Pakistan Bans FaceBook and FarmVille Access!
Tweet |
Supporters of Officials in Pakistan Blocking FaceBook Over Fan Page
Update: Pakistan has also banned (again) YouTube.com as of May 20th 2010.
On May 19th 2010 Pakistan banned FaceBook and thus access to FarmVille!
Pakistan officials were outraged over a FaceBook Page that promotes cartoonists’ sketches of an Islamic prophet. As reported by AOL News, the FaceBook page, considered blasphemous, is titled ” ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!‘ [and] calls on Facebook users to upload drawings of Islam’s most holy of holy men… to protest Islamic extremists’ threats and violence against past portrayers of Muhammad” (Source: AOL News).
Government authorities in Pakistan responded by blocking access to FaceBook for all of Pakistan. Blocking FaceBook means that FarmVille players located in Pakistan will not have access to their farms. Currently, even when using Zynga’s FarmVille.com to play FarmVille, it still requires you to login to your FaceBook account.
Pakistan is known for banning popular internet sites including video sharing mega site YouTube.com, which was banned in Pakistan for long periods of time and is currently under a new ban because of reportedly hosting un-Islamic content. For now, the FaceBook ban is set to be in place until May 31st 2010 and an investigation is being conducted to determine why the FaceBook page’s competition is being held and if the ban should be extended to a longer period of time.
FaceBook has no intention to remove the controversial page and stands by its support of American “Freedom of Speech” amendment. In an official statmenet from FaceBook, while they were disappointed in the Pakistani court’s ruling, they announced,
“We strongly believe that Facebook users have the freedom to express their opinions, and we don’t typically take down content, groups or pages that speak out against countries, religions, political entities or ideas.”
In the meantime, concerned Pakistan FarmVille players, such as FarmVille Freak Awais Khan are wondering what will happen to their farms during the ban? Read FVFreak Awais’ email below:
“Hello Farmville Freak,
I am an avid famville player from Lahore, Pakistan. As you must know, Pakistan has banned the facebook site from today. Due to this, I an also unable to see my farm at farmville. Do you have any idea on how facebook/farmville is going deal with this issue because I dont want my farm to get ruined. Plus, I had seeded Irises today, and so much money is going to get wasted when the Irises wither. It would be great if you could provide any feedback on this issue. Thanks,
Awais Khan”
What are your thoughts about this? Should FaceBook remove the page? Should the FaceBook ban be removed? What are the options for FarmVille players in Pakistan?

I suggest the Pakistanis do as the Chinese have for many years to avoid governmental blocks of the websites they access. Aren’t there any creative sorts around?
The Mullahs have overreacted and are killing an entire site as opposed to blocking a single member. That’s like killing a gnat with a nuclear warhead.

Can’t You Play Farmville Through Msn? I Have Seen A Few Going Through Msn. But Not Sure If It Still Links To Facebook.

Get your facts straight youtube was only ban for a day even less then a day. and as far as facebook is concerned they did very wrong by supporting such event against our religion. this is facebook and turning out to be hatebook. so sad
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:40 am
NO!!! Dont take it down..it will only lead to others demanding this or that be takin down. IT IS ONLY A GAME….The right to say or express how a user feels is so much more important….I dont want to have to watch everything i say to a friend or contact…..Then what….we mite as well just close all our facebooks down ? I am sorry for the Pakistan farms….But THIS IS THE BIG PICTURE….MAYBE START A BUDDY FARM SYSTEM FOR THEM….SOME HOW WATCH THIER FARMS OR ZYNGA COULD SUSPEND THE MOVEMENT….LEAVE IT WHERE THE GAMER HAS LEFT OFF WHEN THE BAN IS LIFTED….SAY 30-90 DAYS?

All I can suggest is to buy some “Unwither” and use that when facebook comes back online. Or if you have a friend ou trust outside of your country allow them to harvest your irises when complete…
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:50 am
Best thing would be to use unwither on all the farms till the ban is lifted, or atleast list the pak users and create a new way to access farmville without connecting to facebook
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:50 am

Personally, I think that’s going WAAAAY too far. And @ Musa: first off, Facebook isn’t sponsoring or supporting this event or whatever … but they ARE standing behind a very AMERICAN idea (American based? Get it?), that people are free to say and do what they want within the law, so long as it causes no direct harm to another person. If the group were, for instance, advocating attacking Muslims or those who believe in Muhammad and Allah, then they would be within their rights and their DUTY to remove it. But actually, if Facebook were to remove this group, they could very well be faced with lawsuits for violating that same Freedom of Speech.
And as for banning every single aspect of Facebook because of one part of it … that’s one of the most retarded, over reactive, asinine things I’ve ever heard of!! With behaviors like that … ugh, I’m so so very glad I’m neither Pakistani nor Muslim!!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:55 am
i don’t get why these foreigners use FB anyways. it is an american site. FV is an american game. just like those that bitch about 7-11 not being in their country. america doesn’t cater to you people. we honestly don’t give a f**k about you. uptight religious fanatics. and before all you bleeding heart americans get on here and tell me i’m wrong, these so called neighbors of yours are the very same ones that would love to drop a bomb on us. pakistan, afghan, iraq, iran, korea, all of you can kiss my american ass.

@benny
what is freedom of speech???? there was a anti jew page and they took out in less then 20 mins!!! isnt that a discrimination against us??? i have no prob with US or any other country nor religion i have problem with individuals like you who clearly discriminate against us!!!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:00 am
@ Proud American: Um, actually, I was bitching myself about the 7-11 bit … the nearest one to me is two states over!! So, that’s not a foreign thing necessarily. And no, Facebook isn’t an AMERICAN site … it is an American BASED site … two entirely different things!!
I’m not a “bleeding heart”, not by a long stretch … but to categorize EVERY SINGLE MIDDLE-EASTERN as wanting to drop a bomb on us … you’re a moron, sorry. I have a number of friends who are Middle-Eastern, and they’d tell you the same thing. Just because there’s fanatics there … well, guess what? We’ve got fanatics, too! Sounds to me like you are way up there with them!!

Youtube was not banned for year. Blogger was for a while and even that died down after a while. As far as I know Facebook is banned till the 31st.
In any case I see people talk about freedom of speech a lot but it seems to be a very convenient one sided option.
For example try using the N work in front of an African American and see where that freedom of speech gets you. If there was 100% freedom of speech we would not have words like racists, homophobes, political correctness, etc. These words are there so you do not go an hurt the sentiments of certain groups. Either the same logic should apply to people trying to hurt the sentiments of muslims or it shoud be ok to be racist and homphobic without a back lash.
Wait wasn’t there some talk show host who gave some comment against the gay community and got bombarded with criticism – freedom of speech?

We don’t choose where to be born or what sort of government or regime we’ll end up living under and I feel so sorry for you Awais and all other farmville players who just want to enjoy something innocent that your government is punisihing you because it disagrees with content on a totally different part of fbook. If facebook did take the page down then they’d have to take thousands of pages down and where would it stop? We have a right to challenge religions, beliefs, views etc so long as we don’t use it as an excuse to judge or hate whole groups. There are pages/groups I loathe on facebook e.g. right wing/fascist group pages in the UK where I’m from and right wing fundamentalist Chrisitan pages from the USA but then others may not like what I believe. Facebook’s an open site and only extreme stuff like paedophile pages etc need to be removed. Good luck Awais, hope farmville gives you all an unwither or you trust someone outside Pakistan to care for your farm x

Couldn’t the add just be removed to users in Pakistan or for them to be allowed to log onto zynga without logging on to Face Book? All of those users shouldn’t be punished because of their government. I think that if something could be done to allow them access to zynga and still keep the add on for users in other countries to see it would stand up for rights of many.
I agree, I am lucky to be born American, But even in this country My children and I have been denied many of our rights. So I believe we should stand up for our rights. I also think that we should respect that other countries have their own laws to. I don’t think they are all good laws but we have some laws here that are wrong to. Our country is to screwed up to be passing judgment on other countries.
Making it possible for Pakistan to use zynga without breaking their laws or infringing on others rights would be the right thing to do. when you have worldwide groups there will be issues with differences in laws among the members.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:10 am
its times like this that make us americans realize that our country isn’t so bad. just because of some page on facebook, pakistan government childishly reacts and bans facebook. that is childish, and if they were smart, they would realize that facebook is an american company, therefore, as long as it doesn’t break any U.S. laws, its fine. but in pakistan.. man, if you step on an ant they will ban going outside! oh, and if someone gets a divorce, they’ll ban marriages. it seems that they get pissy and act like a 3 year old when they dont get their way or what they want. this isn’t directed to any pakistan citizens, i’m simply talking about their government. i feel sorry for those farmville players over there.

