FarmVille Feed Change: Limiting Watering Cans & Animal Feed Shares

Tue ,22/05/2012

FarmVille Updated Watering Can

FarmVille Updated Mystery Seedling

FarmVille Updated Feed

Recently FarmVille upgraded the Facebook Feed icons for Watering Cans, Mystery Seedlings, and Animal Feeds, but that’s not all they changed. Today, FarmVille announced that it began rolling out changes to some FarmVille feeds that you share with your neighbors on Facebook. Specifically, the posting of Watering Cans when you harvest an Orchard, the posting of Watering Cans when you grow a Mystery Seedling, and posting Animal Feed when you harvest an Animal Pen are all each being limited to one share per day.

Why is FarmVille doing this? As explained by FarmVille Community Manager, Grimwell, below- many players are experiencing problems posting feeds because of the large amount of feeds being posted in a day. In other words, the many feeds that you post and claim in one day can reach a cutoff point that will force you into an inability to post any feeds. To solve this problem, FarmVille has decided to limit the amount of Watering Cans and Animal Feed being shared in one day because it is these items that are most often unclaimed by players. Although lots of these items are being shared, oftentimes they are left unclaimed and useless.

Please note, even though you will be limited to how many of these items you can share, there is still no limit on how many of these items you can claim. There may be no limit to items you can claim, but it seems natural that there would be less of the restricted items around with the new limitations in place- less items being shares, less items available to claim. Whether this is enough to cause a shortage seems unlikely as both Watering Cans and Animal Feed can be sent as free gifts via the FarmVille Gifting Page. It may make growing up your trees a little more annoying, but there are still water-producing Orchards, Water Wheels, and now Fishing Holes. Also, there is still NO limit to how many Animals, Mystery Seedlings, or fully grown Trees that you can share.

You can read below all of the details straight from the source, as announced on the Official FarmVille Forums.

Posting Watering Can and Animal Feed Change
“Howdy Farmers,

Beginning this afternoon we are rolling out a change to how many times you will be prompted to post Watering Cans and Animal Feed.

The Feeds we are changing are:
Posting Watering Cans when you harvest an Orchard
Posting Watering Cans when you grow a Mystery Seedling half-way to the full tree state.
Posting Animal Feed when you harvest an Animal Pen

What changes are we making?
In each of the three changes, you will be prompted to post one shared item per day. One Watering Can when you harvest an Orchard, one Watering Can as you grow a seedling, and one Animal Feed when you harvest an Animal Pen.

Harvesting subsequent Orchards or Pens, or watering more than one seedling will result in no further prompts to share these items into your feed.

Why are we making this change?
You may have noticed that many Farmers report issues posting items to their feeds. They get messages such as “An error has occurred, please try again later.” and the feed never posts.

A leading cause of this is posting a great number of feeds in a day. The platform begins to limit the number of feeds you can post, and locks you out of it after you cross a certain threshold. After that, feeds stop posting and your animals, trees, etc. can’t be shared with friends.

We studied the feeds that FarmVille posts, as well as the feeds Farmers claim, and believe that these feeds are an ideal candidate to consider for reduction. A great number of Watering Cans and Animal Feed gets posted every day by generous Farmers, but the bulk of it is not claimed, and triggers the platform limit without providing a benefit to Farmers.

Things to Note:
This does not change or limit the number of Watering Cans or Animal Feed posts you can click to receive from your friends. It reduces the number of times you will be prompted to post, but not how much you can claim.

This will not impact your ability to share Mystery Seedlings, Animals, or fully-grown Trees.

This will reduce interruptions to your game-play while harvesting orchards and pens, or watering seedlings. For those of us with dozens of pens and orchards, this means we can harvest and get to our rewards all that much faster!

This is going to roll out slowly over the next week. Not every Farmer will see a reduction in prompts to post up front.

After your one prompted post for the day, when you harvest an Orchard or Pen and would normally receive a Watering Can or Animal Feed, you will still receive it (in your Gift Box) even though you are not prompted to post a feed to share with your friends.

Please share your feedback with us, and your results if you see this change on your Farm.

Thanks!” (Source: Official FarmVille Forum)

FarmVille Sad Cow

Zynga is ending FarmVille.com which will no longer be available sometime very soon.  If you’ve played FarmVille recently using the FarmVille.com platform, then you most likely have noticed the notice found above the in-game play area. The notice reads as follows:

“Attention Farmers! Very soon, FarmVille.com will no longer be available to our players. We encourage everyone to play on Facebook where you’ll find all your favorite features including widescreen mode! Click here to play!

A little more information can be found over at the official FarmVille Forum where FarmVille Community Manager, Lexilicious announced

“Hey Farmers!
Due to maintenance costs, FarmVille.com will no longer be available for our players in the near future. We encourage you to play on Facebook, where you’ll find all of your favorite features, including widescreen mode!

Once access to FarmVille.com has been removed, you will be redirected to the facebook application if you attempt to connect to the site. Thank you for your continued support! “ (Source: Official FarmVille Forum)

Besides maintenance cost, there is no other reason given as to why FarmVille.com is ending or when its death will happen, but players are encouraged to access their favorite farming game via Facebook.

