FarmVille Freak Blake’s Mystery Gift & Egg Block
Blocking your farmer avatar can be very useful and time saving.
Not only does it save you time while plowing, planting or harvesting, it also saves your FarmVille neighbors time when they are visiting your farm to fertilize because they too will be automatically blocked upon entering your farm. I personally hate visiting farms who do not have a block set up.
Of course, if you use any of the FarmVille vehicles such as the Hot Rods, then a block may not seem as necessary because there is less clicking involved and your avatar does not need to pace the steps of the work path. However, Blocking is still useful for harvesting trees and collecting from animals, as well as saving fuel and your neighbor’s time.
With the recent debut of FarmVille Puppies, many FarmVille Freaks have released their farmers from their Blocks so that they can watch the Puppy follow them around the farm. Note, if your farmer is blocked your Puppy will not be able to follow you.
If you have never heard of “Blocking” you may read here for more information: How to Block your FarmVille Farmer (Wow- this post dates all the way back to September 15th!)
We’ve seen lots of different creative Farmer Blocks. For example, FarmVille Freaks have used: hay bales, fences, animals, flags, gnomes, and various other FarmVille items, but this is the first time we’ve seen a farmer block set up entirely of the free giftable Mystery Gifts and Mystery Eggs!
That’s right FarmVille Freak Blake used nothing but Mystery Gifts and Mystery Eggs to create his block. Thanks for sharing with us Blake and here’s to proving your girlfriend wrong

Do you use the Blocking technique on your farm? If so, what materials do you use to create your Block?

I use Pink Hay Bales and Teddy Bears for my Block. I’m thinking of changing it soon since it’s getting old to me.

If you want to watch the puppy run just place him at a corner of the farm and click “Follow” It will run to the Farmer and it’s even possible to make a special path for the puppy
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
I leave the block there for my neighbors, but take myself and the puppies out.

I would pay 5 FV$ for something called “farmerstay”. It would be like, you can place you farmer anywhere you want, pictured busy at something (like, atop of a ladder picking fruit from a tree, or painting the barn, or saddling a horse), and it wouldn’t move until you take the “farmerstay” off.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 12:45 pm
Also, that way the farmer wouldn’t always be at the center of the farm, which ruins the illusion of the design. It also wouldn’t always be standing and facing forward.

I blocked him in WITH my dog. Chances are, the dog can’t run away if oy u forget to feed him, if they mena it literally. Naturally, i did not purposely try it out (you have to pay 3 FV cash to get the puppy back if he does run away anyway) – but it’s worth a try.

You can also block your farmer from being able to get to your trees and harvests. I have my plots fenced and also my trees. So my farmer can still move if I want her to and also be followed by the dog.

if you want a working farm then it takes up to much space thats y i dont do them
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
I took the hay bails off, but my plots are fenced in, so I can still harvest roaming cats and trees without having to wait (I can open the gate if I change my mind). My puppy has it’s own area at the top of my working plots so he can greet me when I get there! In my opinion, others will enjoy fertilizing more if there’s a puppy following them. Don’t like it? Don’t fertilize.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
I used fences to block my little guy and placed the puppy inside with him – that way he isn’t getting loose until he is full grown ….. I agree with Laura – it would be nice to have the avatar be able to stay in one spot elsewhere on the farm instead of in the middle of the crops – over by the trees for example – would look like he is picking fruit.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I’m using Tall Grass at the moment because it looks natural.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I use a hedge gate, so i open, walk out of block and close for who wanrs ro fertilize, VERU HANDY, i suggest you all do this!!!
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
“if you want a working farm then it takes up to much space thats y i dont do them”
It takes ONE plot
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:17 pm
I got 4 Bonsai trees blocking me heheh
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:32 pm
I use haybales since it doesn’t take up much space.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
I use hay bales and inside is an pink cottage and my dog, as my house.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
i have 358 plots and and want loads of them for co-op and i like the idea of making your farmer do somethingelse it would be interesting
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
I have used anywhere from hay bales, teddy bears, fences, tall grass, kitty decorations, rose bushes, and trees. The irony is that you can actually have your character wander about, just as long as you block off your crop, animals, and buildings. If they can’t get there, you don’t have to have a direct block.
I’ve had friends send me a message, “Hey. You need to block your avatar. I had to wait forever for him to get to your chicken coop.” With the size of my farm and neighbors nowadays, it appears that blocking can save people a minute or two. They want to move on and fertilize the next neighbor.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Off Topic – but anyone find it funny that you can actually sell 1,000 coins for 0 coins in your gifts. Just plain wrong.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
I have mine blocked in by random Christmas and past rare decorations.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
I have mine blocked with 1×1 decorations that i can’t store anymore because my storage space is full
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
I currently have my housing compound around my avatar. The gates are open, but I placed the gates and fences in such a way that when the game loads, my dog actually blocks me in. I can have my avatar walk around so the dog follows me, which then unblocks me from my housing compound if I want to watch my dog follow me around the plots. Yep, I’m badass
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
i use topiary, gold gnomes and flax.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
i would love a farmer stay button. not only for my own farm but while visiting others. i for one have given up feeding any chickens when the farmer is not blocked. i tend to go to the “no walking” farms alot more often than the others. if you want more people to visit your farm to fertilize and feed…you might want to give up that one square.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
Blocked off in a 1×1 sized plot using all mystery gifts. Tall grass sounds good though, I’m using it to enhance my mastery signs after reading a comment from someone about making your mastery signs more fancy or whatever lol!
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
that guy is probably pretending to have a girlfreind
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Great Idea Anna! Send us a pic of your farm showing your blocking f you want and we will feature it on FVFreak.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
I just built a yard for my villa out of hedges so it doesn’t look like my farmer is stuck in the middle of the field forever, but is just hanging out in the front yard.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
Since my farm is “perfect” my block only needs one plot. I have 1 grape sheep, love ewe, green one and the yellow one, black one and the rest white. They surround him, its quite useful cause I dont have to loose space:) I do want to let him out so I can gain that extra plot of land:( i am fanatical.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
does anyone else think farmville should put a function that allows neighbors to request permission to join a co-op? it’s frustrating when people join your co-op just to reap the benefits and don’t actually help you reach your goal!
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
I design my farm in such a way that it looks natural (no weird box of hay bales or anything else around my farmer) but there are no openings for her to have to walk to trees, animals or plots.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 5:48 pm
I use sunflower buckets and one tuft of tall grass for the front.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
I can’t stand trying to fertilize people’s crops when they don’t have their avatar on lock-down. It’s a real pain to have that thing following you around, and having to wait on it! All the high level farmers I know have their avatars locked-up.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
I block mine in as well with hay bales.. but I think it is cute when I go to my neighbors farm and their puppy comes running out to greet me…
BTW I am trying to look for FV cards to purchase I live in Ontario Canada and I have gone to 3 best buys and 3 7-11′s and they are not there… Are they not available in Canada yet… Does anyone know?? Thanks..