Lets understand that their government is not like ours and they don’t have the FREEDOM OF SPEACH like WE AMENRICANS DO! God Bless All Of The Zynga/FaceBook Fans!

A company should have the same rules for everyone or those rules have no meaning.

Any religion that punishes criticism with death threats and execution, advocates hatred, kills gays and lesbians, advocates enslavement of women and denies women any civil rights deserves criticism at the very least.
Bravo to the ” ‘Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!‘ group. Everyone should join this group to protest Islamic extremists’ threats and violence against past portrayers of Muhammad” and to protest the vile and disgusting evil that is Islamic religious extremism.
I feel sorry for the residents of Pakistan, being denied their freedoms by these lunatics. Bravo to Facebook for not folding to these them. Pakistanis should not be angry with Facebook but rather with their crazy religious nuts currently in power in their country.

Dear Proud American,
The World Wide Web is a European invention so, by your own warped logic, you should stop using it.
70% of Facebook users live outside the US so, in the interest of democracy, lets have a vote as to who should stop using Facebook….

kinda off the subject…i have played FV since it began last summer. i didn’t use this site untill a few months ago. did everybody get in an uproar when the halloween stuff came out? i’m just wondering if those that are religious (american and non) will get all riled up when zynga releases items that some might deem satanic. what do you other countries think of halloween? just wondering. i know that when they released the peace symbol stuff some people said it was satanic, which blew my mind. i didn’t come here for awhile after that cuz it made me think that the people that play this game are nuts. lol. halloween is my favorite btw….i can’t wait to see what they come up with this year cuz i loved all the stuff last year ( i own it all too )

I have a question i would like everyone to please answer ok?
Who knows ‘all the laws,,rules,,whatever they worship,,,etc for ‘every’ religion out in the world?,,
Matter of fact,,just how many out there know all the teachings of all the ‘religions’ in the US?
So how in the world does PAKISTAN think we should know it???????
Therefore,,I hope this email is sent to ‘whomever’ banned this country for the posting of the ‘pig’ ,,we don’t know if any of the other are ‘worshiped’ either’,,however,,if they do?,,They have not ‘complained ‘not once’! ,,and defiiealy not ‘banning’ their COUNTRY’ ,,from playing a game when they know nothing about ‘their ‘idol’ or whatever you call them,,they were put on here just as an ‘icon’ ‘only’,,and is BIG DEAL out of NOTHING!,,
The ONLY meaning was to be an ‘icon’,,understand???????,,ICON,,ICON ONLY!,,NOT TO PUT DOWN ANY ‘RELIGION’!!

Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:45 am
Wow. WOW. I just…seriously? Racists crawling out of the woodwork here. You people are disgusting. No wonder the US has a bad reputation, with bigots like you yelling your insanities the loudest.
Benny: Thank you for your service, but I don’t care if you were a Marine or the President himself, that doesn’t give you the right to spew hate and ignorance. ALL Muslims are out to kill us, right, we get it, paranoia is a great tool for fear mongering. But just think about that for a second. I’m sure there are plenty of Muslims (and Hindus, and Jews, and Christians, and Buddhists, and atheists, and believers of every other religion or nonbelievers) that think all Americans are fat, lazy xenophobes. While the ones who scream the loudest probably DO unfortunately fit that stereotype, would you agree that that’s a fair statement to make? Of course not. So why is it any more valid to say that ALL Muslims are evil and plotting against us? And don’t use the usual circular logic and say, “Because they’re Muslim and that’s what they do!” Until you have surveyed every single practicing Muslim on the face of the Earth and come up with a completely unanimous result, you can’t justify such broad condemnations.
Proud “American”: The same goes to you. Also, how dare you accuse ANYONE else of being “uptight religious fanatics”? Stones and glass houses, all that. Not to mention, religion typically breeds that kind of fervor, so there are “uptight fanatics” in EVERY religion. Every. Single. One.
Leatha: Buy a grammar book. Please. Or at least go back and finish third grade.
EM: This is another common fallacy when anyone brings up the “Free Speech is hypocritical!” argument. Free Speech, as defined by the Bill of Rights (which you evidently haven’t read very closely), extends only so far. Ethnic and sexual slurs fall under hate speech, and as such are excluded from Free Speech protection. THAT’s why (legally) you can’t “try using the N work in front of an African American.” To Musa, that’s why the Anti-Jew page (no idea what that was about, but I can guess, anyway) was taken down, because it would fall under hate speech by actively promoting intolerance and hatred of another person or group. Conversely, advocating a “draw pictures of such-and-such religious figure” day is in bad taste, but within the bounds of Free Speech protection. The people in charge of the group aren’t directly encouraging hatred of Muslims or religious intolerance, at least not on the surface, which is why the group cannot legally be held accountable for hate speech. If that “anti-Jew” page had…well, been named differently, for one, and if it had ONLY advocated something like, “Let’s all draw pictures of Yahweh!” or something similar, it wouldn’t have been removed, either. If this Muslim page said something to the effect of, “lolz lets sho those muslims how stoopid an backwrd they r an draw pics of muhamed take that towelheds lolololol” then there would probably be grounds for action against it. It’s admittedly a very fine line sometimes between what can still fall under Free Speech before it’s classified as hate speech. I can’t tell you that it’s “silly” to not want Mohammad depicted; personally, maybe just because I’m not religious myself, I don’t get why it’s such a big deal, but I don’t get a lot of things about most religions, and if that’s part of your faith then that’s totally okay. I don’t, of course, think it’s cool to order fatwas on cartoonists, but I DO think you’re within your rights to object to the pictures themselves. I just don’t think that there is legally anything you can do about it, because those cartoons, again, though in bad taste, aren’t directly (from an American legal standpoint) promoting hatred toward the religion or its followers.

Our rights are only our rights as long as they don’t infringe on someone else’s rights. If other people made fun of and condemned christianity like other religions it would not be accepted. Some christian’s need to read their bible and start living by the laws of their religion a little more. People need to be educated on the cultures and laws of other countries. And not all middle eastern people are terrorists. How would you like it if they called all of us murderers, rapists, baby killers, liars, ect. Have you seen the news in our country and our people are committing these acts against each other. Americans do worse to each other than any terrorist has done to us. So start worrying about what the guy down the street is going to do to you or your children, that’s more likely than a terrorist killing someone you know. None of it is right. But not all people of any culture are bad. Everyplace has bad people. DIscrimination is just another word for ignorance and goes against christianity. We need to worry about our own country. Just like I tell my kids worry about what you’re supposed to be doing not your sibling.
I totally believe in standing up for my rights but not against someone else’s. I am lucky to live in a free country but free is never free it comes at a price. I am thankful to all who have fought for our rights. But the people are also now paying the price. Everyone needs to step back and look at this country before it judges another.

To my FV friends ,
I have been very addicted to FV and playing from the start . Level 70 now , everything up todate. I belong to Pakistan . Being a muslim , i believe in Quran . Thats the teaching of Quran , that we have to respect other Holy books like Bible , Tooraat and the Holy prophets Jesus and Moses . A true muslim would never do something against . .
A clear fact , as you all can see above comments . Some of you (non-muslims) , are looking very nice , and some like benny and others , are seem to be ignorant . We respect Jesus and bible . And we expect you respect our Quran and Our Holy prophet , Muhammad .
I don’t care , whether my crops are being withered till 31st of May . Because my dignity is far above my farmland . I hope you understand . People need to read History . Muhammad , Peace be upon him , never taught the wrong thing. He was a True human being . And a Lesson for a Good human being ….
Take cares , regards … Taqdees Pervaiz, Level 70 farmer since January 2010.