Please note, FarmVille can be accessed through Facebook and mobile app.

What do you think, FarmVille Freaks? Are you sad to see FarmVille.com ending? Who plays FarmVille using the actual FarmVille.com website? Take our Poll below.

FarmVille Introducing FarmVille Friends Notice

FarmVille has finally added the ability for players to add FarmVille friends without being Facebook friends!

This means that you can play FarmVille together without actually being Facebook friends. This is a great alternative for players who need more neighbors but have had qualms about adding strangers to their Facebook accounts. On the other hand, we know that many of you, ourselves included, have met some really great people by playing FarmVille, even some we can now call real life friends. Remember, that you will still have the option of adding people you meet through FarmVille as Facebook friends if you decide to later on.

FarmVille Disco Ball Tree Mastery Sign

A new FarmVille cash offer is now being reported by several FarmVille Freaks. After loading the game some players are receiving the screen featured above stating that with a FarmVille Cash purchase they will receive a bonus gift of one free Disco Ball tree.

Disco Ball Trees were first available during an LE New Years event. The cost at that time for one tree was 15 $FV. It is however a Level 2 tree, so you can grow a Disco Ball Tree from a Mystery Seedling for free.

FarmVille Unwither Clock Monthly Extension Fee

Mon ,25/04/2011

FarmVille Unwither Clock

As many of you may remember the FarmVille English Countryside Unwither Clock was released shortly after English Countryside premiered. A user could purchase the Unwither Clock for 55 $FV and would provide 30 days of wither protection. For some who purchased the clock the 30 days is now up and are being offered a time extension of 30 days more of wither protection for 45 $FV.

In the past farmers have been able to purchase wither protection by one and large upfront investment  of 250 $FV in an Unwither Ring. The Unwither Clock offers the same protection but will cost a farmer 45 $FV a month.

While unwither protection is very useful, it is often turned on by the Big Z for technical issues. Most recently unwither has been turned on for 4 consecutive days. Perhaps Z should refund players who made/make this monthly this investment and got the service free anyways ?

FarmVille Scam: Beware of the Kung Fu Duck!

Wed ,16/02/2011

FarmVille Kung Fu Duck FaceBook Scam Notice

Yet another FarmVille scam is circulating the Facebook news feed. This time, the Kung Fu Duck is the bait, so beware.

The picture above is what the news feed share would look like on your Facebook wall. On closer inspection you can see for yourself that it has all the signs that classify it as a scam and this being one of the more noticeable ones with its highly pixelated botched image. It starts out with an incorrect spelling of FarmVille’s preferred “Yeehaw”. Then the text’s description, grammar, and capitalization is off. Finally, take a look next to the FarmVille corn icon at the bottom left. You will notice that the source of the share is not FarmVille, instead it is sourced via “Get the Kung FU Duck”.

After clicking the fake share, another pop-up notification is triggered that asks you if you would like to adopt the Kung Fu Duck. Obviously this animal is not available for adoption. Currently, the Kung Fu Duck is featured exclusively in the FarmVille Mystery Game. You cannot purchase it directly in the FarmVille Market nor is it available anywhere else and certainly not by a free adoption (no matter what Facebook group you join or link you click). Why would Zynga give out a duck that is a Mystery Game exclusive for free when players are spending precious Farm Cash (per Mystery Game dart) to take their chances at owning one?

FarmVille Kung Fu Duck Scam Notice

The FarmVille news feed scams have been rampant as of late (See FarmVille Visit England scam or FarmVille Charming Foal scam ). So if you like to scour the Facebook news feed for bonuses, freebies, and adoptables, please take caution before clicking like a mad farmer.

Once again FarmVille Freak would like to remind you that no Facebook group is sanctioned to give out free in-game FarmVille items, especially through legitimate FarmVille shares. Any link that promises to do so is falsely using the rare special item bait to get you to join or accept their app, group, or program. Think about the logistics of how a third party group would automatically send you an in-game item. Not possible. Not only are these groups fake and fruitless as you never get the promised reward prize, many contain mal-ware that can harm your computer.

Sadly, these are not the only scams and there will certainly be more before we can even talk about them on here. We’d like to invite you to share this article with your less informed FarmVille neighbors. Oftentimes it’s the newbie farmers that fall victim to these scams and the best way to prevent them from doing so is to educate them. So be a good neighbor and instead of deleting them from your friend’s list why not share this article?

Have you seen any fake Kung Fu Ducks on your Facebook news feed? What FarmVille scams have you recently seen? Report scams to farmgoddess@farmvillefreak.com and we will share them with the FarmVille Freak community.

FarmVille Freak Neighbor Etiquette: How Can I Help You Today?

FarmVille Freak Neighbor Etiquette 101

FarmVille is a social game, one that we play with friends! Most FarmVille players have spent quite a bit of time finding awesome neighbors that help them obtain items/help them often with their farm. But, just like our neighbors in real life, there certainly are some unsaid rules about being a good FarmVille neighbor.

These etiquette tips and tricks are written within reason and geared towards active players. Just like in real life, let’s all strive to be patient and understanding neighbors, no one is perfect!

