Zynga Clutters Farmville with Advertising

Zynga has added in-game pop-ups within Farmville to advertise and promote other Zynga games such as Mafia Wars and Cafe World.
The pop-ups are located above your Farmville neighbors list.
Like most people I find it annoying and hope it will not get worse.

I agree. I DO NOT like that pop up. Very annoying when one is just trying to peacefully get a little farming done.

hi all, i think we should so something to this. like a popular movement to oppose advertising. could we all try to stay one day out from farmville to show them we don’t want ads? like November 30th – the day without farmville – because our beautiful farms have been ruined by advertisement? what do you say? if we get enough people to attend, they will see – i promise.

Honestly, I really don’t mid it. Once… or twice, but every time I load the game is overkill. I mean how many times do I need to see it, seriously.
It should have a radio box that you can check that says “Do not display this message again”. Like every program known to man.

This is getting ridiculous, both the in-app pop ups and the constant stream of facebook posts. Soon I’ll need to hide farmville in facebook anyway just to be able to read anything other than fertilization comments/requests.

Advertising third-party products or services is one thing; a business has to make money, right? But advertising your own products that are easily accessible from the very website the ads are posted on is ridiculous.
Perhaps they should try and fix some of the performance and connection issues before introducing more bandwidth-eating “features.”

You can use Firefox and Adblock plus to stop the ad from popping up. The ad is called http://static.farmville.com/v8274/assets/dialogs/FV_GenericBannerAd.swf
Block the item using the ABP stop sign and make sure it uses the top most filter and that it only ‘the end of the address’ box is checked.
They can always change the path or rename the .swf file that it plays so you may have to block it again in the future if you notice it starts popping up again.

They’re already advertising above, right and under the game. Adding in game advertisement is overkill and plainly annoying.
Add to this the whole new fertilizer harassment with the in game prompt to post to feed and the endless stream of posts in the feed of fertilizer, flowers and people helping others out.
It seems obvious that Zynga is desperate as their revenue stream has been cut off with the bust of spammy FarmVille dollar offers.
I can live through the technical difficulties, but this deluge of posts on the feed and in game ads make it a lot less enjoyable.

I SO agree with Martin! I never publish those posts, I wish every1 else would stop posting them too! I have also thought about hiding farmville from my feed, but then I would miss all the ribbon bonuses and the lost animals…
(I really wouldn´t mind missig the poor 50 coins u get from those “thank you for fertilizing ma crops”-posts…)

I really don’t like the advertising displayed in Farmville…
Why do I Play Farmvile? Because I like to be a farmer.
Really I don’t like Mafia Wars… I don’t want to be a criminal.
Also I don’t like Poker because I don’t want to be a gambler.
I just want to be a farmer….

I am on the verge of quitting FV. This stupid mafia wars popup is the last straw. I actually opened another FB account just to play FV because of the clutter in the feed on my personal FB account…I could not find “real friends” posts for all the damn junk on there now. You can’t hide it and play the game because then you miss the good bonuses and the animals. They are making it unpleasant to play the game and once that happens I am outta there. Pop up needs to go away NOW.

I HATE that pop-up!!!!!!! I have used the “Hide” button to hide Mafia Wars, among other apps, on my Facebook page and now it is being forced on me in a game anyway. I don’t like it one bit. I hope the founding fathers of Farmville read these posts!!!!

This pop-up drives me nuts and it’s *so* intrusive. I get it every time I try and fertilize someone’s crops. Plus, my pooter periodically freezes when it happens. It’s just so *naff* ~ I don’t want Mafia Wars ads when I’m farming. Grrrr.

I tried the ABP block for the popup and it unfortunately didnt work for me. It there another way around it that anyone knows? I really detest advertising spam. Thanks!!

I think the boycott on November 30 to show Zynga how agitating the Mafia Wars popup is — I don’t have high speed just DSL and the popup has started locking up my FV game!!!! Let’s all post to our wall that we are considering the boycott and see how many of our neighbors will agree?

Give Zynga a break. You expect them to do all this for nothing? They developed a cool game with a lot of man-hours invested. A little pop-up now and then is a cheap price to pay.

When i log in everything is ok. But I can’t click on my gifts, plant seeds, or delete any item on my farm. I did take notice though as to every time i click on one of those icons, in the bottom right corner of my screen where is shows what is loading, it says read static.farmville.com. Does anyone know how to help me? I really want to keep playing, but the set backs arent helping me any. PLEASE HELP!!!

They need to get rid of these pop-up adds. If I wanted to play another game I would be doing it and not playing Farmville. What does read static Farmville.com mean? It holds up my computer.

Are you aware of the problem that thousand of users have with farmville? It is the OUT OF SYNC ERROR that users get when they work on their farms. There are thousand complains about it in FV forum and till now there is no official Zynga answer. Can you keep us informed about this? Or can you do somehing about this?

i am starting to understand why people turn against farm ville and these other games- and by the way, why should anyone donate to a website to keep it up and running- if you can’t afford the site, don’t publish it- that is so annoying for everyone to always ask for donations-god knows zanga makes enough $$$$ and there are affilates and every other type of scam to get money in cyberspace- maybe i should ask people to donate to me because i want them to- what a load of crap- donate to something worthy, which makes a difference in the REAL world!!!!!!!!