This is the perfect expample how the things goes to worst and hatered, the initial post was simple from a pakistani to know if there is a possible way to access farmville without FB, but some peoples started abusing muslims and pakistan, thats shameful. i would not abuse anyone, as i have many friends from all over the world, and i already know that there are only few peoples who are trying to spread hate for muslims and pakistan.

Fact: The inventor of the “World Wide Web,” Tim Berners-Lee, was born in London, England.
Fact: Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004. Mark was raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, United States of America. Therefore, how is it that some of you believe Facebook should not be used by anyone in America?
Fact: There is only one “race” in the world, it is the HUMAN race, so grow up rather than making yourselves out to be more immature than you are on here.
Fact: In the United States, the Constitution clearly gives Americans the right to freedom of speech, and also the right to have freedom of religion. Not everyone must share the same religion and not everyone must abide by the ideologies of others. However, throughout the history of the United States, equality has been under much scrutiny, and will remain the topic of much debate in the future as well.
For those of you on here who are disrespecting someone because of his or her race, ethnicity, cultural upbringing, or religion, you should look at the top right hand corner of your screen, and then click the small “x” that is located there. In other words, if you have nothing civil to say, then perhaps you should not say anything at all. Some of the things said on here, evidently with no thought or respect shown to others, is only making the disrespectful people who said those things out to be more ignorant than they realize.
As for the issue with Pakistan blocking Facebook over a fan page, regardless of that specific fan page’s content, I do not believe that punishing the entire population in any country in such a manner is an acceptable manner to properly address the situation.
Demanding that Facebook remove the content would be unfair to the person who posted the content. No one physically forces people to view online content that he or she does not wish to view on a social networking website. Furthermore, if someone finds the content posted on someone’s profile offensive, there is a small “x” at the top right hand corner of the screen, in which would easily enable that person to remove themselves from viewing what he or she defines as offensive.
As for losing an entire crop because you are not able to access your farm, that is why it is important to have an “Unwither” handy, and to ensure you have at least one available to you. I do not believe Zynga should give people unwithers freely, not because of where he or she resides, or in predicaments such as this where it is clearly not the fault of Zynga or Farmville. However, even if you do not have an unwither available, a good farmville neighbor would be willing to help you by sending you an unwither. When you can access your farm again, your neighbors will most likely see that you haven’t had access to your farm, and you can ask for their help.
Additionally, Zynga could come up with an option so farmers can help his or her neighbors in other ways. For instance, allow players to unwither 5 plots on neighbors farms without charging the player, rather than allowing the option to fertilize 5 plots on a neighbors farm when there are withered crops on farms. This concept seems appropriate in any case.

As far as I know, I believe it was the Americans that flew over Japan and bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed hundreds of thousands of INNOCENT people so that argument’s a bit flawed

They could ask their non pakistani neighbors to tend their farms for them while they are away. If they can get hold of them without facebook. Maybe someone needs to set up a page somewhere that they could get in touch with one another.

I am shocked by the hatred spewed in this discussion and the complete lack of respect for fellow human beings. How does being proud to be an American translate into being disrespectful, insulting, discriminatory and downright rude to others? We all love playing the same game, a game based on working together and helping your neighbors. Some of our neighbors are not able to play that game and that’s a shame. Whether or not we understand or agree with the reason is irrelevant. The American government has also been known to make decisions that many others in the world strongly disagree with. That is no reason to insult individual American citizens. Nor does the Pakistani government’s decision give reason to insult Muslims. I am very disappointed that comments full of such rude hatred are to be found here and would have hoped for more understanding and common courtesy from fellow Farmvillers.
Also I am getting very fed up with the attacks on spelling and language. An amazing number of Farmville players are not from English speaking countries. We should admire the fact that they can and do write in English instead of insulting them for the fact that their grasp of a foreign language is not impeccable. I’m sure that their English is much better than most complainer’s French, Italian, Spanish, Urdu, Arabic etc.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 3:55 am
lol u`ve done been asked once ??? learn our language before you threaten Americans u fat ugly mustache on ur lip biatch !
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 4:06 am
The 9/11 and similar attacks were horrific. But look at the numbers of children in this country that are hurt in so many ways. Genocide was probably the worst crime I can think of.
Actually the american people got this country through terrorism. Our people came in and took it over. We didn’t have planes and bombs back then or they probably would have been used. Terrorists are not always foreign. the shootings at schools. bombings of courthouses. I am sickened by the amount of violence I see happening in the whole world.
The main point is the fact that violence is everywhere. You can’t blame all people for the crimes of their country or religion. The people that are to blame are the ones that commit the acts. We need to learn to accept each other for our differences. Americans should be the one’s to get that the most after all we are a mix of many different people. If people learned more about other cultures there would be more understanding. It also seems that during many different times there is a race or religion of people that are set apart and used as the scapegoat, Now people from the middle east are those people that are being singled out and labeled. It’s totally wrong. It reminds me of school kids singling out a few kids to make fun of and bully around. Only a lot worse. every country has different cultures and religions and different laws. Everyone is different. learn about a person and their culture and religion before you decide to judge them.

Leatha, Can I please ask you how many people died in the 9-11 incident and how many have paid the price in return? Did you ever count the innocent lives that were taken during American attacks on Afghanistan? The so called surgical strikes were never that surgical…villages were wiped out, children were killed. Way more people paid a price for something God only knows who orchestrated in the first place.
And let us not forget who dropped the first nuclear bomb. How many people were killed in that. Does that even compare to the numbers from 9-11?
What I am saying is everyone has paid the price of war so lets start talking about peace for once. And respect of other people and their beliefs.
You are saying there is no way you can know of others beliefs .. fine point taken. But if someone does not, then why are they picking that religion in the first place. If you are going to pick a topic or a person to make cartoons off, then have the decency to first research especially when you know it is related to religion and will touch nerves. For that matter why not just stay away from another’s religion in the first place?
If ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it then ignorance of another’s religion is not either especially when you are the one going out of your way to ridicule.
How many of you here will stand for it if someone started making fun of the 9-11 incidence and making cartoons of blody people falling off buildings?? It will touch nerves, won’t it? Not to mention can one then hide behind ooops I am sorry I had no idea Americans would be offended.

I agree with FB when they say that FACEBOOK is a freedom of speech.
A group of people who reside in Pakistan and India, although I live in India, have no other work but to protest against anything and everything. I think FB should not remove the page.
Because if you let a minority of people rule then this minority will change into majority so ignore!!!!!!!!! And tough luck to those…….

Proud American: Sh*t up your F*cking mouth dude!!! America is not the center of the world. The fact Facebook and FV are so famouse is because half of the players are NOT form America. So stop thinking America is the only and best country in the entirw world.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 5:49 am
It is very disappointing to see the hateful and intolerant comments above. As one person comment, freedom of speech is subjective to the audience.
The issue is not about freedom of speech anyway, it is about respect. Pakistan has a right to make any law they want that applies within the boundary of their own boarders, just as the USA is. So while you may not agree with the law, then you should at least respect that they have the right.
As to the content that caused the issue, think about how you would feel if a spiritual figure from your religion was depicted in a very distasteful manor, would you not also be outraged. Again it is about respect, while I do not believe in religion myself, I respect the deeply held beliefs of others and would not intentionally disrespect them.
If there any any Farmville Freaks from Pakistan that would like some assistance with running their farm during the ban, please let me know, would be happy to help out.

HOORAHHHHHHHHHHHH FARMVILLEFREAKS, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!

So facebook is banned eh? Good Job Pakistan! I don’t think every one is a bomber. In fact I know there are many good people out there. However, if you are offended by a page or cartoon on OUR site just remember we are just as offended by you wanting to build a mosque close to the 9/11 on ironically Sept. 11th. Long live freedom of speech, Long live America. I don’t participate or even care about any religion that promotes violence and hate towards a certain group of people. I hope they ban it forever.

for the pepole who think islam n muslims r terrorist!!!
The Last Sermon of Prophet Muhammad
“Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds.”
This sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H. in the ‘Uranah valley of Mount Arafat’ (in Mecca).
After praising, and thanking God he said:
“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. God has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. God has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn ‘Abd’al Muttalib (Prophet’s uncle) shall henceforth be waived…
Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.
O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under God’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
O People, listen to me in earnest, worship God, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.
Remember, one day you will appear before God and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.
O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and my example, the Sunnah and if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O God, that I have conveyed your message to your people”.