This is merely a compilation of feedback formulated with the help of FarmVille Freaks. In no way is it it set rules that all must abide by. FarmVille Freaks love discussing FarmVille and gameplay and this is a discussion of the etiquette involved in FarmVille farming.

These rules are just a starting point, they do not cover all aspects of gameplay.

First, and possibly most important, is free gifting.  A good FarmVille Neighbor sends and returns gifts when they can. Now, this is within reason. While it is super nice to get every gift you send returned, some folks just don’t have the time.

Free Gifting Etiquette:

  • Try to return gifts when you can
  • Send gifts to people that need items
  • Respond to Wish List requests on Facebook Newsfeed when you have the time
  • Try to respond to help requests in a timely manner!
  • Try not inundate neighbors with help requests! One help request per day, per neighbor is a great.

News Feed Bonus Collecting:

  • Only collect bonuses from neighbors that you need! Try to leave some love for other players that are looking for items
  • Say thank you! ‘Like’ items/bonuses that you collect from neighbors! It is sad when you post a rare tree, animal, or bonus and have no idea who is enjoying it on their farm. This also helps other players from wasting their time clicking on a post that has already been claimed.

News Feed Help Requests:

  • Don’t ignore a good ole’ barn/coop raising, give a friend a click :)
  • When neighbors post a Wish List try to help them out. Everyone is busy growing trees and working on buildables!

Crafting, Bushels & Goods:

  • When purchasing bushels or finding them on your farm, share! You never know who is in need of a Red Tulip Bushel!
  • Not all farmers purchase crafting goods, but it is polite to try and purchase from your neighbors if they request you to do so. We have all been one purchase away from a crafting mastery level and know its frustrating when no one is purchasing that last good!
  • Purchase from those who purchase from you. Some farmers (awesome farmers) purchase from their neighbors each and everyday, if you notice a neighbor who continually purchases from you, try to lend a hand and return the favor
  • Share your goods! Some farmers have thousands of fuel refills but quite a lot don’t. Free fuel is awesome, so be sure to share your bonus goods so farmers have the opportunity to redeem for extra fuel!

Visiting Neighbors Farms:

This is actually quite controversial, with 300 being the maximum amount of neighbors currently, it would take a significant amount of time to visit each neighbor daily. And even if you do, sometimes the help isn’t very appreciated. There are several items you can click on while visiting a neighbor that allows you to post a bonus directly to their Facebook profile, like the Pig Pen for extra slop.

Farmers seem pretty evenly divided about this, some farmers love any bonus they can get. But, other farmers don’t want their Facebook wall cluttered  with posts for all their non-farmer friends to see, or don’t even need the items that are posted.

Each and every neighbor is different about this, try to connect with those neighbors and ask them if they need/want bonuses posted to profile.

However, when new features are being rolled out keep in mind most neighbors would like any help they can get! The first day an new feature or constructible building rolls out, is often the best time to complete it because you can work together fast with other like-minded eager neighbors.

A few general rules of FarmVille Etiquette:

1. Be understanding. Don’t get angry with neighbors who have a lull in playing. Everyone farms at their own pace. Consider that there are always a few days here and there that your neighbors may not be able to play for personal reasons.

2. Help those who help you!

3. Peace not war, just be nice to your neighbors.

And always keep in mind what FarmVille Freak ScarlettElf suggests:

“I love helping neighbors out but sometimes find it overwhelming when I don’t know which person needs what.  It would be nice to know sometimes when people need something like posting it on their wall or sending a message. So a good etiquette tip is perhaps asking your neighbors, How can I help today?

What’s your FarmVille etiquette? What types of things would you consider good or bad farming etiquette?

Missing FarmVille Game Requests on Facebook!

Sun ,06/02/2011

FarmVille Watering Can

Some farmers, including myself, have reported that their Facebook Game Requests have gone missing! I personally clicked my Game Requests tonight and lost about 100 Free Gifts and/or Requests.

With so many buildables like the new Greenhouse and tree growing it is very difficult to play without the help of neighbors. So what would a good blogger do? Research! I went directly to FarmVille Live Support to ask some questions, although that ended in a standard response. See below:

Sarah T.: Hi, my name is Sarah T.. How may I help you?
CabbagePatchKid: For quite some time now I have been losing about 90% of my gifts. It has been very difficult for me to complete things, now especially with the 125 bonus limit.
CabbagePatchKid: Only a few of  my gifts show up in the in game gift center, so all my neighbors time and mine is being wasted. Now as of tonight, I click on game requests and they all disappeared, and it continues to do that ( on facebook).
Sarah T.: Do you know what is exactly missing?
Sarah T.: I am sorry you are missing items.
CabbagePatchKid: I have lost a lot of gifts! Especially a lot of special delivery boxes, probably close to 100 this evening.
CabbagePatchKid: Why are game requests going missing from Facebook?
Sarah T.: We are currently working on getting this issue resolved with Facebook.

So it seems this is a Facebook issue, but there is some speculation among FarmVille Freaks that FarmVille is transitioning to accepting gifts only through the in-game message center.
