume virus’ and things come from one page when they are really from another.

  62. Carrie Says:

Works for me too. Don’t get the fuss.

  63. frendy Says:

    hey ppl ,
i have used his links many times and all are safe. I do get more than 300 eggs in my basket. Rawand is really helping others not spreading any virus.

  64. BZP Says:

    IT DOESNT WORK ANYMOREl: http://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/gifts_send.php?gift=easter_item_06

  65. stephania Says:

DAMN YOU! ITS NOT WORKING NOW! they shut it off >:(

  66. Unicorn1 Says:

Links are no longer working and if you have gifts that you havn’t collected yet for the 3 eggs, collect it right away, I had 4 of the 3 eggs gifts and was only able to collect 2. One said that the gift was no longer available and the other took me to my farm. Funny, how they can fix this but the other problems NOOOOOOO!!!! Its been 2wks now and I still am getting messages when I click on some of my neighbours news feed that states you can’t collect from yourself.

  67. Jeremy Says:

    ITS OVER! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  68. Lisa Says:

It doesn’t work for me!!!!!!! That’s not cool. :(

  69. Lisa Says:

Well, boys and girls it was sure fun while it lasted! But it looks like “the man” has caught on to us! No more 3 eggs at a time. *sob*

  70. Casey Says:

I got error messages when accepting my 3 egg combos and when trying to gift them, it went straight to FV

    BUMMER!!

  71. Tony Says:

THE BUY/SEND OPTION has been indeed removed

Also the three eggs link has been removed if you try to collect them you get an error message. We know it was a cheat anyway.

  72. Cesar F Says:

The 3 eggs at a time are NO LONGER WORKING!!!
    No more 3 spring eggs!!!
    It’s so saaaaad!!!
But hey! We used the links as long as they worked, so… It’s good anyway.

    Cheers everyone!!!

Keep sending those eggs, no matter if they goes one by one!!! hehehehe

  73. kanz Says:

the links are working no more :(

  74. aeriomel Says:

i have use it many times.. and nothing happen.. pls bring it back..

  75. Travis Says:

I’ve gotten 3 Spring Egg requests from other people too, but i don’t know how to send them though

  76. summer Says:

i send 3 eggs all of the time and nothing has happened to my computer.
maybe it only affects certain people?

  77. melonseed Says:

Rubbish people! I just got the virus. It IS disguised in a form of gift! I thought I could find solutions here but people here still unaware of it. FV has changed the gift config so every gift has to be accepted from the home page. Thats hoew i got it.