I believe in a place were all people live in harmony but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon now is it. No, I didn’t think so. But the thing is why does it matter what religion someone is. What The Pak Gov did is wrong. But The thing is I can understand why did they did it. It would be hard to single out one person out of a group that did something wrong. When that one person or group wont come out and say they did it. But the thing of it is I do feel sorry for the innocent ones. Just like in life “Sometimes the good people get punished.” It stinks royally when this happens. But does happen everyone that lived more then 2 years in life knows it has. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. That is what I was trying to say before. It is wrong when this happens. But does happen. Just chalk it up and know God, Karma, Allah or what ever you believe in will get you back later. I know it is hard to do when you got stuff going on and you had nothing to do with anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As far as 911 goes. I don’t have much to say on that because if i do I will be getting a bad feed back. That in self is a touchy subject. As far as this whole thing goes it really is all a touchy subject.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Awais Khan, I am sorry this had to happen to you. I hope you God Allah will grant you with something that will help you on the farm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Huggles to all the ones that didnt make a childish comment.
No matter how you look at it, the situation does suck for the innocent Pakistanis who want to play Farmville. However, the government has the right to ban those sorts of things, especially in protest to something that threatens something so integral to their society. Not all countries have a separation of church and state (and even our ‘separation’ is questionable). Facebook doesn’t monitor it’s content unless it’s deemed pornographic, from what I can see, and even then -anyone- can start a group or fan page entitled pretty much whatever they want to call it.
It makes me sad that somebody thought it would be funny (or was ignorant enough to think that this idea would end terrorism of any sort). Islam has one of the world’s biggest followings, including a good portion of the US. A lot of people who practice Islam aren’t even Arab. When everybody knows that religion is a touchy subject, it’s just never a good idea to try and fuel that fire. People who aren’t religious may never be religious, but that doesn’t mean they should be making fun or looking down on those who do have a system of beliefs. Whoever made that group did it in very poor taste and likely offended a lot of people who have nothing to do with the Middle East or terrorism directly. I am Catholic, and though I don’t strongly follow the Bible, it still pains me to see Jesus on a Family Guy episode, for example. It’s uncomfortable for me, as a somewhat religious person, to watch someone else poke fun at it. I am not always proud to be an American, because a lot of Americans are ignorant and intolerant of other people. Don’t get me wrong–I don’t support war or terrorism of any sort, but Islam is NOT just a religion for extremists who blow planes and buildings up. There are a lot of genuine, good people who have also chosen this religion as their own.
This whole thing was just done in terribly poor taste. I am sure facebook access will be returned once the Pakistani government feels it has made it’s point. In the meantime, I hope other farmers will help these players out.
Benny pwnd ‘em ! Great job !
Do you really think that Facebook/Farmville care about several arabs with AK47 in their hands and their “Holly Graal” (their bible, whatever is called) near them ?! NO ! It’s almost a third world country.
If I was Zynga, I wouldn’t care about it =)
Just my 2 cents.
this is bad for some people!! I follow Islam!!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 8:20 am
Wow, the ignorance in these comments are astounding, simply astounding.
First of all, “Draw Mohammad Day” is NOT about disrespecting any religion. It is about standing up for our freedom, as Americans, to express ourselves without fear of being shot and stabbed to death when we leave our houses. Just because we depict the Islamic prophet, does not, in any way, imply the intent of disrespect. There are many, many things that Americans do that may offend someone else in another country. And the same can be said for things other countries do things that offend Americans (female genital mutilation and executions for homosexuals in African countries, oppression of a population in totalitarian countries, etc.) BUT that does not mean that we censor the viewpoints of those who engage in those activities. That is exactly what our Freedom of Speech means.
Addressing the comments above regarding the obviously ignorant and hate-fueled derision of the Muslim faith, THIS is why people in other countries hate us. Maybe, if we could stop acting like children, and grow up, we could make the situation better, rather than worse. Our men and women in uniform aren’t fighting and dying so that we can act like we’re functionally (barely for some of the above) retarded.
Now, as far as the misunderstanding from the Pakistani commenters, our values as Americans say that YES, you may disrespect our religious figures, YES, you may insult our families. We may not enjoy reading it or hearing it, but you have that RIGHT to do it. If you don’t like what you see or hear, then move on, go to another page. If it offends you that much, stop playing Farmville and using Facebook, its that simple. We refuse to limit our rights that so many have died for, simply because people somewhere have an issue with what those rights grant us. That’s why its called Freedom.
Hey guys, thanks to all the ppl who offered help.. really means a lot.
However, some people have just blown this out of proportion.
Thanks FarmvilleFreak for publishing my post, and giving us such an excellent platform to discuss Farmville.
Here’s to the early return of Farmville to Pakistan.
This shows how lucky and privileged we are to live in the FREE U.S.A. When the government demands things, and takes away people’s rights, things can go terribly wrong, terribly fast. At least we here in the U.S.A. have the CHOICE to boycott whatever we want, whenever we want. I am so sorry for the Pakistani people who just want to play Farmville, and don’t pay attention to the exact happenings on Facebook itself.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 8:44 am
This is AWESOME news! Now if the pakistan government just blocks itself from the entire internet, they would be doing everyone a favor. Its well known that pakistan is the breeding grounds for violent terrorists. Maybe they can even build a wall around their whole country so they can just rot happily. Terrorists in Pakistan are state sponsored. as was evident in the Times square plot, and the attacks in Bombay. Besides i don’t want some moron blowing up my farm in farmville, because i have a cartoon graffiti on my barn wall or because i have a bunch of pigs.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 9:33 am
This is exactly what the Nazi’s were like, ‘my way or the highway’.
I’m sure there is content on facebook that I would find offensive if I went and looked for it, but I don’t.
These people are blinkered and because they don’t like a part of something they have to immediately ban the whole thing!
Anyone remember the episode of The Waltons where they had a book burning of all books written in German? John Boy plucked a book from the fire and it turned out to be the Bible!
Besides, when you ban something it just becomes all the more tempting to do it!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 9:35 am
Intention is EVERYTHING and there are nice intentions and not-so-nice intentions. What was the intent behind the “Draw Mohammad Day”? Apparently, based on what has happened, some of the intent was to judge or to spank a particular group. So FB got that intention right back.
I believe that to blast ANY group is just asking for trouble. If FACEBOOK allows the deliberate downgrading or the making fun of any group or religion, even in the name of “free speech”, then I believe that is an abuse of freedom of speech. If we treat all peoples with respect and do not allow or tolerate any abuse of any race, group, etc., then FB would be a good example of such a perspective. Either we all treat each other with respect or we join biased groups. In which category does FACEBOOK want to be considered? I joined because I thought it was the former that championed good friendships and respectful relationships. The future handling of these issues will tell the story . . .
When you can not express your own view on anything you are being controled! Like wise when anything is banned because someone does not want you to see it you are being controled! You should have the right to view and speak about anything! Even if you think that what they are saying is inlightened or crap you should still get to make up your own mind! View points are view points! When you speak your mind you might change theres or Who knows they might change yours!
Have someone farm your farm from outside Pakistan. I do it all the time for friends that travels or family members and when I am travelling a friend or my sisters do the farming for me.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 10:05 am
I’m beginning to notice a trend. It’s “ok” to attack mainstream America, but if you do ANYTHING that offends anyone else anywhere, suddenly you are politically incorrect, unenlightened, narrow-minded…and worse. I can’t believe all this attention is being given to this decision by Pakistan, especially when the page in question doesn’t advocate any sort of Pakistan-specific action or present a threat to Islam or its followers. It’s ok apparently to make fun of the Catholic church & its recent scandals, but heaven help you if you say something negative about anything remotely Moslem? I don’t see anything wrong with any of it as long as its not advocating violence against a particular group for whatever reason.
As for making special arrangements for people in Pakistan over this, I don’t see where Zynga (or anyone else) has any obligation to do so. Totalitarian governments have been practicing censorship for a long time, whether they are based on political ideals or religious ones is irrelevant really. Does anyone get their shorts in a bind over the sites that are blocked by other political entities for just as little reason? There is a reason why I am glad to be an American and why most of the rest of the world is trying to get INTO the USA. I haven’t heard of many cases of people trying to illegally emigrate OUT of the USA, have you? And for the person that claimed the internet was a European invention, I can only laugh.