I had set up a little teahouse with two sets of wooden benches with a stool in the middle, acting as a round table where its surrounded by cherry trees and tulips with the view of the black cats staring into a fish pond in a corner. However, once I had gotten the waterfall, koi pond, and pagoda, I went back to a one plot block with benches and tall grass since I needed the teahouse for my Japanese style home in the corner. >.<

I’ve blocked my crops, trees & animals… My avatar is in the middle of all that, it doesn’t look like it’s blocked, but it is… I used to have it blocked by red heart hay bales, but it drove me crazy that I had 399 plots (it used to mess with my masteries schedule), so I’ve split the plots in 4 groups of 100 and left the middle free for all the other stuff (except for the trees, mastery signs and other little decorations, which are on the sides).
Off topic: anyone else thinks it’s just wrong the storage, which is supposed to save space, takes sooo much space? I have 4 red barns and 2 tool sheds (meaning 100 storage, since they’re fully expanded) and they take up a huuuuge amount of space!
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
surround your person with decorations to make room in your barns and tool sheds 4 bigger decorations
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 7:45 pm
I didn’t block my farmer, I blocked everything else… My animals have fencing around them, same with the barns, and all my crops….
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 7:59 pm
@Oana
If you want to save space assuming that the barns you have are the red ones, you should simply switch them to toolsheds since they take less space per storage unit. However you will have to fully expand them again, so I am not sure if you want to go through the hassle of doing it.

Maybe it’s just me, but am I the only farmer who doesn’t want to block their avatar? I understand that it saves time, but I feel like it would be pointless and incredibly unrealistic to keep them cooped up. I keep most of my animals fenced in and my trees are lining my farm in such a way that they’re blocked off from my farmer, but I wouldn’t want to block her from the crops! Just personal preference I suppose.
And in response to WeirdJedi-That makes absolutely NO sense!!!
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
I can usually take the avatar during fertilizing, unless the field is large and already heavily fertilized. But when I go to feed the chickens if I have to wait for that thing to find the coop, I’m already onto the next neighbor. I try to fertilize my neighbors every day, and at over 60 of them it is time consuming. So I don’t waste any more time then needed waiting for the avatar to catch up.
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
I wish they’d bring back all of the seeds…{from poinsettia to golden poppies}
so i can master them all
pls…..!!
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 2:47 am
I use flowers, colorful hay bales etc…. anything that goes with the present theme of my farm…
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 4:50 am
I use flower bunches.
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 5:08 am
I made a sqaure that was 5 French Walls length and breadth, and made a farmyard with my Horse stable, Dutch windmill, trees ,Barn, Maison and cow shed. This looks nice and acts as a blocker because its in the middle of the farm, crops round the outside and vehicles on a road leading to farmyard gates:P
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 6:46 am
Tall grass and flax. My avatar finds this impossible to get through. Either that or she’s simply tied to the scarecrow.
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 7:42 am
I had my farmer blocked in with fences, which has always worked…until yesterday. Last night, she started walking right through the fences while I was harvesting…has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas? Thank you!
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
..I think that link just goes to the current page
Posted on April 13th, 2010 at 3:36 am
I have been doing that for months with the mystery gifts.
Posted on April 13th, 2010 at 6:20 am
Currently, I use 2 plots for trapping…but one would do the job. My blockers are 3 small hills, 2 tall grasses & the puppy, In the background on the second plot, I have the mini-villa.
When I want to liberate my farmer, I move the 2 tall grasses. Very easy and it fits into my landscaping pretty well.
Posted on April 13th, 2010 at 10:01 am
I use long grass
Posted on April 14th, 2010 at 11:23 pm
I use game torches looks cool
Posted on April 15th, 2010 at 9:18 am
@ Kay –
I originally had my person “blocked in” but now that I have the dog, the avatar is walking all over the place. :/ She’s walked through my hay-bale block. I also used other items, and she’s still walking through them.
Is this happening to anybody else
Posted on June 23rd, 2010 at 10:23 am
@Kay-Yes this is happening to me too. My neighbors are complaining but I cant get her to stay put anymore…is this a FV glitch? Anyone?