I greatly appreciate the freedoms we still have in the USA, even though they are considerably more curtailed than they were for our grandparents. I can feel sorry for those in situations with restrictive, totalitarian governments, but I have no desire to move there either!
In this day and age, the most effective means for the average citizen to pressure governments to change is via economic boycotts. Quit whining on boards that they never read, and instead get pro-active to promote a boycott of Pakistan originating goods & services. I suppose economic boycotts are the new & improved version of shunning, an agent long used to ensure people conformed to societal norms.
Benny Says:
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:50 am
Hey muslim countries…..UR GOVERNMENT SUCKS !!!!!! when are u nice people going to figure that one out. THEY controll you, THEY make you do silly things…AND HELL….THEY WONT EVEN LET U FARM !!!!!! how can u live like that….
Benny I agree with you, but you have to realize what choices does a commoner have? I guess an ordinary person can’t do anything against his country’s government all by himself. The actual thing in Pakistan is “LACK OF UNITY”; as all of you know, Unity is strength. People here in Pakistan don’t even think about uniting against this stupid Government. Can you believe? The president of Pakistan is actually a Robber. He had above 200 Cases on his head while he won elections. He killed his own wife and his party collected the sympathy of nation and finally got enough votes to become a Leading Party of Pakistan. THIS REALLY SUCKS! They needed every facebook user of Pakistan to educate on HOW TO BLOCK CERTAIN PAGES. Boycott only makes a thing more popular and that is whats happening with that Page.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 10:09 am
Pakistan is one of the reasons why we have terrorist. Plus a boy in Australia got bashed by a group of muslims because his mother made him a beef sandwich & it was some day for muslims where they don’t eat meat or something so they bashed him. They are one of the worst kinds of religions around same with Scientology. A world without religion would be ideal how many Atheist do you see blowing up buildings just to get into heaven.
i really enjoying reading all these comments…….
please carry on, so that others will also enjoying the making fun of your religions and your country too………
Farmville should create another portal for these people, so they can access their farms without having to log onto Facebook.
Perhaps they should be able to access their farms using MySpace or through Zynga.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 10:35 am
Is there anyone Muslim or Pakistani here
Facebook is not only banned in Pakistan its also banned in other Muslim countries but other country players do not play farmville much so no one gave any email.
Benny is totally wrong about freedom of speech yes you can speak for yourself but not to any other person or religion.The 9-11 was the fault of america they created the Terrorists by getting help from Afghani’s to fight against Russia.
Do you Americans even know that what religion you are in?????
If u are Christians you should know that u also believe in that Prophet but u are so illiterate that u have never read bible.
Even i know more about your religion than you do.
Benny you should SHUT UP
I don’t believe in my hearts that this is an anti anything page, Draw a cartoon of your the Islam’s Holy Man to protest violence – How is that compared to a Anti-Semite page where you Hate against a group of people? (Protest vs. Hate is very different) I think what the page is trying to say is “LIGHTEN UP.”
I will also say Facebook really should look into in own policies – recently a “FAN Page” was taken off their site for the use of the word, “FAG”
Come on FB, don’t you think this page in this topic is just slighty offensive?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 10:43 am
Wow… a lot of self-expression gone bad. Its funny as fxck, everyone’s opinion that is. But guys come one, there is no need to insult people who have different beliefs. Its sad to see the news of the blockage but I agree with many here the “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day! ” web page should not be banned and in my opinion the Anti-Jewish page shouldn’t have been bond either.
Without self expression the United States would be yet another country living under dictatorship, we have freedom to be ourselves. Sadly many countries are stuck under harsh governments and religion plays a big part in this but I believe the Facebook page in question did nothing wrong. It is freedom of expression through artistic means and if Muslim governments feel the need to block then do so but why block a whole site for one silly page?
As a male homosexual American I know for a fact that self-expression leads people into trouble and at times can be used in hurtful means but you know what? I prefer freedom over living in a place where people have jurisdiction over me. Not FB page should be banned unless it is those that violate privacy rights and/or display pornographic content.
On the topic of religion… well here is what I think on this subject and believe me I make use of my freedom of speech:
Why must people feel the need to look up to a higher power? We are at the top of the food-chain! The rules of life are simple. You’re born. You live a long life (some longer than others) and then you die. No matter how much of your time and sanity you waste worshiping a figure, whether it be Allah, Muhammad, La Virgin de Guadalupe, Budda, Ra, Jaguar, or Jesus Christ; you will not be reincarnated or purified of your sins! There is no heaven and hell. There was no Adam and Eve or any other figures that were created by a god. The Bible, the Qur’an, the Ho Ho Ben, etc… they all contain text written buy mankind. Text that has been written, edited and rewritten for hundreds of years, depicting a higher power that doesn’t exist.
What is power? The only power I know of is the government. You want power? Go to law school and dedicate the best years of your life toward a goal of becoming a judge in the supreme court or whatever equivalent there is in your respective country. Become the next president, emperor, dictator and you will have power…. If you disagree with me than fine, to each his own but I rather be happy than be brainwashed by a religion. In the Muslim religion woman are inferior to their husband in more ways than one and have to wear clothing that displays very little skin (WHICH I IMAGINE CAN BE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DURING HOT SUMMER DAYS) .. The Jewish aren’t allowed to enjoy the pleasures of an intimate relationship because their religion doesn’t allow them to see each other in the nude and/or enjoy sex the right way. The bible degrades homosexuality and labels it a sin. Wtf? If your god is so perfect why was I born a sinner? Because I was born as I am you know! The way I see it there’s to sides. Religion (Limitations/Discrimination) and Happiness (Farming/Freedom/Love)…
And anyways back to the main topic. The Ban. Zynga should use this dilemma as the inspiration to create an alternate login function. One that does not link to Facebook that the people of Pakistan could use to access their farms through farmville.com while the ban is active. Because not doing so will only result in their losing profit because there are people in Pakistan who buy farm cash and right behind Pakistan, other Muslim countries are bound to join the boycott. Otherwise they will screw us players over and raise the prices of FV$ items due to the lost of profit the ban presents to them.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 10:54 am
I’ve seen the page and it’s really gross and offensive. I totally understand that Muslims would be upset, Millions of fundamentalists in the US would be just as angry if these had been jokes and images about Jesus.
At the same time I believe that freedom of speech means freedom for all speech, even the stupid, offensive and downright pornographic.
I’m actually impressed that facebook has not backed down (yet). They could have just banned the page, instead they got banned and they loos a lot of advertising money. Maybe they have more backbone than thought.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:05 am
Before I say anything, I haven’t seen this page and I don’t want to. But here’s something I don’t understand. Its okay for Muslims to make hate pages about anything they like and when some kid with nothing better to do starts a fan page as a joke and ends up getting millions of fans, facebook is banned from the COUNTRY? Why is that? There has to be reason people are out to offend Muslims like that. And do people really think that banning Facebook from the country is the answer? Wake up, seriously. People are gonna do what they want and say what they want. Freedom of speech and expression is given to people for a reason. Boycotting facebook isn’t gonna get anyone anywhere. Ban the person who started it if anything, and move on with life. Gosh.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:06 am
Here’s an idea: get over it. Being offended by another’s speech or thoughts or habits doesn’t get you anywhere and, guess what, those words, thoughts and habit don’t impact the way you live your life unless you let it. Wow. Imagine that.
Unless what someone is doing is directly and negatively impacting your life, you need to stop worrying about them and live your life the way you want.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:10 am
How disappointing yet not surprising the racism and anti-tolerance that runs through here.
Regardless of free speech, hate speech is an entirely different thing and I hope the moderators take note.
I’m about to unfan this page. Really. At least the mods over ant Fanatic don’t allow hate speech. Way to go FVF.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:18 am
I read about half the comments and got nauseated.
Before I state my views, I am in Indian, and we hate Pakistanis more than Americans. And no I am not a Muslim.
Well as for Facebook and Zynga being American companies, that is a good point, but considering that both have development offices everywhere in the world, so sorry Americans, you dont own Facebook and Zynga, and we the “non-american” people of the world, “CAN” be “ALLOWED” to play. Farmville is a game based on agriculture, and as much as know agriculture exists all over the world, even before America existed.
All the Americans here who are crying about Pakistan here, please do google (or whatever search engine you use) and find who gives billions of dollars of aid to Pakistan…yeah dear old Uncle Sam. And someone mentioned Taliban also. Guess who created Taliban, wiki some and you will find the answer again as Uncle Sam.
@Benny, wow, i am impressed so impressed that you are an ex-marine. Thanks to your language and mannerism in this post, I wll also believe everything I read about POW abuse by American soliders without thinking twice.
Religion is a personal matter to all of us. If you dont question it and make it your be all then you are doomed. I come across a lot of hate pages in Facebook, I either ignore or report them, but its cyber space, its not my real life that I will not make it an issue of contention.
Freedom of speech is a good thing as long as it doesnt tread on anyone’s toes.
The ban is childish to say the least, but countries where religion is not a belief but a way of life, this is expected.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:19 am
“Freedom of Speach” does not excuse insulting the beliefs of millions of people. Facebook may be an American network, but they have members all over the world, from all kind of religions ansd ethics. They should know that this makes them an International Platform, thus requiring at least a minimum of diplomacy in handling such matters.
In the half year I am a member to facebook I have seen some pages that are hateful or insulting to specific members of society or ethnic groups etc. In every forum so far I was a member of there are moderators or admins who would delete such posts and even ban the member(s) who postet it. They make sure that we tolerate each other. Where are the mods on facebook, doing that? Will they even tolerate nazis spreading their hateful opinions, as it is, after all, only “Freedom of Speach”?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:24 am
Can’t we all just get along?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:33 am
In Pakistan Right of speech is much better than other countries.
Our media is the most independent and not biaz.
Pakistan gov didnt banned facebook till protest from Pakistani peoples.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 11:46 am
@AAA : yeah right . Can you please tell me of the 63 years since Pakistan has been a country, how many years has it been a democratic country? Unbiased media, yeah right. Just because you like what your media tells you, doesn’t mean its unbiased. It just means your media is sucking up to your sense of false nationalism.
And yes i’ve seen the reports where your media claims India staged the 26/11 attacks on itself and denied that the terrorists were from Pakistan. Well i am sure that you still believe the same. That you’re a noble free democratic country , has nothing to do with terrorism, and the whole world is out to show you in bad light.
hi! i play mafia wars [not farmville] , but as both the games are run by zynga via f.b , so i would like to participate in the discussion.
ive accounts over level 1000 and when i use proxy to enter f.b [java script becomes disabled , only then i can login ] , i cant post a comment on f.b , neither does mafia wars.com detect that ive logged in , so i cant play via mafia wars.com eventhough ive logged into f.b
#
can some1 help me in some good proxies , which are java enabled? mobile option has also been blocked today
#
ive my access code— mafia wars should help us login via mafia wars.com if we can post our f.b account email address there , instead of f.b login page
===
i dont think that the ban would be removed in the near future , as these people dont have any friends/relative to remain in contact with , abroad.
wikipedia is used frequently by me as im a student and to my amazement it has also been blocked!
pakistan can use its recources on 1 thing– either on fighting taliban or providing education to the lower socioeconomic class
HI i am playing farmville for last more than 6 months, i am a level 70 farmer with 300 neighbours, i ahve neighbours from all the countries including America, i don’t know why few peoples here are taking it as a debate between america and pakistan, we have nothing to do with America, we didn’t blocked FB becuase it is from America, but because it is promoting and not blocking a group that is creating and spreading hate and racism about religions, for Muslims the prophets are more sacred to us then anything, so if you are making vulger caricatrures about them then we cannot accept and tolerate it. If you want freedom of speech please try some topics that don’t hurt any specific religion or a specific country. And let me tell you one more thing, you will see that FB is going to back out with an appology and going to block all the contents that are reported to them by Muslims. As everyone with a little common sense can see that this is not freedom of speech but a preplanned conspiracy and the targets are all muslims.
Some islamic student movement, islamic organization and some muslim political party also try to gather support for banning and block the YouTube and Facebook because of this similar issues (the Fitna movie, the Prophet drawing and etc) … trust me they try so many time, including banning people to keep Dog as a pet, but it never work
o yeah!
thx good our secular government did it right (this time only, i repeat this time only!
but not in real macro economic terms
) they just send the letter to YouTube and Facebook about their concern about this issues. I think it also because those religion based party only had less than 20% seat in our parliament.
However at the end every people should respect other people believe, religion and also behave wisely with their freedom of speech.
Since this kind of issues (cartoon drawing, fitna movie) is a very good “propaganda” Tool for Radical Mulsim group to make an excuse with their terrorism act, they gonna said “hey we defend our religion from those infidel and those liberal people” trust me we had enough, we got 6 bomb attack 3 in Bali 3 Jakarta in last 5 years killing more than 500 people including 300 foreigner ruining our economy badly!
at the end, as an Secular person, i just want to said, yes we have a freedom to speech, freedom to expresses our self, but we are also want to be respected and doesn’t want to be insulted. So why we just plow our garden and give our golnden retriver treat ?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
sunni shiate muslims all kill eachother in what name? for what reason ? hipocryte religion like any other
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:22 pm
thats the problem u dont have rights!!!!! u dont have right to invade other country u dont have right to say bad words to ur parents, u dont have right to defame others religion. we Muslim love Jesus and Muhammad and Moses. The problem is discrimination against us. As if there is something said about halucast it is deleted in no time so stop saying it is freedom of speech and it is american dream coz it is not :p
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
I dont care about jew or halucast. i am giving u example that there is a limit on freedom of speech. If being american u cant deny halucast then stop saying u have freedom of speech!!! get it???
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:27 pm
discriminating by drawing a picture? muhammed would laugh at u ppl if he was alive and be ashamed to what has happened to this religion .
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
@Daniel Get your religions straight. Muslims do not have any issues with eating beef on any day. Hindus on the other hand believe the cow to be a sacred animal.
So if this is the naivety with which people view religion, no wonder half the people have no idea what they are talking about.
Thank you everyone of you who has talked positively and kept away from abusive language and talked sense.
Freedom of speech does not mean you go and abuse someone. When you go out of your way to do that, then it is abuse of the freedom you have been given.
I remember reading about this American talk show host who insulted some black woman and even apologized but he still got fired. Is this the American’s definition of freedom of speech then? What happened to his legal right to freedom of speech that apparently is a part of the American constitution? Or is this just another case of double standards?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:31 pm
its about limit of respect and love. u cant understand. u can never understand :p
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
Musa : Please check your facts before speaking . Holocaust denial is not a crime in the US. you will not be arrested even if you say it on television in the USA. There are many holocaust deniers in the USA
You can also say NIGGER . Have you even seen any hollywood movies? Its not illegal, but if you happen to get killed , thats not because its of the law , its just because you were stupid to say the wrong thing at the wrong place to the wrong person.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:32 pm
@Musa
holocaust is the spelling, and even though i am not an american, i am pretty sure denying holocaust is not a crime in the US. Unless off course you are a foreign dignitary who is also going to deny homosexuality in the same breathe. Denying Holocaust was not the crime in that situation, stupidity was.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
@Sarmad, I assume you are a muslim. Then why this name calling? Just because someone does something wrong does not mean that you become just as bad as they are. If you are going to tell the world that you and your religion should be treated with respect then please treat the world with the same respect … yes even when they are not doing so. If you are defending the Prophet, then also act like him. And I say this to all muslims who have been using abusive language up there.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
its funny that ive a valid game problem and all of u guys are fighting over religion.. ive read both the bible and the quran — and 90% of the teachings are the same… no quran has not been edited, its the same all over the world– loving and respecting all prophets and people of the book, and humanity as a whole is the fundamental cornerstone of islam–
90 percent of muslims dont have beards, so why the wrong stereotype?
if u really want to understand religions, read the 2 books once and you will grow respect for all of them–
taliban is now being sponsered by other countries, have u ever wondered from where they are getting ammo?
ive seen the page — and in its intro it says ”to piss and hurt some people off” —isnt that hate speech?
im a docter , and i was dumbfounded by the embryology events described in the quran , which were not accepted by embyologists untill 20 years from now..
so dont discuss a faith if u havent read there book , just because of there different country or different language..
=
btw i need to play mafia wars!!!– new episodes have been released 2 days back.. what a bummer…
I do not believe in any god, nor am i from America or Pakistan but i think that everybody can think what they want, even if you dont like it. And Yes some of the americans are racists, but not all. And all the muslims shouldnt be hated because of what some people did. And for everybody not being able to acces your farm, i feel with you.
I am 13 and i am smarter then most of you, i respect every religion, only not the people that dont respect anything else than they believe in!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 12:59 pm
come on guys !!!
i am not a religious person but my wife is Yemen decedent and she is a muslim. I drink wine, beer and eat pork but i didint eat and drink in front of her during ramadan the fasting month. She also still serving me a glass of wine and jar of bear even thou she didn’t drink alcoholic beverages!
the point is, respect each other, and everything is going to be fine, if you cant tolerate the differences so you are not grown up and well educated enough. or maybe you must started by put the 2 word on your head. 1. is not your business 2. is not my business …
i believe Christian, Muslims, Buddhist, Jewish, Hindu, Kong Fu Tse and other 100 billion other religion are teaching love and respect the differences .. and people who ruining all the religion is the EXTREMIST and IDIOT person that they think they are the HOLLY WARRIOR OF GOD and have a right to decide what is right and wrong based his own judgment ! nuff said
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
@Musa, u r a moron…seriously…u r dumb enough not to use a spell checker, and make the same spelling mistake like 10 times, n then try to be sarcastic when someone points it out to you.
And yeah, denying holocaust is in the picture…HOW? I mean seriously, there is a page/group on a social networking website, which doesn’t respect a religion so an entire country bans the website. And here you are trying to link what with what. Its logically not binding.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
@Indonesian Ducati Riders thats what i said
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Ferdy : can you define ‘respect’ ?
If my religion believes that we should just kill anyone who abandons their faith. would you respect it?
what exactly do you mean by respect? You mean not criticizing their beliefs? there are religions that believe in mistreating women. there are holy books that say one should stone homosexuals to death.
Do you respect those religions?
‘I respect all religions equally’ is a total BS statement. Maybe when you’re older you’ll understand the intricacies of this. Since you’re only 13, i guess you deserve some slack.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
This is the most repulsive thread I’ve ever seen on this website. Some of you people should be ashamed of yourselves!!!
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:13 pm
I respect that they think that, but i dont agree. And it has to be within some laws. But in some things i think you should be able to decide yourself, like homosexuals should be allowed to be what they are, and woman should have more right. But i believe that they will release it whitout our help, we will just make them mad…
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:16 pm
@smita woho gal u r women so act like a lady and stop calling names. i really dont care abt the spelling of halucast so stop correcting me. it is freedom of speech get it :p lol
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
we got more muslim than pakistan – over 220 million muslim live in here, but learn from our past experience, religion based conflict, bomb blast, and now we understand why we should respect other religion, ethnic and political view. No wonder why more people vote secular party over religion based party. Coz we had enough, being racist, being fascist and being extremist is just bringing you down to your own destruction.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
@smita yes they both are different things yet very similar. if u deny halucast u r imprisoned coz many of jews get offended by it. same way if u make such pictures we muslim get offended by it. and those who say its just a imagine they can never understand. it is hight of respect and love for someone people like u can never understand in million years
Whatever is being published about our PROPHET PBUH, please stop all, as human beings are not allowed to do SO. You all will understand on the Day Of Judgment. Please STOP, before it is too late.
If my religion believes that we should just kill anyone who abandons their faith. would you respect it?
@Jimmy I hope you are not talking about Islam because if you are then you have a very twisted view and I have no idea where you got it from. Have you ever even read the Quran? How can you sit there and put false information about a religion you have not even researched? And by research I mean reading about the actual religion and not listening to the media’s view of it.
@Sarmad Anger is a human emotion but remember how the Prophet dealt with abuse towards him … with patience, not with anger. People used to throw stones and garbage at him, they used to place thorns in his path but he never retaliated. Nor did his companions. A lady who used to throw garbage on him everyday missed a day. He got worried and went to ask about her health. That is who our Prophet is and that is how we must be, too.
Why are they banning Facebook in the first place, are they not upset that they cannot access it anymore due to their government and they wanna be mad a facebook a US based company?? Why are they not boycotting their government??
@Musa
I wont understand, off course I wont.
Let me put it in my perspective, which might enlighten you. Let suppose “You” deny the holocaust.
My first question, did you exist in that place of history.
Second question, were you part of the ongoings then.
Third question, were you a witness to the scene.
And if the there are three noes, then how could you deny, or question something which you were totally non-related to. And your denial or confirming its existence also doesn’t matter, because you were not related to it at all.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Farmville or FaceBook didn’t deny access to anyone. Take it up with your government.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
honestly, how did a site dedicated to a virtual time killer turn into an all out war? wow,lol. this is more entertaining than the game for sure.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Thereis nothing like holocaust ever happened, everything is a drama and fake. Everything isa conspiracy nothing did happened really.
Obviously, your giving the phrase ” Freedom of Speech” a different meaning. I understand you that you don’t live in the USA and that’s okay. But I hope you understand that there are limits to it. If you insult us in anyway, of course our feelings get hurt, but it’s your opinion! Its freedom of speech! And that’s what Facebook is saying! They just can’t take down a Page because of you and millions of other people are complaining about it! We the Americans should be the one complaining and all the other Facebook users in Pakistan. Not even the whole country uses Facebook! And of the millions of Pakistani Facebook users, only like 10% is complaining! The 90% doesn’t either care or doesn’t even know about it! Your government is WAY TOO strict and unfair. If the government just knew why most of the Pakistanis are using Facebook, then they’ll regret banning it!
Some of these attitudes are simply disgusting. So what if Farmville is an American creation? Does that mean that I’m entitled to play it anymore than my friend from east Russia? Games are supposed to be enjoyed by everyone; not by the “privileged”. If you put a label on someone all because of the colour of their skin, gender or country of origin it doesn’t make you any better than the groups you are mocking. Every race, religion and country has it’s good and bad; America included. We are not an exception, we are not “special”, we don’t have a right to call other people by racial slurs.
@Musa – I’d love to be your neighbor. I know you can’t log in yet, but I can maybe send some farmcash or something for the withering… I wouldn’t fret the farm itself so much, though, it’s just a one day plant and yeah, you have some catching up to do, but it’ll be ok. Feel free to email me at mayasdragons at gmail. That’s not my fb email, but I’m sure you can understand why I don’t want to put that up.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Just curious couldn’t anyone who was not offended by this and still wanted to play, just use something like hotspotsheild to make them think you are from the US? I mean you can do it in Canada to watch things from sites like hulu or American network sites.
I missed you comment about me not being a lady for calling you a moron.
Quoting you “u aint white then shut the f up”, you posted this for someone here.
OMG you are a hypocrite and a moron, in the same go. (And that was as good as my language get for someone who judges me, and seems to be incapable of judging himself).
Dear Farmvillefreak Gods: Please remove this thread, it is full of hate and stupidity. This isn´t by any standards an intelectual sites, and opening a thread for people to post their ignorant, scared opinions, only exposes the fact that most of us are not capable of decent spelling or lengthy reasoning.
Wow, the ignorance in these comments are astounding, simply astounding.
First of all, “Draw Mohammad Day” is NOT about disrespecting any religion. It is about standing up for our freedom, as Americans, to express ourselves without fear of being shot and stabbed to death when we leave our houses. Just because we depict the Islamic prophet, does not, in any way, imply the intent of disrespect. There are many, many things that Americans do that may offend someone else in another country. And the same can be said for things other countries do things that offend Americans (female genital mutilation and executions for homosexuals in African countries, oppression of a population in totalitarian countries, etc.) BUT that does not mean that we censor the viewpoints of those who engage in those activities. That is exactly what our Freedom of Speech means.
Now, as far as the misunderstanding from the Pakistani commenters, our values as Americans say that YES, you may disrespect our religious figures, YES, you may insult our families. We may not enjoy reading it or hearing it, but you have that RIGHT to do it. If you don’t like what you see or hear, then move on, go to another page. If it offends you that much, stop playing Farmville and using Facebook, its that simple. We refuse to limit our rights that so many have died for, simply because people somewhere have an issue with what those rights grant us. That’s why its called Freedom.
*****************************************************************
^^^^ What that guy/gal said!!! ^^^^
BTW, it is part of MY religious belief to draw images of ALL religious figures of every religion for the purpose of mediation/prayer focus – that includes Mohammad.
If you wish for me to respect YOUR religious beliefs, then you must respect MINE!
Shouldn’t I be able to practice MY religion without fear of being persecuted or even MURDERED just because someone happens to feel “disrespected” by an element of MY method of worship?
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
How could you guys say this kind of ****?
Sure, it’s freedom of speech, but the reason people are posting pictures is because they hate Muslims. That group is entirely centered around hate. Just read the comments. It’s horrible that an entire country had to be banned from something, even for a short time, because of a facebook group created by some insensitive asshole.
Also– to the user who mentioned “why are they on an American website anyway” UHHH. I doubt the computer you are on was made in America, dumb****.
And to the other user that was asking Pakistanis how they could ever live under such a government, as if our own isn’t completely corrupt. I don’t care if you’re an ex-marine or happen to be ****ing an ex-marine. Pull your heads out of your asses. Hating on people who live in another country just because they live in another country is bull****. Unless you happen to be full blood Native American, you aren’t a “true american’” either.
I think Facebook should take the page down. It’s hateful and unnecessary.
Farmville is the least of everyone’s worries during something like this.
I am a Muslim. And i want to say to all Non-Muslims that we believe in Prophet Muhammad. You don’t believe in him thats all right i don’t care but if don’t believe in him and you do not know if he exists. Why do u want to draw a picture of Him? Just to get fun of it. Why ???
We do not blame anything on your religion we do not care what religion you choose we just wants be friends or if not we do not want to be enemies with anyone.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I thunk thatif facebook removes something just becauseit slanders an islimac profit then they should remove anything and everything that slanders any religion. What makes them so special? The fact that people fear them? It’s bull that people walk in egg shells because of fear, not fear of their god but fear of the followers. Facebook is right America stands on freedom if you don’t like it then don’t use American services.
The American cartoonist whose work inspired the controversial “Everybody Draw Mohammed Page” on Facebook has condemned the effort and issued an apology to Muslims.
”
Said by Moly Norris:
“I did not ‘declare’ May 20 to be “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,” she said, adding that her idea was satire but “was taken seriously, hijacked and made viral”.
“I never started a Facebook page; I never set up any place for people to send drawings to and I never received any drawings,” she said.
“The vitriol this ‘day’ has brought out, of people who only want to draw obscene images, is offensive to Muslims who did nothing to endanger our right to expression in the first place,” she said.
“I apologise to people of Muslim faith and ask that this ‘day’ be called off,” she said.
If u think that 90% of us dont care. You are totally wrong all the Muslims in Pakistan care about it
The Government is not cruel If u see our news you will know that we people want facebook to be banned. It cant just say something about our Prophet
We love Prophet Mohammed more than we love our parents If we draw pictures of your parents would u like it
Great debate here, folks. This obviously is a hot-button topic with people with very strong feelings on both sides of the argument. I’m just glad and pleasantly surprised that the string of posts hasn’t devolved to people simply bitching that Zynga is greedy for not providing unwither rings to all of the Pakistani farmers out there. Most of the people who post on this site like to blame Zynga for evertying from global warming to the Cubs not winning the World Series since 1908.
It is a shame and I feel your pain Pakistani farmers. But as I read some of these ignorant posts on here I am reminded of two things.
1. Thank God I live in America where we have freedom of speech. Every American Farmviller/Facebook user should be thanking our founding fathers for providing free speech in our Constitution (via the Bill of Rights). And that if any of these rights should be taken from us we are no longer Americans.
2. Thank God we have freedom of religion, not from religion. If you want to be Muslim in America, then you can. If you want to be Jewish, you can. If you want to be nothing, you can! And even though America is predominately Christian, or was during our founding, if Facebook had a draw Jesus Day, every Farmer would be safe in realizing they could still access their farms.
We are blessed beyond belief! Keep the banner of freedom and liberty alive and flying high my friends!
wow, reading a lot of these comments from ‘Americans’ makes me feel so embarrassed for our country… we sound so hateful and immature.
Posted on May 20th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
“AAA” you have no right to tell us what we can or can’t draw and you also have no right to tell us whether we can discuss this topic or not. It is also my right to criticize every religious belief (or lack of) if I so choose.
Religions have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to tell ANYONE who chooses not to follow it what they can and cannot do!!!
It is our legal right to choose whether to respect the wishes of the Islamic people or NOT.
You are absolutely within your rights to ask that we respect your religion, but in this country, you have no right to demand it. We are absolutely within our right to ask that you respect our FREEDOM, and in this country, we are within our rights to demand it.
Musa : “The problem is discrimination against us”
And this is not the discimination you do to women??? Shut up, you want respect well respect the women in your country, they are not livestock or slaves for men, give them freedom and you will solve many problems with everybody in the world, moron!! Im not islamophobe, Im pro-women!!
Wow. Um… how did a request for someone to be able to access their farm turn into a debate about whether or not it you go to jail for “denying holocaust”? It is not a crime to deny a historical event, it is just ignorant. BTW– America did NOT execute the holocaust or any of the events leading up to it. Germany did.
**Laura, I am with you. It is so immature and sad that these people have obviously dedicated their whole day to this drivel. On a lighter note… since we can’t seem to stay on topic anyway… I helped deliver three kittens today.
**Musa, I understand the need to farm, and am sorry you can’t. I do not advocate the choices your government makes to imprison its citizens, and I am on the fence about whether or not this page should have been banned. I have not seen it personally. Nothing you can do about it, though except ride it out. May 31st is coming quickly, and hopefully it will mean you can go back to your addiction.
**Leatha and Chris Brown, grow up. Use your spell check. Those little red squiggly lines?? Those tell you that you spelled something wrong. You are both immature and senseless. Don’t you have anything better to do than spend your whole day here attacking people you don’t know?? I do. Gonna go farm.
Y’all have a nice day now.
I think that they’re going a little to far for blocking Facebook, but is it so much fun making fun of something that is holy to people?? Why do people waste their time by drawing Muhammed if other people are against it? Stupid people with no such thing as a life.
Question for those who support this…
After reading all the comments, I am just curious.
You are offended, I understand.
Why would you protest by asking your Leaders to ban a website from everyone in your county? Why wouldn’t you simply make a personal choice to not visit a website? I guess I just do not understand why people (including some of my fellow Americans) turn to leaders to ban things, make rules, laws etc…
There are many things in my life that I do not like, believe in, or find offensive. I simply avoid them
Could be a race, religion, store, food, website, fb group, game, book, museum, well anything.
Just because I do not like something, I do NOT impose my beliefs on others. Others may enjoy those things and I do not wish to take someone elses enjoyment away from them…nor mine taken from me. I do not use my money, time or energy on things I personally find offensive.
Hello everyone,
I see that there is a heated discussion regarding this post and topic. It was our original intention to NOT limit freedom of speech on this post and let the FVF community share their opinions on the subject.
Although everyone is entitled to their own opinions, please remember that there are FarmVille Freaks from all over the world representative of many races, religions and beliefs. We are all here because we like playing FarmVille. The focus of this post was the limitations that Pakistan is putting on FarmVille players that live in Pakistan who do not have access to FaceBook and their farms. Sadly, because of some user comments it has turned into a name-calling display of immaturity, instead of helpful and respectful opinions.
Due to several complaints, we are closing the discussion on this post because while we respect your right to freedom of speech we cannot support attacking individuals.
Thank you to everyone who responded in a thoughtful reply.
